Bouchard is all about offense and lacks defense. Nurse is being paid too much for what he delivers. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, despite being the first overall pick, seems more like a second-line player, or even third-line on most competitive teams. This team is not well put together and doesn't stand a chance against the Canucks.

I think overreaction. I am a neutral observer and until yesterday, Oilers were in control. They would have more shots or at least lead most of the time. looked in control. And then, game 5, Van did look better and controlled the entire game. Van played the best game in this series in game 5. So will see how it goes game 6. If Oilers pull it off at home it is 3-3 and anything can happen in game 7.

@@cobrachannel100Agreed. They said the Vancouver locker room was dragged down by illness at the start of the series, and the Oilers mainly controlled play but bad goaltending cost them. Now Vancouver seems like they’ve got that bug out of the room and took over game 5, but if you listen to the Oiler interviews it’s clear they are now all sick. Edmonton needs to really dig down deep tonight, sick or not or else they are going home.

But what options do they have if nobody else is able to get it going? The reason McD and Draisaitl have been overplayed is because when they're not on the ice, the Oilers don't generate much offence at all agains the Canucks. So you've got a choice: You can play all 4 lines, not tire out your big guns but they potentially get shut down and you've got nobody else picking up the slack or you play them all the time and they create major headaches for the Canucks up and down the lineup. Yes, if you do the latter, maybe you get past this round. But then Connor and Leon potentially are too banged up or don't have any gas left for the WCF. It's a tough situation and the Canucks have made it tough for them. That's what playoff hockey is. It's a chess match and both having the personnel to get you there and knowing how to manage everyone's ice time. Maybe the Oilers just aren't deep enough as a team to get there, which was one of the criticisms of the Canucks in recent years. You can usually get through a round with a top heavy team. But depth is everything in the playoffs. Corey Perry is getting older and isn't the same guy he once was, but he's been completely invisible in this series. If Bouchard and/or Nurse have a bad game or get exposed defensively, they could be in big trouble. The Oilers rely heavily on their PP and if the Canucks prove they have their PK figured out in Game 6, it's over. The Oilers haven't generated much 5 on 5. A lot of that is the Canucks depth and ability to shut things down.

The elephant in the room is special teams. The Canucks made adjustments to the their penalty kill that were really noticeable in game 5. The Oilers were deadly to start the series and won games primarily by cashing in on the PP - but went 0 for 6 in game 5!! If they don’t figure out how to make some new adjustments and make that power-play count, they are in real trouble.

Pickard plays period. How many soft goals has he given up? Can't think of one. McDavid just being shut down. Not many good looks at the net. Just that breakaway where he scored. Every year Oilers are short on big players who can crash and bang. Ken Holland has consistently failed to bring the physical aspect of this hockey club up to par. Oilers are missing at least three players who can really hit back against the opposition. All the best clubs in the states know how to play heavy, which further helps the best players. Vancouver is a physical team. Why do we have to watch the oilers fail year after year and not recruit some heavy muscle?
