Since Dallas passed, I have seen the band with Kurt Vile at the Winnipeg Folk Fest, and then a few weeks ago at a club here in Winnipeg. It is very sad to not have Dallas with us, but I will support the Sadies anywhere and any time in the future. They still kick ass.

That hurt. The Sadies are legends. Huge loss to the music world.

So he died of a sudden illness after a recently discovered coronary illness. Sadly this is becoming more and more common. R.I.P. Dallas.

going to miss this band forever. Or at least until I die. I was fortunate to see these boys play many many times, but one of my favourite memories is one of the last times I saw them play. They played a free show at the Alberta Legislature one perfect afternoon and I couldn't believe my good luck. I rode my bicycle down and found a nice spot at the back under some bushes and got to hear my favourite band play lazing on my back under a clear blue sky. Thanks for all the music Dallas, we all will miss you very much.

They could play anything! I once saw them on a day when one of the Ramones died, and they played a magnificent medley of Ramones songs as a tribute. A truly great live band.

I had the privilege of seeing the Sadies here in Los Angeles, around 5 years ago and always hoped for their return. Amazing band, and yes Dallas is irreplaceable. Accidently found out about this band through Pandora while listening to some cool surf music and rockabilly and immediately started ordering majority of their albums on cd and vinyl. I rarely do that with a band. Proud to be a fan of them.

Good by name, good in real life. I first saw them around 20 years or so ago at the Lakeside Lounge on Avenue B in New York, as backing band for Andre Williams. I got talking to them briefly, and they were seriously nice guys. A year or more later, I found myself booked to DJ their show at the 100 Club in London (England), and they remembered me. At a later date here I was the DJ again and Dallas gave me a shout out, a thank you, on the mic in the middle of the show. Great band, always good to see them, and a heck of a nice bunch of guys too. All of them.

I've seen hundreds of live bands, including many of the"greats", the Sadies, although less feted, were better than them all. Rest in peace Dallas, you were one of the best.

Love The Sadies! Discovered them from 'Favorite Colors from 2003-2004 ? And Stories often Told" from a couple of years before. I loved it and related to the music. instantly, and yes, the fantastic guitar work and arrangements drew me in, right away ! Nice Memorial Mazzy, for a very important band that most don't know about..

I've been a huge fan of these guys, and almost everything in the orbit of Rick White since I was a teenager. I feel blessed to have seen them so many times. It was incredible to see them in a small club. One of the best live bands ever. Glad we have the records, and the memories. I've lost so many people in the past few years personally and extended, it's been rough. Thanks for the tribute. Hold on hold on

Great videos and definitely one of the great live bands. When they got together to play each other's guitar my mind was blown. "I'll be listening to "Story's Often Told" on repeat. RIP

There is an amazing album of classic country music covers by John Doe and the Sadies called “Country Club” that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in that genre. A vinyl copy has eluded me to date (price-wise and/or geographically), but I stream it at work all the time! Thanks for the post Mazzy. Sad news for sure.

John Doe and Exene Cervenka were the opening band for Garbage and Blondie back in 2018. I ran into John Doe in an elevator at the venue and told him how amazing the Country Club album is. He seemed genuinely surprised to have someone tell him that. He called the Sadies some the best musicians he'd ever had the pleasure to work with. I believe him.

Thank you for posting this. I've been a huge fan of The Sadies since 2007 when I discovered them through a friend. I've had the pleasure and honour of seeing them more times than I can count. Being Canadian and livng just east of Toronto, my opportunies to catch them live happened frequently and I made the most of every opportunity. The news of Dallas' passing shook me to my core,,, it's like losing family.

The Sadies were/are a second-generation band. The Good Brothers were an Ontario folk-rock institution for many years. I saw them all together in a small auditorium as part of the Stewart Park Festival in Perth. I was mightily impressed with their twangabilly sound.

Certainly two of the best gigs I've seen were the two times I saw The Sadies play. They played like a force of nature. Dallas on guitar reminded me at times of Clarence White. He approached playing in the same way, like a guitar in bluegrass. Sad day.

It is awfully sad news Hedley. I loved watching the Sadies. Best gigs ive ever seen. I was hoping to take my son to watch them this year. I feel so much for the band and their families.

Both Clarence and later Dallas played a B-Bender loaded Telecaster, where they could bend the bb string up a full step pulling on the strap. And both were very gifted!

He was quite young. I've seen them a couple times, including opening for Blue Rodeo, they often supported bigger acts. But they were at their best headlining some small low ceiling club. I think I saw them the day Dennis Hopper died and they played a Byrds song, I was trying to think which one, now I think it was "Wasn't born to follow" but their signature bit and another Seattle band also did it was fretting each other's guitar, I think covers are almost what they were known for live, "Freeborn Man" being another highpoint of that same set.

Thankyou for this tribute piece! A tremendous and unique pressence are Dallas and Travis! Twin towers of western surf rockabilly power! Saw them numerous times in small clubs over the years. Such a loss. Thoughts and condolences to everyone 🙏😢

Great video Mazzy. I had the privilege of knowing Dallas in the early 90s. He worked at Songbird Music on Queen West in Toronto. He played in a great band The Satanatras. Great band. Great name. I remember he would always play that riff to Caught In A Dream from Love It To Death at the Satanatras shows. Much to the displeasure of the other guitar player Jeff. Just a funny thing I remember. Anyway he sold me a 78 Les Paul Custom(long gone now). My first “good” guitar. I think I paid under 900 Canadian at the time of you can even imagine. The world is a little bit worse off than it was a day or 2 ago. Dallas is going UP. Of that you can be sure.

Saw the Sadies many time here in Toronto , even saw them with the Good Family band at the Horseshoe Tavern and also accompanying Neko Case . Great musicians .

Im ashamed to say I have never heard of the Sadies. Thanks Mazzy, for introducing them to me, and I am now a fan. Great tribute to them, and a great video as usual.

Check out In Concert: Volume One. It’s like the Last Waltz with friends and collaborators from throughout their career joining the band. The vinyl is long OOP and goes for big money now.

Sad sad news. Thank for for this video, Mazzy. The concert footage is wonderful. I was lucky to see The Sadies perform a few times in Winnipeg. Loved their collaborations with Gord Donnie from The Tragically Hip. Will always miss both Dallas and Gordie!

Lucky to have seen them perform live many times the most memorable was Halloween 🎃 2013 at the Great American Music Hall in SF when after the first set of their material they did Alice Coopers Love it to Death in its entirety. I don’t use this descriptive often but it truly was epic.

Fantastic! The cat on the Gretsch when you started shooting from stage left sounded fabulous. Love it.

Such an amazing band... although certainly not the same without Dallas, without that Telecaster dueling with the Gretsch, and without that baritone vocal... but I hope the band carries on. Maybe they could convince John Doe / Neko Case / Kurt Vile to throw a tour together - sort of a celebration of what they have done. I'd also love another John Doe and the Sadies collaboration (although JD has his own solo stuff on the way already)
