Recess was an absolute gem, and is probably one of the best-aged kids shows on TV, with a wide cast of both kids and adults that, between them, show the spectrum of childlike fun and mischief contrasted with mutual respect and self-discipline. In a world that was full of "adults suck" shows, this was the one that showed me that even a lot of the stricter adults still had another side to them. God rest your soul Dabney.

But they were all 100% right, and so was Principal Prickly. Childhood is something you cannot appreciate until it's gone. It's a cruel irony of life that spares no one.

It hits harder as an adult. Because he’s right, those memories are all we’ve really got left as kids. Maybe some comics or games or other toys, but it’s just really driving home now that those halcyon days are gone for most of us. And it hurts. But what can do other than remember the good times and smile? That’s life, always changing us in one way or another. Just, don’t forget, yeah?

RIP Mr dabney coleman aka principal prickly, I may not have known you in anything else you've been in, but thank you for voice acting the principal to one of my favorite cartoons of my childhood. Also the ending song is a perfect fit.

This video is how I learned the news. Thank you. It's just a shame you didn't let it run further, with Pete smiling and staring out proudly.

Prickly really was something else. I didn't hate him as a character, but I almost always took TJ's side in their little feud. But then, when TJ accused him of not caring about summer vacation and he stood up, I just knew he was gonna give an impactful speech. And now, in my late twenties, I can say that I relate to him more than ever. I miss being a kid. I really do.

This man was a gift and his portrayal of Principal Peter Prickly was genuinely something magical. Whether matching wits with T.J. at school or literally saving summer from a megalomaniacal rival, Principal Prickly was the best. I hope Mr. Dabney Coleman led a good life because, for his portrayal of Principal Prickly alone, he deserved it.

I do remember watching Recess growing up. The voice actor behind Principal Prickly though, this was the only role I will associate him with. Never watched anything he did else. It was unfortunate he is this 2024 no longer with us. RIP fellow Disney legend.
