Rings of Power MUST Learns This From Failure

Ойын-сауық

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was Amazon Prime Videos' most expensive streaming TV series ever. But as Season 1 reached its finale, Season 2's marketing is ramping up. We have numerous cast interviews from Disa and the directors alongside other actors doubling down on the first series.
Rather than going back to Rings of Power season 1 and analysing the mistakes they made before it's release. Instead, everything stays very close to Rings of Powers' first attempt. And that isn't good for J.R.R. Tolkiens' Lord of the Rings IP.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is back and they've learnt nothing. Despite season 2 marketing starting with new cast interviews, we're still dropping the same talking points that made only 37% finish Rings of Power Season 1. Now Amazon could have learnt from past mistakes and changed it for this new marketing push. But do they even know why there are problems in the fist place? Now I am sorry about the issues with the video. The camera was on the wrong focus setting during recording for some of this, I tried to re-record but ran out of time if I still want to do Gotham Knights tomorrow. The camera issues also introduced mic popping, don't worry guys, working on a solution ASAP if you can bear with me :D Do you think Rings of Power will learn from their marketing mistakes, or is Season 2 doomed for another 37% (or less) completion rate? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

The whole idea of "I want to see myself represented" is so narcissistic to me. I LOVE Korean Dramas (basically all we watch anymore) & I'm not complaining or upset that I as a white person from the US am not represented! I don't care! If they are GOOD STORIES and telling about the human experience then what does it matter if I "see myself" there? As a kid I loved Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Cosby Show, Family Matters, and while my skin color might not have been represented in the shows, the stories and emotions were universal. They ARE universal. Like Music is universal. Love, compassion, good vs evil, it's already universal and can be felt, understood and experienced by everyone.

ah man i love korean horror and sci-fi movies/series. They are so well done. And even as a european white man i dont look anything like the Korean actors, i could still identify with some characters with their struggles and morality issues they face in their shows. Example: A father sacrefising himself to save his son does not need to look like me for me to be able to identify myself with him and feel for him and understand him (wont spoil the movie where this is the case). And this while not watching the dubbed, but the original subbed version of Korean movies/shows. It is all about good writing and not forcing an issue to mold every character to fit a part of the audiance. A character beeing gay just for the fact he is gay and has no other dimension to their character will not make good story telling. Just like race or the dipiction of a strong independed woman (which is often just "toxic" masculinity projected on a woman if you ask me).

If the focus is on poor writing and poor acting, then the backlash would be valid.

@@re11ik96 *"are you against black actors being casted in this show or against poor acting and shit scripts?"* We are against miscasting for diversity's sake, poor acting and shit scripts. I wouldn't have minded black actors for some roles of Haradrim. But I mind black elves and dwarfs just as much as I would mind a Blade-reboot with a white Blade. Blade is black. LOTR-elves are white. And black dwarfs just make no sense to begin with. What we dislike is the _unnecessary changes_ to a character for no benefit to the story being told. Aragorn was changed as well, Book-Aragorn has a different feel to him than Movie-Aragorn. But it works and makes the movie great. There's no narrative reason to make Aragorn black (WOTC), introduce black elves and dwarfs (ROP), cast Ariel and Batgirl as black or make Blade white. The characters are established in a specific way, and deviating from that way will _always_ get you backlash (there was backlash for the differences between Book- and Movie-Aragorn, for example). But if said deviation is for no reason but politics being included in escapism, the backlash will be both justified and quite loud.

To be honest three movies weren't really enough to fully adapt The Lord of the Rings.

To me "socialist" tells me about a person's economic thinking and not much else. "Progressive" lets me know how they think about things like race and gender. It's possible for someone to be socialist but not progressive or progressive but not socialist. As a progressive myself I don't think there's anything about being a progressive that inherently prevents good storytelling (for the record the opposite is true too; conservatives can tell good stories). The problem with the modern entertainment industry is that they put ideology above everything else. It's almost impossible for good stories to result from that way of doing things. Like I said, I'm a progressive but I can't stand a lot of "woke" movies, TV shows, comics, etc. because when I want to be entertained I prefer _actual_ entertainment over having my own beliefs parroted back to me. The way Hollywood is doing things is ridiculously stupid because they're driving fans with all sorts of world views away.

Aulë created 7 father's of Rock and gave them minor amounts of life and fredom, later being given full status and freedom from Illuvetar. Nothing says the type of rock they were made from couldn't affect their skin colour. Disa skin wasn't one of the problems I had with her portrayal. But her lack of facial hair and the fact that she was of Durinsfolk whereas she could have been from a different race of dwarves, made of a different type of stone. Also why were there 2 King Durins at the same time, where it is very clear Durins Line is based upon rebirth of the same leader and passed down consciousness and memories. It is becoming a trend in Woke Hollywood: sympathetic villians that makes the heroes look bad. Look at Peter Pan. Lore-wise, Sauron had his chance for redemption after the War of Wrath and he decided not to because it would entitle some sacrifice on his part.

Problem is, _Sauron was never human._ I know next to nothing about LotR deep lore, and even I know that he is functionally a god that served an even greater evil, Melkor, in a previous age. By the time of the actual LotR trilogy, he is functionally *_evil incarnate._* Only a narcissistic retard/Cluster-B would look at that and think "I can fix him." _You can try..._ just give me a moment to pull up a chair and make some popcorn first.

You know, I've been a nerd girl all my life and I have never disliked a story because I "couldn't see myself" in it. I read my first Sherlock Holmes at 8. It was a story about Victorian men, so I just wrote myself a character in my head and added myself in when I read them. When I read The Secret Garden, I wasn't Mary, I was a separate character who was with Mary and Dicken. Authors don't write every person into their stories and if you cannot connect with a story because you aren't in it, you are going to miss out on so many interesting worlds. Especially if you take into account stories like 101 Dalmations that don't really have humans. Was that only written for dogs? My ability to self insert into pretty much anywhere has allowed me to live so many other lives and I just cannot see leaving myself out because the author wasn't thinking of me when he wrote it.

Also, in response to Disa (I have no interest in learning her name), about how black people have been told they have no place on screen in a fantasy world: Look at the new D&D movie. Firstly, for what it was, it was amazing, and I've rewatched it multiple times and my whole family enjoys it. Secondly, its clear WOTC tried to join the 'black elves' bit because I'd guess that nearly half of the Elves you see in the movie are black - or at least theres a black elf in nearly every shot of the Enclave. Lets not forget that Simon, the Half-Elf, is also black. But see, despite the (imo) blatant attempt to be inclusive, I couldn't care less in this instant. Why? Because its D&D... Its not out there for a DM to decide on the skin tone of elves, or for a player who's black to wanna make a black half-elf. Its an adaptive fantasy world, sure with its own form of racism, but thats what makes it real. But the point is that there were black Elves in the movie and I didn't care... not enough to protest it. LOTR will always be my definitive source for Elves though... plus I make my D&D Elves and Half Elves the way I see fit (Female half Elf, fair skin, red hair and green eyes... Female Elf, pale skin, golden hair and blue eyes... Female Elf, pale skin, chocolate brown hair and steel grey eyes)

To be fare with the black elf , Elf were supposed to be pale , NOT not just white-people skin tone (green should be in there palet as well) . Elfen blood was never red . unlike Dwarf whose blood is red, see the problem here is not that he a black-elf , he a human-elf so it doesn't work :)

It disgusts me that these cultural vandals think so little about a representation of British myths and lore like this. I really wish there had been more people on the set who actually liked and knew about Tolkien's work. Maybe if that had been the case, we might've gotten a story told from the perspective of the people of the south lands.

1:53 “Every villain’s a hero in his own story, right?” True, but knowing a villain’s backstory doesn’t always make them compelling. We don’t know the Joker’s backstory and he’s a compelling character because his actions mark him a wildcard. Inversely, we know Mr. Freeze’s backstory and by knowing it we consider him to be compelling because we understand the motivations behind his actions; a deep seated desire to save/avenge his wife. In short, it can go both ways. Just depends on the quality of the writing.

Agree I'm not against giving villains a relatable backstory. But I guess in LOTR Lore it makes less sence as there is a clear distinction between good and evil. Still if the show showed at least some respect for the orginal texts and Tolkien as a man they could have made it work.

The best part of that superfan video...is that one of the people in that video admitted to not even watching the show. Unless Amazon performs an exterminatus on the showrunners, producers, directors, and writers of that show...season two will only be worse and more spiteful.

It's kind of sad the mindset these people have where they HAVE to see themselves otherwise it's imperfect. I'm not white, but I grew up watching LoTR Extended Editions almost every day. They can't respect the author's vision and influences from his own heritage and history.
