This aired only 6 months after Lennon was murdered. Ringo was always pretty reserved and reticent, but just the same I sense the trauma hasn't ebbed enough yet. He's not quite himself - unnatural, awkward pauses - strained, forced good cheer. Carson, the consummate pro, with that light disarming touch, keeps things moving along.

If you notice his chair is elevated and has a step. This is the "guest" chair for the person Johnny is currently interviewing so he can see eye to eye. I believe Ringo is 5'9". That's not really short as the average man is supposidly 5'10".

When the beetles arrived in America in February of 1964, some were saying they liked Paul or George or John. I had no idea who they were but I liked Ringo. I was five years old. I think Ringo was the favorite of the kinder crowd while the older kids prefered the other blokes.

This popped up - they refer to Wimbledon and Queen Elizabeth silver jubilee (25 years on throne). Just about to have diamond jubilee. 70 years - not just all my life (age 67) but my parents watched the coronation parade from stand in The Strand a few days before they got married. Dad got the tickets, he had just arrived from Nigeria. Mum had come to England a few weeks before to arrange the wedding with her parents. They met up outside a pub in Northumberland Avenue. Mum always cherished that moment. Never had much interest in royal family and neither did they except as it affected their work

Was in LA visiting a friend who working for NBC. We got VIP tickets to The Tonight Show. The show is tapped earlier in the day then broadcast at night. We were waiting in the "VIP" line and my wife heard a bloke with an English accent behind her. She turned around and it was Ringo Starr. This man could not of been nicer. He was the guest band that night and he came to make sure his friends got their passes. Surprised to see how short Ringo is. Average height for me and I was a good head taller.
