Ive been watching you with cameras, electronics and dooorbells the last couple years. I appreciate how thorough you are at testing and showing people your data. I agree, the Doorbell Pro is still a worthy investment. I used the Doorbell 1 until a few months ago. Never had an issue. Ever. It worked fine, but I love that they have a 5GHz channel and 1080P with Alexa. Bonuses. Keep up the great channel. Love your show!

I got one last month and am very happy so far. The biggest selling point was the short cooldown period. The video is crisp and night vision is very impressive too.

Ring Pro is the best one so far for me.. it detects motion over 80 feet away from my front door which is great because I like to get notified when the mailman passes by lol. I live on 1 acre lot so the distance to the mailbox is pretty far away. The detection is instant too.

I'm glad you showed a good video of your front door and doorbell arrangement. I've been thinking that your doorbell was at a right angle to your door, but I can see that its actually at a 45 degree angle. Good to know.

I will say that Ring's outdoor pro camera (think that is the name now) does the best for audio out of any that I have heard. This is the camera of theirs that is also POE capable. It has a super wide field of view, which is both a blessing and a curse. It can cover nearly all the backyard, but just can't give you all that much detail with the huge field of view.

LifeHackster, I couldn't agree with you more. I've been impatiently waiting for a new Ring Pro doorbell camera to come out. A lot of copycat cameras have come out over the years and some individual features have surpassed the Ring Pro but none have surpassed it overall, but the competition is getting closer. My Ring Pro has have some intermittent issues but I didn't want to waste time getting a replacement from Ring, I would rather have a new updated camera. Hopefully Ring is coming out with something soon. Excellent video.

Intermitting issue as in cuts out chunks of recording? Mine will show the mail person delivering the mail, next frame their in the neighbors yard. 20' away. This is always summer, winter, spring & fall.

@@marykeele2723 My problems occur primarily during the summer months. My front porch gets direct sunlight and it can get to around 100 degrees, the camera nor the bell pushbutton works until later at night when it cools off sometimes. The doorbell is supposed to be rated up to 110 degrees but mine starts having problems at lower temps. Other times I've literally been 1-6ft in front of the camera and it didn't sense my motion. My spotlight camera that is about 20ft off the ground and about 15ft from my front porch senses my motion every time. Fortunately I have overlap on my cameras in critical areas around my home.

I bought the eufy and super happy. I've had the ring doorbell for 4 years and it's been good to me but had enough of paying £3.00 a month. Eufy does all ring can without the £3.00 a month subscription.

I wanted to replace my ring doorbell v2. I tried the doorbell 3 plus but didn't like the fact that I have to hardwired and use the battery at the same time jus this the 3 secs preroll. So I decided to get this certified doorbell pro. Since I done the install of a few ring doorbells I tjoght this be fast. I'm handy with wires as I did replaced my old transformer with the 16v one as recommended. That was tricky but not too bad. I added the power kit to my mechanical chime, went through the install step and somehow the blue lights keeps blinking. OK. Called ring support and was told the pro actually have an internal capacitor (battery) that needed a few hours to charge up. OK. after a few hours the spinning white light i needed finally came on, great. Excited. Start the install and it stuck at the join ring network. Somehow that never came on. Call support again. The new guy was saying not enough power. I told him I got the new transformer installed already. He said , skip my old chime and installed the chime wire directly to the power kit. See pictures. I did that. we waited. And install again. Did not work on my phone app. He said try to do on another device like iPad. I did that. Same issue. He told me nothing he can do now. He will put in level 3 support and have them call me back. 4 hours later, no one call. So I decided to Uninstaller the pro and put back my trusty old Ring doorbell v2. Ready to return this garbage. Maybe when pro v2 comes out, I'll try it again.

Agreed. I've gone from the original ring doorbell to the doorbell 2 and then to the pro which i have had for a few years. The features you mentioned are badly needed in my opinion.

I have one of those Litom solar lights..you do have to have another porch light above (60 watt on mine) that is constantly on or on a timer though for the ring pros not to trigger it’s night vision.

I was happy at first but less so now a year or so later. It seems like lately I can't see anything in a timely manner. I get the alert immediately, but when I click on the alert, it switches to live view which takes about five seconds to start up. If I go to history to see what triggered the alert, I have to wait almost two minutes for "video is being processed" before I can watch the video associated with the alert. I have an excellent wifi connection at the doorbell and the highest offered speed for internet, around 35gbs upload speed. I have a eufy pan and tilt, and there is effectively 0 delay, maybe 2-3 seconds before I can watch the video of the alerted event versus 90-120 seconds with Ring.

This is why the new rich notifications (you have to turn it on in the settings) will fill the gap...you will get a snapshot of the motion event without opening the app..and if it is not that important, then you can just let the camera finish recording and uploading and check the footage a few minutes later.

Got the ring doorbell pro with free echo show 5 from bestbuy black friday deal today. I was messing with it and found out if I set my echo show on live view as a live security monitor, motion detection and even the door bell would not work. I called support center and was confirmed it is intended. Will you share your thoughts?

There is only one model. If you are referring to the "motion at your front door" notification, the doorbell isn't doing that, it is the phone is his pocket. If your phone doesn't do that, it is simply about turning on the notifications in your phone app.

I own a Ring doorbell but would like to change to an Arlo wireless essential video doorbell. You have pre-set replies on that one, and also it calls your phone if the button is pressed. Ring does not do any of that... Ring launched their first doorbell nearly 4 years ago, and they still have not come up with products having such features. To me, Ring has been losing momentum, and competitors will very soon leave it behind, in my opinion. Arlo in particular is great, if I judge by the cameras I have. Hopefully their doorbell is as reliable as their cameras.

LifeHackster I used the Arlo for about 6 months and switched it for the ring pro. My biggest reason was the delay in notification was about 5 seconds from when doorbell was rung. Also the ability to speak with whoever was at your door is rendered useless due to another 7 second delay. I loved the video quality on the Arlo compared to the ring, but video quality doesn’t make up for the major delays I had.

I just want a new updated nest with a better sensor possibly 4k with local record option. Hey we can dream right :D

Nest Hello and overall nest products are worse than Ring in updates. They haven’t released any new products in the last 2-3 years.

I have five of them; they are great. Hope to see a review of Energizer Connect Doorbell model EOD1-2003-SIL which works with Alexa and google assistant. It sell at Walmart for 84 $. I have two of the older model EOD1-2002-SIL which is Not working with Alexa or google assistant. Thank you.

They had better fix the two main defects with the new model. The plastic button cracks over time and the internal battery wears out in roughly two years. You can only recharge it using the hidden USB port to restart it. At least Ring send out a new doorbell if you have either problem.

The Ring app connection services have been down all day today... I have called support and they confirmed that their service is dead. So, when my RingPro lost wifi I can't fix it... because I can't login to the Ring App on my phone. So, tomorrow I'll get a Eufy 2K doorbell and dump Ring. I'm glad that I didn't go all-in with Ring floodlight cams, etc.

I agree with you. I have ring door bell 2 and a spot light for two years or more and still working as a charm. I own another camera from a well known company but there notifications are so delayed. So the video notifications to echo only available with pro ?

Do you get screws for drilling into upvc doors and door frame with the ring doorbells?

We had our first package theft in four years and basically three out of three ring devices failed to detect motion. The reason I know is because I have a backup system from another brand. I called Ring Support telling them basically the system failed. She checked everything, Wi-Fi speed, zones, etc after putting me on hold, probably talking to a supervisor on how to respond, she said that it was because of cool down and frequency settings. The last motion was 8 minutes before and she knew it. I pay $30 for the Ring Plus and am 100% disappointed in their response. If you see this review on other videos, then it’s because I’m THAT DISAPPOINTED after spending nearly $1k in product and fees. Unfortunately, I have no idea which system is best at person detection, but I know it’s not Ring.

I'm going to assume you have or had their battery powered cameras if you mention cool down and frequency. Cool down in recording is the issue with ANY battery powered system not just Ring's. I always prefer plugged in or wired and as to Ring, like with this wired doorbell, it will continually record in 60 second increments (or however long you set it in the settings) and as long as the motion persists, it will record again..so there is basically no cool down... @@dhsusf but it only happens with battery doorbells not all doorbells so if you had a plug in or wired doorbell you wouldn't have this problem so don't blame ring

On my wish list is better audio to complement yours.

Have you ever reviewed the Skybell doorbell? I haven't been able to find one from you. I' have two Skybells and they appear to out shine others I have seen reviewed. The problem is I get false motion detection and I have to reset it. Plus, the Skybell Trim Fit is the only one that will fit in the narrow space we have. Thank you!

Eufy doesn’t need subscription and it will work on both Google and Amazon devices.

Not with the Ring Pro. It has a 3 second pre-recording. It records 3 seconds before motion has been detected.

Eufy has all of those features except the recording of both sides of conversation. Plus they have the features of your wishlist!!

Actually the battery is a bit better because of HDR but it is the functionality like 3 second pre-recording and customizable motion zones that makes the Pro better.

Same here, best buy is having a sale on ring doorbells plus $10 extra for an echo show 5 if you buy them together.

I agree that the Ring doorbell audio is terrible - basically worthless because the visitor cannot understand anything. The Ring spotlight cam audio is much better. The problem with the spotlight cam is that it is far too sensitive even on minimum setting. If I turn the lights on with the motion detection they turn on and off constantly. Squirrels and flying bugs trigger the camera and recording.

@@LifeHackster It is the ac wired floodlight version with the two aim-able lights. I have tried both human only and manual sensitivity set to minimum. A cat will set it off about 8' away and once a squirrel set it off at about 15'. I have it set with the lights on the built in on-off timer. If I try to set it to have the lights come on when the motion sensor trips, the lights will turn on and off every 3 or 4 minutes but nothing moving shows up on the video recording.

What power is used? Ring is telling me the plug in works but it’s on 12VA. Does 12VA really do it? I thought it was a 30VA minimum. I don’t want to damage my brand new pro. Anyone come across this?

still prefer local storage and 30 FPS videos. having smoother video allows better capture on freezing the frame to see the person. There is no way ring ever allows local storage or increase bitrate, FPS, quality of videos. They can release a new "4K" version and sure the RESOLUTION will be 4K but the quality will still be 720P with so much pixelization and compression-- a tactic MANY do just so they can advertise "1080P" and in other cases 2K and 4K. the resolution will be those sizes so its not false advertising but the actual quality is crap. Ring's business model is to sell cloud storage and monthly/annual subscriptions. If they ever did local storage it would eliminate that. That is why they never will. It is also why the POE version of their products has no improvement in video quality because they arent made for better bandwith but purely for better connectivity to the internet. There is still a mix bag of issues with Ring due to network setups from one house to another so ring will be hesitate to release higher quality which will require more bandwith when many are still having issues just getting good connection at the door. Ring will always have a market because there are many consumers who just dont care and want simple and biggest brand recognition. Ring has achieved that. But for power users and those who care about real quality, control, etc Ring is inferior to many.

After watching this I went back to your review of latest Eufy doorbell and it beats ring on all except the 2 way audio and it's half the price . You claim 4 points with Alexa none of Google like Eufy now has but aren't we getting away from the fact it's a doorbell why do you want to sit in house watching video feed through Alexa , 2 additional points secure data and no monthly fees that ring can't offer

The best thing about full integration with echo show is that all other people inside your house are able to view and answer the doorbell without having an account with Ring or have their phones with them. You are getting away from the fact that doorbells are supposed to work that way...people inside the house needs to know too.,not just you with your phone or you might be thousand of miles away.

I brought the ring 3 plus to replace 2 and found it has the same delay to live stream and the hardwire is not charging like it did to keep my ring 2 to stay 100%. I know, replace the transformer etc. I'm not even sure why you get a battery one and hardwired it to be honest. Maybe backup battery on an outage? But your router and no internet so no recording to cloud anyway, no? I figure if I do that why not just get Ring pro? The dilemma is since Ring pro is 3 years old, should I just keep my Ring 2 till the pro v. 2 comes? I mean, 3 years, it might be a new version for pro coming anyway, no?

Good technology, but they keep on nickeling and diming you. Stay far away from Ring, unless you have $$$ to shell out. They wanted me to pay $100 for 2 cameras per year. Hahahaha!

All good tech reviewers on KZread don't say "Alexa" because we all have one in the background listening. He says Alex A so we know what he is talking about without saying it.

@@EnigmaV8 it’s true. Lifehackster mentioned his reason for saying Alex A in prior videos. But you clearly haven’t seen those videos. I do think he should mention it in all his videos to avoid confusing people such as yourself.
