    I haven't tested them hands-on, only visited at CES. In theory, it looks like a great concept. Personally, I like the idea of Toucan better than outfitting lights with something brand new. If I were to try Kuna, I would try Toucan.

    it's Rose Thanks Roses. I am looking at getting the Ring Spotlight Camera, should I get the Solar Panel or an extra battery or the Stick Up Camera?

  • @safehomeorg3579

    @safehomeorg3579

    Yes. :) You should get one or the other. I only tested the Solar Panel. The advantage of the Solar Panel being that it will keep the battery charged. The disadvantage being that it's not as clean looking as a battery powered camera. The dual batteries will give you that cleaner look, but they will eventually have to be charged. If you can deal with the way the Solar Panel looks, it's a simpler solution.

    Well done, Rose (like always). I'm not a fan of Ring battery anymore. They have come up with many cool stuff, but recharging the battery is a constant pain in the rear. I compare Ring to Blink XT whereas Blink XT lasts 2 years battery before you replace it. I'm really looking for convenience and less hassle. Blink XT fits my need. I have a lot of issues with Ring recharging battery which is a struggle for me. The only device that I like the most is the Ring doorbell, but not the camera (their biggest disadvantage and weakness in technology).

    Love your reviews. Looks like a nice upgrade to the Stick Up Cams although I’m curious if they’ve improved the start-up delay to the recording of motion events. The Stick Cams are practically useless in that sense as they end up capturing mostly the backs of,people on their round trip away from my home. So I’m tolerant the 2 sticks I have till they croak. Love Nest but wish they did event-based recording instead of constant recording at least as an optional tier.

  • @safehomeorg3579

    @safehomeorg3579

    6 жыл бұрын

    I haven’t tested Stick Up so I can’t compare, but wake up to record time didn’t seem to be a problem. When mounted up high, the camera has a ridiculously wide angle and recordings would often start as soon as I stepped within the camera’s field of view. However, leaving the “zone” open that wide also caused a lot of false alarms so it’s a bit of a tradeoff. Nest should provide an option for event-based recording. That’s a good idea.

    Michael Griffin I’ve only tested two other battery powered hubless cameras and they both have their problems. First, there’s Canary Flex and then there’s Reolink Argus. Reolink lacks cloud storage. I know some people prefer that, but I prefer to have cloud storage. Canary has been a little unstable lately. They keep moving features from the free to paid column, but they are also adding some cool new feature including person detection.

    I've only done one wired camera system review, and I did it in partnership with someone else, so I don't feel I'm qualified to make a recommendation there. I can say that Swann has been in the news lately for security vulnerabilities, but I believe they've been patched. Regarding wireless cameras, I have way more experience. Are there any features that are important to you?

    Well, that’s pretty much all of them. Nest and Arlo Pro are probably my favorites right now (if you eliminate using Wyze Cam 2 off-label). You can compare them here: homealarmreport.com/nest-cam-outdoor-vs-ring-vs-canary-flex/. A brief pro/con list for you: Nest’s resolution is better, but Arlo offers 7 days of free cloud storage where Nest’s cloud storage starts at $5 per month. Arlo's base station must remain indoors plugged into Ethernet but the cameras are battery powered. Nest plugs into a standard outlet. They both add person detection and zones if you pay, which are important features when shopping for an outdoor camera as they reduce false alarms and improve accuracy. Nest includes this with the $5 per month cloud storage plan, but Arlo charges $2.99 per month per camera. Nest records continuously where Arlo only records events. I use continuous recording in my front yard as I like to have a record of everything. I use Arlo in my backyard. Of course, recording continuously consumes more bandwidth. Finally, Arlo does have a smart light that you can tie to your cameras if you're looking for a light/camera combo.

They are back to 30 second clips alongside 24 hours of cloud storage.

And yeah the Canary keeps changing their free plan. I've told them if they get it I would recommend paying for the Membership (and they want the two way voice). They are looking in the Nest option with Drop cam, too. Anyway good luck. 😥 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    it's Rose I would respectfully disagree. The Arlo pro 2 doesn’t have a light and only has a siren on the base station. It isn’t a deterrent at all. The only way the burglar would hear the alarm go off is once they are already in the house. The ring has a very bright light (3x brighter than the ultra pro) and has an incredible alarm (110db vs Arlo ultras 80db) Also ring offers a 2 year warranty and if someone steals your doorbell or camera, ring will replace it for free.

  • @lbialy

    lbialy Yes, you understood correctly. I don’t know if the wired version is different, but the wireless/solar version’s siren is not automatic. I’ve tested other cameras that are the same, like Canary. To me, a manual siren is a bizarre choice-Perhaps less so outdoors since false alarms are common, but still odd. Ring works with IFTTT, Stringify, screened Alexa devices, and Google Home.
