I did see your video with 36 set up using non ring panel. But I will try this. Only thin its almost always cloudy here in NY. Hoping I (like you) will not need to charge batteries.

I have 1 in the front of my house that ranges around 50%-60% during the fall. It just gets more traffic. In the summer time, this thing is constantly in the high 90s for battery life. I have a southwest facing solar panel for my Ring Stick Up cam. However in the Pacific Northwest it can't keep the battery charged during the short, dark days of the winter months. I bought an A/C cable to power it instead. I was wondering if I could combine the A/C and solar panel via a Y-cable and mitigate the draw on my house power during sunny days.

I have not heard of anyone trying this. I would think you would need some kind of voltage regulator to control the current between the two sources. It sounds like more trouble than it’s worth, in my opinion. These devices only draw 5V, so any potential savings is probably not offset by your equipment spend. If AC power is an option, choose AC power 10 out of 10 times.

I had an Arlo battery camera system and I had to replace the batteries every couple of months in the winter when it got close to freezing. It just doesn't work long term and I gave up after a while. I now use ring cameras that are all wired or plugged in. The solar stuff is intriguing, but I doubt its usefulness in the pacific northwest during the gloomy winters. Anyone had a good experience with these solar cameras in the Seattle area? Do you have to manually recharge anytime?

My ring spotlight has 2 batteries. Solar panel shows its connect. Panel is pointed to sun, and both batteries are almost drained. Turned off monitoring thinking the solar panel could eventually recharge them back to green. The stick up cam can be switched between wired and battery mode. The same hardware does both. In theory, if you had it in wired mode and the power went out, it would continue to just use the battery to function. I tested this once, and it took about a day for the battery to drain. Your mileage may vary.

I have three ring cameras with solar panels attached. I'm in the South East of the UK, the panels are angled so the winter sun will strike them at 90 Deg. Seems to work OK only puzzle is I can't work out the charging logic, they all have two batteries sometimes I will get an alert saying one battery is low when the other is over 90%? Still none of the cameras, so far, has exhausted both batteries over a few dull days before getting enough sun to top them up again.

I have had a solar panel on my Ring Spotlight Cam Solar that I purchased in August of 2021 and all of the sudden I see that it's offline. When I take a look, one battery was at 3% and one at 0%. This is a south facing wall, great sun throughout the day, and the batteries have never been under 100%. There is no issue with the wiring to the panel, the panel is clean, on the app I see the battery with a sun and a lightning bolt, but the batteries are still not charging. Is there any way to check if the batteries are bad, the solar panel is bad, etc? Have never had issues with this device.

Ugh that’s frustrating to hear. I would start by bringing the batteries in and charging them back to full. You’ll know shortly if they’re the problem or not. If the problem persists, you may have a panel that’s gone bad. I’d unplug the panel from the camera and plug it back in just to make sure the connection is well seated. Beyond that, I recommend contacting Ring support. Best of luck, and thanks for commenting!

The only other time 1 of them went to zero was one winter when I was doing lots of work in the garden and triggering the camera too frequently. I have manually charged 1 overnight and placed it back in the camera this AM. After 5 hours it's still on 100%. I'm going to put the other one in half charged and see if the solar can do the rest. Hey guys he's wrong. Today's ring camera's and solar panels don't charge them. @@TechWinnerCChey after getting a spotlight cam, I can say that the solar panel does indeed work. Here's the thing, the stick up cam alone will not work. You need a camera with two batteries. A single battery camera needs to be kept in a low traffic and with the lowest motion capture settings so that the power lasts. With the two battery cam, the solar panel keeps up the battery power while the other battery is being used.
