Rimworld : Bedrooms : Tutorial Nuggets

Ойындар

Are they worth investing Gold, jade or silver? No their not, marble and some large statues and your good to go. Keep them fairly compact and you don't even have to floor them early on. Don't worry about comfort from end tables, but try for a good quality bed or better for the rest effectiveness.
Bedrooms are 3x6 on the inside though you can get away with 3x5.
Big rooms are 18 Down x 17 Across, done in blocks of two to ensure you can sub in power or greenhouse.

me too, but there is a benefit if your constructors are crap. well built beds get a high score on their own, but bad ones need end tables to reach the same scores. is useful if you overflow hospital beds and pawns are resting in their own beds because comfort then applies.

@Nike 5 Mega I never use stone on beds cause it gives less rest effectiveness at most it would be jade(very late game like 22mil wealth) since that doesnt reduce rest effectiveness also circadian half cycler are amazing on crafters and researchers even if its a -15% conscience they are not only giving up a free bedroom but over all a lvl 20 crafter w/0 circadian half cycler cant craft as fast as a lvl15 crafter w/ circadian half cycler since they have to sleep with is basically 8 hours of work missed (I tested this by cloning a colonist and seeing who can craft faster on a day) also if ur really willing give that crafter luciferium and it would only be a -5% conscience with the benefit of that very neat manipulation bonus

I end up doing a lot of rock smoothing even though it's not worth the effort. I like to think my pawns have a taste for mountainside fortresses, and they are committed enough to the theme to put in the extra effort. Also, don't for get to build a layer of granite walls around your marble walls for double walled temperature insulation and maximum battle readiness.

A info nugget to endtable and dressers: in your hospital their usefullness exells. The reason is because your injured pawns lay awake in bed when they recover from their wounds! Thus a higher comfort might be the nicer thing to cancel out negative moodlets like intens pain, etc.

Excellent quality wooden bed gets you over the 0.9 comfort therehold so you don't need the end table nor the dresser as long as you have a decent builder you can just build and deconstruct until you get the right quality for all your needs. Wood is easily accessible in most biomes so wasted resources don't matter. The dresser bonus is good for roleplay if your bedroom design can afford losing couple tiles of space or if you really want that comfort early on, but as long as it's over the 0.9 it will give you the +10 max bonus for the whole time a pawn lays in it. At the end of the day it's just a +1/-1 mood difference which isn't nearly as much as other things so feel free to build them the way you want.

Early game when you have a single room, a good trick I like to use is to cover the floor in daylilies (plant zone, not in pots). This does a few things, first it adds a lot of beauty without taking up space which means with the large room and the high beauty it's often an impressive or very impressive barracks. The next is, since the floor is dirt, pawns don't track dirt on to it, so you don't have to clean. Next is it trains up growing for new pawns, so they don't fail so much in early harvests. Next, if you also put dining furniture in it, pawns will eat there and you'll have a very impressive dining room moodlet. There's obvious downsides, interrupted sleep, wasted time replanting, etc. So they do eventually transition into rooms, but you can go for quite a while on a multipurpose room with a floor filled with daylilies.

Getting them maxed on comfort while sleeping dose help, if you max comfort they have bigger pool of comfort to drop down from, and at the very least it helps to prevent them from geting debufs from to low comfort. Not to mention they are quite cheap and add a tiny beat of beauty themself, enough to mostly offsett lose of space, at least in earlygame rooms.

I'd say adding lights is a very good idea early game, and leaving them in(and off) is still good late game. Early game players generally don't have a dedicated hospital, and if you do have one bed, what happens when several pawns get sick/injured? The penalty from treating in darkness could be the make/break point for saving someone. It also makes it just a bit easier to convert bedrooms into prison cells in an emergency. As a side note you have had enemies drop pod directly onto your hospital, who can say when that will happen to everyone else right when it's most inconvenient. Standard lights are only 10 steel, if you put in one unconnected conduit so you don't have to have pawns turn them on and off that still only 11 steel. Not a huge investment for a measurable increase in tend quality. Now late game this is much less important, as you likely have a couple of high grade medics, and a dedicated hospital. But it will still hurt you if you're ever unprepared, because it's Rimworld.

I always enjoy these tutorial videos. How i found this channel actually. A few notes though: The buff from the dresser and endtable coupled with a royal bed (which also improves rest effectiveness) means you start with a +10 to mood for a couple of hours, at which point you then progress through your normal comfort bonuses. Its basically equivalent to half a beer every day that 1) stacks with actual beer 2) has no side effects 3) is really cheap to implement and 4) costs nothing to maintain. They also improve room impressiveness early game again for basically nothing The requirements for titles should also be mentioned. You need 30 tiles for the highest titles, merging 2 of the fullsized bedrooms gives you 42, which is enough, but as the highest requires ALL fine flooring not just 30 tiles of it, that's an extra 240 stone blocks. On the ones with the middle dining room, you only have 35 tiles which is a lot more managable.

Personally think that first room is a bit misleading. Having good art and +1 walls makes a big difference at that level. Plus at that level having good marble statues laying around isn't exactly common. Prioritizing art skills usually comes after other essentials on most difficulties. Again, referencing early game, when you would just have dirt and or wood floors.

glad I saw this, because until very recently the wiki showed barracks providing the same bonus as bedrooms at the top most tiers and when I first adopted barracks this was true and never considered barracks squad being nerfed. This meant that if you could get the head of the bed far enough from where other people traveled you could effectively save a ton of wealth by just making deep cubbies for your colonists to sleep in in a very large and thus easy to improve room. I personally was using a room with wall length 19 on the vertical to achieve this. bonus points if you extended the room horizontally to add your dining and rec room to the side. It all being one room meant that you saved on heating and cooling, total amount of wealth spent on art, etc. trade off was that no matter how far away from the main hall your colonist was they still receive the sleep disturbed debuff from other colonoists going to their beds. now that I checked because I wanted to be all smarmy and say "but with barracks you can get wondrously... easier" I find that it changed. barracks squad has been nerfed and I need to reconsider how I strategize around bedrooms. one tidbit you should mention is bed materials, stone for prisons, wood/steel/plasteel for everything else. a marble bed may look pretty but it slows your rest down. I personally use wood.

Higher rest effectiveness is not always better. I have a pawn in my current colony who is a quick sleeper, so I decided to give them a masterwork double bed. They sleep amazingly fast, which has 2 drawbacks. 1. Since they only need like 2 hours of sleep, they end uo spending almost 22 hours awake each day. By the end of the day, they are exhausted and in a bad mood, leading to mental breaks. 2. They sleep so fast, that despite being married for most of the time I have had my colony, he and his wife almost never "get some lovin"

That many rooms is necessary if playing on adventure mode/med difficulty because you can make 1 large stone walled room with 1 large marble sculpture and 3-4 beds in the room. The small negative effect from being woken up by others is offset by the room being spacious, clean, and the beds being good.

to get wondrously impressive you either need a very large room (as big as your usual late game base stockpile) made of gold walls and floors with 2-4 gold large legendary sculpture as for a wondrously impressive bedroom you'll need to make it bigger 6x8 or somethin similar and have all the furniture's on legendary quality alongside three legendary golden grand sculptures and space matters on it cause a anything that doesn't add any beauty reduces the impressiveness by 5-10 points the catch is that you barely get 240+ cause you start to trade beauty with space.

I kinda go for the organic look because of the map. I choose small or large hills. It looks like this method is better suited to flat maps. But, but but but but (I like butts), this method has so many advantages and the detail about making rooms impressive is very much appreciated. So maybe I will be implementing this method in an organic style. :)

I always go with a 17x19 design. Makes for 6 5x5s and a 3 tile hallway. The bedrooms come out to 30, "average size" with a bedside table, dresser, and lamp. Throw in carpets and you've got slightly impressive, which is a +3. I was unaware of how unimportant dressers and bedside tables are until this video. I always went with it because you can just make three bedrooms and have the other side be used for temporary storage lol

With ideology, bedrooms are now the ideal place to grow nutrifungus. While most ideologies won't appreciate eating it, it makes for a fine hay subtitude for all your animal ranching needs and will improve the beauty of every tiles from -1 to +1. Another option would be and a Standing lamp and to grow Dandelions (which only require 30% light) and to zone/pen grazing animals in it. Make sure your colonists sleep schedule is synchronise with animals to avoid interupted sleep. A good option are Guinea Pigs because they nuzzle, give minimal filth and that their leather is the most heat insulating textile in the game, which is great for tribalwear.

It also has a nice empire pawn, double flame in social, single flame in shooting, jogger, psychically hypersensitve.

Something that i started doing recently in my games is i build the bedrooms larger, but i moved the main job they will do to their rooms IE Stone Cutter bench in with the main stone cutter. This helped in multiple days, now the rooms are much larger and give larger room bonus, they seem to stay happier at way higher levels and the most impressive stat that this changed is they NO LONGER socialize as much together, so there is rarely anymore social fights due to negative socializing. I am currently playing a game which i am testing restriction zoning, so they are rarely ever see one another and placed 1x1 frigerators in the corner of joining rooms that also touches the outside hallway. They will access the frig from within their room.

Won't the room become ugly due to the stone cutter bench and stone chunks? Or does the increased room size compensate for that? This is something I've thought a lot about trying, especially for cooks and researchers.

7:51 I suppose a use for them might be if your artist has an inspiration? Would make some sense for them to make a grand sculpture, then, as you'll potentially get the rough equivalent of 4 legendary large sculptures for the price of one inspiration, instead of the 4 inspirations you would otherwise need.

Though turning the hallway connecting all those bedrooms to one another into a giant, extremely impressive dining room never occured to me. I'm too used to build them next to my future killbox and hospital. ^_^

Grand Sculptures are really good when Colonists do recreational act "Viewing art". This will increase their recreation stat, based on how high the beauty of the art is. The higher the Beauty, the faster the Recreation increases. This is the best possible way to increase recreation, as it's possible to max out the bar in like three seconds or faster.

    1) Use wooden floors to start because of limited resources but upgrade to stone asap to prevent fires; the same goes for wooden furniture. Fighting a fire in a small enclosed space is time consuming and deadly. 2) Grand Sculptures can be placed in large rooms and used for defensive cover and decor, I like plasteel grans sculptures since they are not flammable and have a large amount of hp. 3) End tables and dressers are quick ways to skill up construction and can be sold off later if you do not want them. 4) Build your bedrooms as close to the projected location of your kill box or main defensive line as possible to reduce travel time and as a better lure for raiders to your defensive positions. 5) Plan your settlement around your geothermal vents and use the geothermal power plants exhaust to heat your base. Build either a small outside patio garden, animal area or some other unroofed structure either adjacent or near the geothermal plant and use vents to shunt the heat either into the base hallways or venting it out into the open.

One thing is that you can get +3 on a really good barracks. Since u save so much space and can cram loads of wealth in its quite easy. In fact the only issue is disturbed sleep Edit: in fact I think if u just remove the inner corridor doors and move the beds to the back or the room u would hit +3 with a fraction of the wealth and aboid disturbed sleep for the most part! Could probably slim it down to 2x6 blocks for 33% more beds. May need to thin the inner corridor to 1 wide to ensure u don't cramp the beds and keep enough distance.

The comfort is worth it. It's about an extra hour of +2 mood buff, and I've had colonists literally break when they didn't have a break risk because they were right at that line of minor break risk for ages. An extra hour away from that barrier decreases the chance of a break, which is definitely worth it.

Does it matter if the sun lamps overlap for a single tile? My "OCD" isn't agreeing with an 18x17 grid. I realise I will need at least 17x17 for the trade beacon if I'm going to design a modular layout - but I've got no problems trying to find a better suited design for the solar array if it means finding a more suitable grid size.
