I agree with you because the trombone is the best instrument on the face of the earth...
Rimsky-Korsakov's not well enough known masterpiece. I loved it many years ago when I was a young man until today (50-plus years later).
This is a young man from Russia without the same advantages as we have in the States. I think the young man did a great job. And I am happy for him that he was lucky enough to procure a Shires trombone.
Lol, last note. All the rest of the trombones were like YES MY TURN.
Passou muitos anos no mar.

Mil gracias por este video Russians, they had to be! Perfection to no end. Many thanks for this video
Wonderful trombone performance. Thanks for sharing!
I have to agree with the other musicians on this one. The soloist was good and his phrasing was excellent with a dark solid sound. But the ensemble ! I hope those clarinetists keep their day jobs .

As it's a military band in Russia, I assume this IS their day job.
Beautiful...best word to describe!!
Very good tone quality on the trombone. I wish I could make mine sound that good. Bravo!

+Melton Culpepper Melton these great soloists can be truly intimidating. It takes lots of practice to reach such perfection. Don't give up.
Beautiful concerto!
I just LOVE this piece. Yes, I commented before, but I wanted to make the point that I was a viola major and a bassoon minor, and the brass instrument I played mainly was the French Horn. I did play the trombone, although just a little. I have to say this piece is so well-written and so well-played that I don't miss the strings at all. And that's a LOT for a violist to say... :)
I wish people would take this beautiful instrument more seriously and write more great music for it...
A brilliant performance
I have had this music for years, didn't know what it was supposed to sound like with a band till now. I like.
I enjoyed your performance very much.
can't wait to play this!
🎉🎉🎉🎉 Waoooooo Excelentísima Interpretación y Orquesta. Estupendo. Bendiciones mil. Escuela de Música: S P S "MÚSICA CON VALORES" - Perú Un servidor: Julio Martin Fiestas Chunga.
I can play this too! It's great!
Bravo!
so nice.
gosh this guy is good!
lindo demais.
He has a fantastic mustache
Excepcional. Impressionante! Seria o velho Luiz de Paula regendo o filho Wanderlei no trombone?
bravissimo
touche!
Is apt that a Russian Navy band performed the piece, as NRK was a Russian Navy officer. Thought the ensemble was surprisingly inadequate. But, the conductor and soloist were very clearly a match for the piece's considerable challenges.
The 1 mov was great.

New contemporary music for trombone is available online at MusicaNeo. (Search for "Schottenbauer" and "Trombone" to find solos, duets, and a trombone octet.) I wrote and performed these and other pieces in the 1990's, and have been putting them online for the first time in 2013.
The music is free on internet. Good Russian music, good Russian musician.
I felt as though the tad movement was a tad slow. Obviously superb first movement
WOAH
I got this solo for all district band
I'm playing the third movement the 6. of February in front of the conductor of "HMK "Garde". The triplets are going fine, don't get stucked on the quarter note between them. Then you're safe! ;) Anyway, wish me luck! "Garden", here I come :D
mola
I think this is some of the most thoughtful phrasing and articulation I have ever heard and tuning of the soloist. Sad about 03:57 where the most poetic bit is wrecked by whatever.
@MMBG398 Fantastic performance!! Do you want see and hear another terrific tromboneplayer: look for Jos Jansen, Dutch Marineband 'Concerto for basstrombone. Enjoy
Probably just an attempt to get a better balance for that particular piece. We did it once at a WOSIS band weekend. I can't remember what piece it was, but shifting the band about seemed to make it sound a tonne better.
The engravings on the bell you can see in the side shots suggest that this is indeed a shires
Why did this come up at the right of a cs video?
Is there any particular reason for the seating arrangement? This is different than what I am used to.
BTW, I'm a dual UK / US citizen, so I have a bit of an international perspective.

I doubt the position of the breath. In addition, the processing of the sound before the breath is rough.
WHO WOULD PUT THE FLUTES IN THE BACK ROW?!!!???

A band director that doesn't want to deal with their nonsense.
Will do! Haha :P
Dat mustache
I didn't know Bob Saget played clarinet
Is that a Shires?
I'm not commenting on US policy, rather I'm referring to their ignorance of anything and everything beyond their shores, their sense of entitlement and behaviour abroad. I'm also uniquely qualified to comment on this as a dual US / UK citizen, having spent my life between the two places.
Who taught those clarinets how to tongue? My god that was brutal. Bravo to the soloist though!
Is he the only trombonist on that stage?
At 7:05 whats up with the clarinetist?

Dominic spit was leaking out of his keys. blew air into them to dry it off and help the keys seal properly
its ok i guess the trombone is good
come to think of it, I think the orchestra wore out our soloist
I've just watched videos of the David, Jacob, Grondahl and now the Rimsky. AND THERE ARE ARGUMENTS ON EVERY SINGLE ONE. *sigh* Oh well, that's the internet for you.

Arguing means that people are using their ability to reason critically, which is part of the intellect; brain food. Art should not just be an activity that causes pleasure, it must inspire and encourage the use of the powers of reason and judgment, not encourage turning off the brain.
4 people are deaf
That was great but the orchestra was not the same
It's remarks like that that make us (US citizens) disliked world-over, thinking that we have it better than everywhere else. You're talking down about the country that invented / discovered lasers, the electric arc, 3D holography and nuclear fusion. Did you know that in 2012 15.1% of Americans lived below the poverty threshold, while in the same year, 13.7% of Russians lived below the national threshold? If we all stopped condescending to other countries perhaps more people would like Americans!
@takuyamatsuda7214

Please do also realize that lasers, electric arc, etc are not music related in any sense
What a terrible ensemble - and what a great job the soloist did in spite of the crap going on behind him!
3rd movement was too slow but overall good performance

R.K. wrote "Allegretto", not "Allegro".
Amen to that. The trombone has a serious lack of original literature.
awesome playing! not a fan of the conductor though :s
Gran concierto, lástima de director.
I'm just a freshman in high school and can most definitely say that those clarinetists did not do their best. They weren't exactly together and they sound quite out of tune.
look down less pls.
This lacks so much enthusiasm
