Wow ! Two very fine musicians. When I was a serious trombone student over 45 years ago, trombone playing was approached much differently and pedantically. I come from a family of professional musicians and educators and was surrounded by classically trained performers. However, life events channelled me into other work and I made a living in retail. Nevertheless, the evolution in brass playing, especially the trombone, as well as the design of the instrument, has not escaped me. What we students heard in our minds back in the day is now commonplace even in young students today ! There are some really exquisitely made trombones nowadays by which it is difficult to produce a bad sound. In this video I heard a soloist with precise intonation, flawless technique, perfect phrasing, and a dark and full but centered sound. Bravo !

Not a good idea to point your bell at the microphone. You want more of a side angle. I like your sound, but you might go for a bit brighter and more focused for Rimsky. It's more the instrument and sound he would have been writing for, and I think you'd get a little more clarity of line against the piano. Good work, though.

Really great playing, but yikes is this piece cheesy. I really wish it would vanish from audition lists. It's basically one giant "tada!" There are SO many more interesting trombone solos that could take its place at this point. Meanwhile, though, you guys did a wonderful job with it.
