great so can I use one on a 40 size Ultra stick ...nitro to brushless setup with 60 amp esc? Have the rimfire 46 and 55?

I already have a Leopard 4260-4T 720KV for my Escapade MX. I’m looking at doing 11x8 or 11x6 on 5S. I think I paid $48 for the motor. They’re now $52. I’m going for 1000 to 1100 watts and staying less than 64 Amps. I think it’ll fly just fine and I’ll keep the extra $50 bucks in my pocket. I’m not saying the Rimfire is Bad or won’t perform. I’m just saying they’re EXPENSIVE! Good information John.

Sounds like you're on target with the Leopard. $50 extra is almost another airframe or another Leopard. That's one of the funny things about this hobby: Are marginal gains worth 2x the cost? For most pilots, probably not. I suppose if you were in competition and flying professionally you might be able to notice the difference in power; but, for flying circles at the club? I think Leopards, Tomcats, and Geforce G32's help us stretch the budget while still flying with a capable power system. Thanks for the observations as always, J

RC Video Reviews agreed! The Rimfire is a quality motor for sure, but you’re gonna pay through the nose for it. Like you said, if you’re in competition or something, yeah it’s probably worth it. (Same goes for servos and all the other ingredients that make up a RC airplane). But you’re giving the information and the viewer can make a decision armed with that information. Do I really want to put a $90 .32 size motor and $140 of servos on a Tower Sport that costs $104? That’s what it’s about.

You've definitely captured what I'm trying to convey. Most of the products I've reviewed I would consider serviceable for their intended purpose. The data is there to provide relative assessments. As you figured out early on, the questions I try to answer are: 1) How do we get more for less and what do I gain or lose based on that choice? 2) Does the thing do what it says it will do reliably?

Thank you thectest and real numbers on this. I would think though if they based their 1800 on close to their 100 amp burst it should easily hit that. It better be a pretty short burst. My 80 amp esc I am going to run with it has a much higher burst than 100 even. No reason to abuse my stuff like that though

Hey Daren, Glad to help. Unfortunately, I do not have a .32 to test. I just did the big motor shootout for the .32 class and the premium motor I had for that category was the Cobra. I may have to go get a .32 now though after seeing what the .46 did.

It's a brushless motor thrust stand. They're white labeled by several retailers. I got this one from Hobbyking and it has a Turnigy label on it.

I'm using it with 6s and a 12x7 master aircrew on a VS Pilatus. It flys with less than half throttle but the motor getting a bit warm. Next Sunday I'm going to try a 10x6 . The judge is a nice apparatus for my work bench but I can't find it anymore..

Wow, 12x7 on 6s would be a heavy lift for this motor.

I know this is an OLD Video but, have you flown your Escapade MX with the 11x5.5 and 5S? What’s the verdict? I’m putting together my Escapade MX, I have 5S batteries and I have 11X5.5 prop is it a good choice?

Actually, Hobie has the MX now. I don't remember flying it with 5s. I do remember it being pretty quick on 4s.

Generally go for as much pitch as you can get without hitting the amperage limit. So something close to square if you can.

This motor is a beast I have used it with a 12x12 and it is ballistic... you can definately abuse it and it will survive

12x12 on what cell count?

You really shouldn't have anything loose in front of a motor, especially large ones. If one of those props gets sucked into a revolving propeller you could get a very nasty injury

Great job! The pitch speed on the 6s test is going to be quite a bit higher, perhaps the prop is stalling which will reduce the static thrust. Did the prop sound much different than than the 5s test?

I came up with 100mph pitch speed on the calculator. 6s sounded superb, I didn't hear anything unusual indicating stall. I'm also going to test an 11x7 for my use, but I probably wouldn't recommend due to pushing the amp load a little too high. Appreciate your callout on the t/w. Thanks for the comments. J

@@RCVideoReviews My experience is that typically amp loads go down once flying. If I can't monitor flying amps I always check the motor temps with an infrared thermometer immediately after landing. Good motor airflow for cooling can also have a good effect on that.

@@diesnerfamily6858 I try to mention the concept of static vs dynamic thrust in test videos. I'm generally ok with about 10% over on amperage static. I'm constantly stuffing fingers through cowl ventilation holes on hot days (Florida). My Vector controllers provide amperage. I need to investigate amperage sensors for Taranis.

I think Value should be measured as Thrust/$ (not Watt/$) because we pay for the end result on the aerodynamics and that is represented by thrust. It brings efficiency into the equation giving advantage to more efficient motors. Makes sense?

I finally realized the .32 and 46 are the same motor just marketed different. 32 3-4s .46 4-5s just different props.

When you get a chance could you take a look at the Flite Test Motors, they claim as much as 20% more power than other motors in the same class and they are awfully quiet.

I have a plane with this motor and a plane with the cobra c3525 780kv. On the same prop, the cobra pulls less amps but also has noticeably less power. Now it makes sense, the rimfire is 200kv higher..

@@RCVideoReviews i settled on a 14x10 apc with the cobra c3525 780kv on 4s, and it hauls the mail. The rimfire pulls about the same amps with a 12x8. I've got the cobra on a great planes zero, and the rimfire on the escapade mx, both on 4s. Try an apc 12x8 on your mx and you'll like it. I started with the 11x8.5 as well, and hands down like the 12x8 better!

I think I have run the Mx on 12x8 on 4s and it definitely was quick. After this Rimfire motor test I was really intrigued at the thrust and efficiency running 5s. Since this video I've been running 5s and love it, but I've only flown once since the change. FYI: I'm starting to pay attention to thrust and power to weight much more than I used to. I used to focus on Watts/Lb and I still do use that to get a starting point, but I'm learning to watch that thrust too. Watch the Sunnysky video and you'll see why. The SK3 pulled more amps with a smaller prop, the Sunnysky pulled less amps with a bigger prop and made substantially more thrust. So my picture is getting bigger on how I look at motors.

@@RCVideoReviews agreed. I've learned pitch speed means nothing without sufficient thrust to get the airframe there. My zero has a big draggy cowl and works well on 4s swinging a big prop. The escapade mx is way more sleek, and requires less thrust to reach top speed despite similar weight to the zero. The zero hit 101mph flat and level on the gps with the cobra 3525 780kv and 14x10 prop and has unlimited vertical, even on 4s. But I'd never run that setup on the escapade. I've learned (through trial and error) airframe drag is a factor not to be overlooked. Your research, helps cut out a lot of that trial and error!

Yup. I learned that lesson putting a 2800kv motor and a 6x6 prop on a 40” flite test plane. Made 500 watts and had pitch speed of 100+. In reality it was like flying a trainer. I had watts, I had pitch speed, I had no thrust.

I was looking for how those cheap ebay generic motors test against these motors

@@carlo8336 Se il denaro non è un oggetto, ottieni un Rimfire. Sono di altissima qualità. Anche gli eFlite sono forti e nella stessa categoria di prezzo premium. Cobra, Leopard e Sunnysky sono di altissima qualità e godono di buona reputazione. Di recente ho eseguito una sparatoria a motore e il Tomcat G32 è risultato il migliore rispetto a molti altri marchi. Dovresti guardare quel video. Ho usato Turnigy principalmente per aerei più economici.
