Had a crush on him since early eighties. I had exceptional taste.

I whistled at him in a shop i was working in. He pretended not to notice then as he left he turned round and flashed me that wonderful smile

What a loss to the world losing this amazing man was.

I'm watching this in 2020, & actually have a tear in my eye. I grew up watching the young ones & it was playground chatter in the morning after an episode on the telly. Rick wasn't just another actor, he was a human being of the highest order. I miss him anyway 😢

Ditto from 2024. In 1982 I was married with a very young family. I spotted the The Young Ones in the TV Times and asked my wife what it was (I'd been away for a couple of weeks), she said 'it's some silly childish stuff' and I thought well, obviously for me then. When I saw it I couldn't stop laughing for days... Dear Rik, we miss you!

It made me go "aww" when he said that him and Ade would be together forever.

The man was so damn full of life it's hard to imagine he's not here anymore.

Rik Mayall was probably one of the few British comics that could be hilariously funny just from a look or a facial reaction. Absolutely amazing talented funny man, gone too soon. Everything he was in was brilliant.

I am 50 years old and I followed Rik's career from start to finish. Rik was one of the funniest people I have ever seen on television. A total legend. Rest in peace Rik.

soeffingwhat I didn't actually get to go and see them live but I have got all five live shows one show from each tour on video. I bought them a long time ago lol.

Dave Wiseman I have them too but I'm happy to say I got to see the 2001 "Arse Oddity" tour and the 2003 "Weapons Grade Yfronts" Tour when they came to Ireland. the 2003 Show was the best for me cos I was with my Sister and we were sitting only a few Rows from the front. Can't tell you how magical it was to actually have Rik and Ade actually performing their Schtick right in front of us. The whole Arena was in stitches :-D I've since visited the "Bottom Bench" in Hammersmith a few times. Its a great shrine for Rik. I remember watching his very last performance, Crackanory, broadcast about a week after he died. I don't mind admitting I actually felt very emotional watching him.

Rik is a human happy hour if there ever was one.

Rik is very high on my list of people I'd love to spend an afternoon drinking with. The world needs more creative, amusing lunatics - RIP Rik.

Rik made so many people happy, he put a smile on so many faces. Even those who were grieving for a lost loved one found themselves laughing and smiling after watching him on screen. What a guy RIP Rik.

His impression of ade is flawless, even when they switch bodies in the young ones in the laundry/university challenge episode its perfect. He was perfect.

I love Rik Mayall. He is my hero! He made my childhood and everything a success. Thanks Rik x

To be fair it's not unusual for a guy to worry that his fly is undone when in a publically visible situation. My dad received an OBE from the queen with his fly undone (OK, now I'm going to have to check that memory with my mum :) ). God only knows how that happened, but I think Rik's fly gesture was simply for the camera and audience, and nothing to do with him kissing Gloria. It's classic Rik to mime that perhaps his willy is hanging out :)

Rik was such a different type of comedic actor. Like Ade, he did slapstick better than any other British comic. His Bottom series was world class comedy. So different to Alan Partridge or The Office for example but so damn funny. British comic IMO are (or certainly were) the world's most talented.

A backwards step!?...how can bringing so many people so much joy by laughter be in anyway a backwards step...thinks rick...so quite and understated in interviews..almost shy untill he gets going..rip dude

We used to slink off to the local youth club once a week to watch the young ones. Once I was old enough to police the TV I enjoyed the new statesman. Bottom live, bottom, black adder and ghp where all just icing on the cake. Thanxs for the laughs Rick.
