I grew up watching Rik mayall and ade Edmondson thanks to my older brother....I love Rik mayall he was taken sooner than he should have been RIP

3 legends. Brilliant.

In case anyones wondering about this unusual combination, I found this quote in Blitz magazine from 1986. “Rik Mayall is a self-confessed fan…Rik Mayall appeared in their last series, by request. (Ball rates Mayall as “the best of that bunch - he’s here to stay.”)”

thats a great bit of info, and this sketch fills me with such nostalgia, as I watched it as a kid and roared with laughter.

What a legend Rik is

Brilliant fusing together of comedic talents. Great comedy always needs great timing as well as good lines and they've all got it in spade loads. RIP Bobby and Rik you made so many people laugh.

Those sideburns made Rik look much older than he was!

Mayall wasn't really an "alternative" comic. He described his most famous comedic creations as in the tradition of theatrical grotesque.

Seen both acts live.. Cannon and ball in the 70s and rik mayall in the 80's..both brilliant acts.. But this clip is very much old versus new.. C&b trying to keep up with the timed

I'm not even sure it was entirely new what shows like the Young Ones did, although it was brilliant and I was a big fan. Like Ade and Rik said they almost went back to what Laurel and Hardy did with the violence. I think Ade even mentioned Tom and Jerry.

The old and the new at the time worked well together. Enjoy it for what it is and stop trying to score comedic points just because you're clearly a Mayall fan. Comedy like music is fluid and it changes as the generations pass. The old mocking the up and coming generations is sad, but equally the young mocking what has gone is equally sad.

No. It was never one of the best routines but great to see the melding of the generations. Credit to risk mayall appearing on this show as Adrian Edmondson and Ben Elton were a bit sniffy about the old guard. The cartoon violence seen here though was not too different from what we saw in bottom. This sketch did make me laugh though Henrik became more cooperative once tommy took control

Sad comment...Cannon and Ball just like The Young Ones made millions laugh. Just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't make them not funny to many people.

This sketch just doesn't work. Apart from it being not very funny to begin with, the two respective styles just don't get at all. Rik made the best of it though...

One of the funniest men ever, with a famously unfunny double act. Unfortunately, they win here and make the experiment's result what it is.

they weren't Morecame and Wise cant best them bet double act Rik an Ade were great
