It is far from the Italian belcanto unfortunately, but it would be good for a choir.

straight, not vibrating sound… nasal… Very poor choice…

This was amazing. Loved everything about it.

Wonderful performance and a super Rigoletto. Enjoyed very much.

First time I heard Mr. Kelsey was on a Richard Tucker gala several years ago. I just loved his voice, and have been happily following his progress. His Rigoletto is not like others I have heard, but I very much enjoyed the live online broadcast, and will be listening again on Tuesday.

This piece is heart breaking. So beautifully performed.

He was fantastic.

The comments bore me . Free hate for nothing. He was a wonderful Rigoletto. With also a capacity to act his caracter. I enjoyed every minute of this show. Thank you metropolitan.

I can really tell you have no much sense of how a good baritone voice sounds like. This is just horrible. There is a reason why people are being rude with their comments. At least listen to how the great Italian baritone singers interpret rigoletto.

The joke is you...as you assumed I meant recordings....I have heard him live as well in New York....same bad technique with an underwhelming instrument.

if he was sick, he should have backed out and not immortalize this terrible performance. If he is that great, the met would have had him back healthy and in great shape. His bad choice.

really?? is this the all-famed Quinn Kelsey? what a let down! unstable sound emission to the point of sounding like different voices in the same sentence, attempts legato but runs out of breath, very limited emotion comes through the singing and frankly sub-par acting for 21st century standards. a big let down for me!

I heard him as Germont at Opera Memphis over 10 years ago and was overwhelmed with his beautiful, rich, resonant sound. His voice is now unrecognizable to me! This is terrible as is his Di Luna. Why js he crooning Verdi?! All this straight tone sounds like he is singing a Bach cantata. It is really sad that we are now supposed to accept this as a Verdi baritone.

This is just awful. Nasally and completely bland

the acting doesn't excite, you can't feel anything, and this is one of the most important scenes and like.... You can't feel anything! He has zero squillo, no big sound, small singing. And this "La porta, la porta" was horrible, there was a delay in the voice 0:50

Take the mic away and you will hear - NOTHING!

I don’t get why he is loved on KZread and why he’s a regular performer at the Met. Terrible nasal sound, seems like he doesn’t open his mouth enough. On this recording his voice is also small. Rigoletto? I’m sorry, this is too much…

​@@05350 for sure, listen to how the orchestra is also muffled; voices can't be judged by recordings, Sumi Jo sounds amazing in recordings but don't work in theater, Sondra's voice sounds horrible in recordings but it's very big and tender live

First, his sound clearly isn't nasal. Second, to make the sound not nasal (if it were) opening his mouth more wouldn't solve the issue (but there is obviously none to be solved). Thirdly, I agree that here his voice sounds weirdly small (compared to other singers), but very beautiful and I am sure that the voice would be heard to the last row but I'm not sure and that's a guess based on this recording.

What a shame. He has no squillo and musicality at all.

If I could talk to this singer, I would just ask him to please sing from his heart. His singing lacks emotion/passion. To me, he sings this aria like a German lied. I heard him sing with Christian van Horn in a concert at Carnegie Hall. In that performance, he was also lacking passion.
