Right side chambers tour
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
A tour of the right side chambers housing Gallery Divisions 1 and 2, Brass Chorus and String II. Something got mixed up with the aspect ratio in the processing so it have narrower head than usual...I'll re-process the clips and re-upload after I get home.

As depressing as it is to see all the carnage, it’s all at least fixable. Might take quite a while but it’ll get there. From pictures I’ve seen from the other side it seems like the water damage on there is far worse. It’s also very encouraging to see those 100” reeds in place. Take the victories when you can get em.

MegaMobass, The Echo chamber is horrifying to look at! I believe it was vandalized!
Thank you for showing the organ in detail. I find it really interesting to see the dimensions and complexity of the instrument and hear the history mixed in with your knowledge.
Thank you so much for these video tours!!! It gives us some idea of the massive amount of work needed. I am grateful for your dedication for this treasure.
Thanks for the tour. Sad to see the mangled pipes, but they can be fixed.
I really enjoy your videos! As a young organist, I hope to someday play this organ fully restored!
For anyone who wonders why the pipe count on this organ is approximate, this video should answer that question. I imagine that by the time the restoration is done it will be possible to answer that question definitively at last. It's sad to see these divisions in such rough shape but at least all the material is there to rebuild them.
In Gallery I the diaphone (8’ & 16’) and the mixture mirabillis VII are on 25” of wind, and the diapason 8’ rank and a 4’ octave can be used separately from the rest of the mixture
Tromba d'Amour. The Trombone of Love. My guess is they'd run out of things to call ranks and started having a bit of fun.

Remember that "Flute d'Amour" is a very common stop name. Tromba d'Amour not so much.

@@cnagorka You certainly don't get many of them in an orchestra! Really enjoying all of your videos btw, a superb record of what it was versus what it's going to be. Thanks for posting them.
Are the roof leaks going to continue being an issue? It seems like they will have to do a lot of periodic roof checks to prevent this from happening again.

Sure they'll have to keep checking...but it's better now since the new roof went on in the last restoration of the building, and people care about the organ in the first place! It wasn't that way in the '60s and '70s so much.
How is the funding going even three years ago they estimated 10 years to fully restore the organ but (correct me If I'm wrong) a video at the time when Mr. Ball did an interview mentioned that for every dollar given to the organ the Atlantic city casino commission would match those amounts given I wonder if this is still true? the time line I would guess the time line has been extended for obvious reasons.
Doesnt the Brass Chorus section have a mixture with reed pipes in it? Id love to see that demoed sometime!!!!
At least the rank card is there. Figuring out some of the voices otherwise would be a challenge.
Thank you very much for your video! If only I could fly to US to volunteer on this gargantuan project. So the Grand piano is on the opposite side?

Yes in the Enclosed Choir division in the left forward chamber.
I believe it was vandalized 😟
What has been done to protect the organ from further damage, should another hurricane hit Atlantic City???
The senator really loved his large rank mixtures. What is the biggest mixture in terms of either ranks or pipes of the Midmer Losh?

I believe the great has some sort of Grand Chorus XI ranks, that's the biggest I can think of.

Hey Cornwall, funny bumping into you here! I'm pretty sure we met a few times when I was at Anthrocon over a decade ago. I miss those days sometimes. The world just seemed like a better place back then. Hope you guys are all doing well.
These divisions are next on the docket for restoration, aren’t they?
What’s the goal of the double languids in those flue pipes? Does it just increase volume or maybe focus the wind more?
@cnagorka
3 жыл бұрын
It is a way to get more volume out of the pipe at a given wind pressure.
A lot of asbestos stickers everywhere. Are they removing the asbestos where possible? Or just the “don’t do anything to it” strategy?
@cnagorka

That's right, just leave it alone.
Is this wood damage from the hurricane or was the building that badly neglected over the years?
@cnagorka
Жыл бұрын
It was that badly neglected over the years. The hurricane was in 1944 and these divisions were still playable into the 1950s.
Is there any strategy put in place to stop water damage/vandalism happening again?

The air conditioning drains have been relocated and hopefully people recognize what they have so workmen won't go tromping through the pipes again.
Add a light to your camera and all your shots will be good.

I don’t think so. That will result in shadows being exactly behind the objects which looks strange, and if a shiny object is being filmed then it will shine right back into the camera. The video is fine it is for me. I think he’s holding a torch a little away from the camera which is good.

I hope during the restoration they plan on installing better lighting. It would best to do it when everything is out of the chamber.
