I absolutely LOVE this song!!! It is SOO 1962...it SCREAMS the early, pre-Beatles 60s in Britain...the 60s when Cliff Richard & The Shadows were Britain's biggest pop stars...the 60s before they began to swing...the 60s when 'Hancock' and 'Supercar' were on telly. I was only about 2 years old when this song came out, and yet for me it evokes strong memories of early childhood. Bernard Cribbins RULES!! The Beatles was pretty much the first "real" band George Martin produced (as opposed to doing comedy songs, which are still "real" too but you get what I mean). The record company didn't think much of the Beatles and were the only one to actually give them a record deal, after every other company had turned them down, and so they threw the guy who did joke songs in the studio with them, and it turned out George Martin was the best producer ever, and the band was the best band ever.

A truly legendary man who has been in so many programmes, films, comedy shows, dramas, and played so many memorable characters. He will be truly missed. This song and “The hole in the ground” are guaranteed to put a smile on your face as did the wonderful Bernard Cribbins himself with his acting and narration. His voice was everywhere in my childhood, even as BT’s Buzby the bird! I’ll never forget all the great TV and film work and certainly not his catchy songs. It’s no exaggeration to call him a great British national treasure. Sadly gone but never forgotten. Thank you Bernard for so many lovely memories. RIP.

I'm here to pay tribute to the wonderful Bernard Cribbens. Another little piece of my childhood slips away...😞
what a loss, he will be remembered as SIR Bernard Cribbins in my mind, such a man of many many talents and never heard a bad word said about him ever
Oh, and my 8 year old daughter loves it too! 6 cups of tea in just over 2 minutes...classic!
