    your workflow is amazing! for those who had an issue where the ends of the arms and legs became thin and squished, you need to rotate the whole model 180 degrees. sometimes the VRM plugin imports the model in the wrong direction and it makes the mixamo control rig place bones invertedly.

    REALLY HELPFUL! Thank you! The only thing I had to change was working around the current Adobe Mixamo addon, as the one on the official site doesn't seem to be updated to 4.0. Thankfully, someone posted an updated version somewhere on quora lol

    Hey I have had a very strange problem where it did not work at all. However when I investigated it, it turned out that the bones in the mixamo animation that I downloaded were called "mixamorig2:xxxx" instead of "mixamorig:xxxx". Then I went and changed your script by changing mixamorig to mixamorig2 everywhere and then re:zipped it & installed - and strangely that fixed the problem. I am an absolute beginnger with blender and mixamo so I do not know much about how and why its strange like this, just wanted to let you and anyone having the same issue know.

    i followed your tutorial and everything works great except for when i use the Hip Controller to move around the torso, parts of the head stay in place, while everything else moves around? Has anyone else had this issue?

    I followed the steps to the letter, but when I select a hand to move it does not move. in fact only the hair follows the direction where I'm dragging it. how do I solve it ???

    i assume bones got renamed but not the weights which shouldn't happen so idk. that's shouldn't happen all the time tho maybe retry it

    you have pretty much full control over how the hair rig ends up in vroid's hair bounce settings so i suggest just sticking with that as for the clothes you can see in my other video that i just use surface rig add-on to quickly make a crude rig it's not the best but it works. you can of course take your to polish it

    What version of blender are you using in the video? I use the Blender 4.1 controller rig on the arm to the top and there are lots of errors

    it's 3.3 in this. i don't have much problems 4 tho so might be cause you're using vrm 1.0 instead of 0.0 or something

    when you export there's an option to export either 0.0 or 1.0 i always use 0.0

    Yo weird question, I had to reinstall my Windows drive and set blender back up. When I use the Mixamo plugin, all my character's hair bones disappear now when previously I was able to convert to a Mixamo rig and the hair bones would stay. Is this a result of the updated for 4.0 Mixamo plugin in the description, or is this something else like using 4.1 and that's not supported? I was applying spring bones to the hair bones to save time manually animating the hair during walk cycles and now it's all stiff lol. Thanks!

    @@ArtificialLight Yeah, after using the Mixamo Add On to convert the standard Vroid rig to a Mixamo rig, the hair bones disappear. This didn't used to happen with a previous version, and I actually just went back to Blender 3.6 and used the old Add On version and the hair bones stayed. I then exported the 3.6 converted Mixamo rig and imported it to my 4.1 project and swapped the armatures lmao. I'll check the bone layers after running the 4.1 add on and see if I just didn't see them get sorted elsewhere. Thanks!

    Thank you for this! Extremely novice question here, but how did you select only the circle at 0:37? Clicking on it, without or with shift, alt, or ctrl doesnt work, it just selects the whole model,, EDIT; also, when I click on 'Bone Properties,' to follow the step at 0:40, I don't see anything there..

    assuming you're exporting it for game engine or something i think gltf works it's in format options when you export glb

    @@ArtificialLight I've done that and it still does not export with textures. Also, do you have an email I can send the picture to of what the models hips look like after retargeting. Maybe you can help me with that After further testing it appears that the vrm shader in its format does not get exported from blender properly, but when I import the VRM as a a .glb file and then export it again, all of the materials and textures remain, but I cannot do the retargeting process with the .glb file. Any suggestions?

    Same problem for me as well. The only fix I found is to manually add each material inside your game engine. It's very tedious and annoying but it works that way to get the textures, when importing the .vrm check the box "extract texture images into the folder"

    @@itslilsalami You use Unity as your game engine? The uniVRM stuff does the material automatically. You can upload the vrm file to mixamo also and use the animations from there in unity. I was struggling with this process because the exporting didn't work with AR

    mixamo add-on isn't updated for blender 4 yet so you're just gonna have to do it in 3.9... you can then save the file and open it in 4 tho

    cats is the same it only works in versions around 2.6. there's a work around but i wouldn't recommend it. I don't use it anymore and just do all that stuff manually you can find that in my other video

    remove skin masks before exporting just go to cloth texture> skin mask and make the whole thing white

    Can you explain what you do exactly when you alter the custom rig? Is it enough to just flatten it so that the circles are straight? Other than that, it seems to work fine but I'm not sure what the alterations do to make it work

    i've got a quick question, you adjusted the controllers of the rig so that they were straight (0:43) but when i did it, it messed with the interpolation because the pivot axis was not aligned. so for ex: if i make the my character turn 90 degrees on z axis, my character would bug out and kinda arc over and not turn smoothly. I wonder if you also have this problem. Right now I'm trying to fix it by changing the control rig through 'edit control shape' in the mixamo add-on menu, its under 'create control rig' instead of changing the orientation through the bone properties. I will edit if that fixes the problem. edit: it didn't work

    that most be something else changing custom shape doesn't really effect the bones. and no i never had that problem. i didn't use 'edit control shape' here because it doesn't work for me

    you should be able to retarget any animation to this with rokoko add-on. i haven't tried it myself but i see no reason why it wouldn't work

    if you mean actual rig with weighted bones and shiz then that'll be kind of a pain to set up. vroid has bunch of shape keys for expressions which is what i and up using most of the time

    hi so i was following this tutorial and thought i fixed everything with my vroid model, but everytime i import a mixamo animation into blender and apply the animation to my model the models hips/lower body dont animate correctly. i dont know how to fix it can someone help please.

    what exactly is happening can you describe it? some people did have trouble with older vroid models. you can compare the bone roll with the mixamo armature and make sure it matches

    @@ArtificialLight static poses work fine, but when i import a mixamo animation and apply it to my model, the hips dont move and the legs move weirdly. i just made the model a couple days ago so i dont think its old.

    ayy don't worry about it! and yes that's just inevitable you'll have to fix them yourself. you can try uploading the character to mixamo and downloading that animation but i doubt it'll help much

    Do you know if it is possible to have more than one animation with this method? I can't seem to figure it out. Each time I try to apply animation to control rig it just overwrites the previous animation with the new one? Sorry I am a nooby scrub with Blender ;_;

    yeah look up stuff about action editor. you can make a new action for every animation you need and once have all the animations you need, you can use NLA editor to mix them together. it's a bit tricky figure out tho. you can also just try copy pasting keyframes. that works for me sometimess

    if it's just the animations you want you can easily retarget them to any model with stuff like Rokoko add-on. but if you want to make a mixamo control rig then, i think as long as the bone names and roll matches with the mixamo armature it'll work. or just remove the armature and use mixamo's auto-rigger ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

    just looked it up and apparently it's just not possible... you can try bakeing the animation for one character and add spring bone to another. but i suggest trying other add-ons like 1- Bone-Dynamics lite this i think works pretty similarly to spring bone but kinda janky with collisions sometimes 2- Gravity Collider Bone Physics Plug-in this uses simple cloth sims so it's pretty good if you're familiar with blenders cloth sim

    @@ArtificialLight hello, i tried bone dynamics and works well :) Gravity collider works well to but when i use in more that one character it bugs.. I will keep Bone dynamics :)

    hi not sure if you will respond I followed the tutorial but right at the start I cant move anything? it just is a select box? i tried making sure I did exactly what you did, am on pose mode and everything but i cant move my model at all. I am sure im just being dumb

    Hey dude I need some help with this. I've been trying to use your add on but everytime I hit the Rename and Roll button I get this error that says something like "bpy prop collection ke: mixamorigleft shoulder not found" and I can't convert it into the mixamo rig. Im using Blender Version 3.3 if that helps.

    left shoulder bone wasn't found so i assume either it didn't get renamed for whatever reason or your character straight up doesn't have it. that shouldn't happen tho normally it should just ignore it so idk what happened. check if your character has shoulder bone and if it does try manually renaming it

    you still gotta use the mixamo add-on my add-on. there's no reaction cause my add-on just changes bone names and roll

    you mean like a face controller? then you can try this kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3igmaaxgsbKppc.html you just have to download his model from description and copy paste all the drivers from that model to yours and attench the controller to your model

    Your tutorial and addon are amazing! Just one issue, I'm having trouble applying mixamo animations to my control rig. I've tried multiple times, and every time for some reason it ends up twisting the head and torso backwards

    @@ArtificialLight It seems your Bocchi model works perfectly fine. Only my models get twisted... I noticed some differences in our armatures, for example your spine bones have a Roll of 0 degrees, while my spine bones have a roll of 180 or -180. I tried changing my spine rolls to 0 degrees like yours, and that fixed the twisting! But it also made the stomach get pushed down into the pelvis 🤔

    @@ArtificialLight Yeah your addon seems to be working fine, my model only twists backwards when I try to apply a mixamo animation to it. As for my model, I made it like, a day or two ago

    Update: Ok after some more tests it looks like I WAS using an old model, or, at the very least, the model that I was using was incompatible or something. I made a brand new default vroid model and it worked just fine. Though, I think I should also note that when I imported the model with clothing such as a shirt, the mixamo rigger couldn't rig properly. This could be because the shirt has extra bones that the mixamo rig doesn't know what to do with. Regardless, my model is supposed to be shirtless so it doesn't bother me, just thought I should mention it

    @@ArtificialLight nice As I said I have an idea for a video I will try to describe it When you go to vroid studio And open camera mode And choose pose and make your custom pose If u move the model head The hair moves in really stylish way like anime I think it is more than just a spring add to the hair 🤔 Do you think you can replicate that in blender My description wasn't clear so I thought of recording a video if you didn't understand what I mean 🤔
