Rig Rundown - Waddy Wachtel

Музыка

Article & photos: bit.ly/WaddyWachtelRR
Unless you’ve been raised in a cave with your fingers in your ears and no electricity, you’ve heard Waddy Wachtel. He’s recorded and toured with Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, Joe Walsh, Bob Dylan, The Everly Brothers, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, James Taylor and pretty much every other great artist of the ’70s and ’80s. Wachtel met with Premier Guitar’s John Bohlinger before the sold-out Stevie Nicks show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena where he gave the story behind some of rock’s most listened-to guitars.
Waddy’s 1960 Gibson Les Paul may be one of the most recorded guitars in history. After some neck breaks and road abuse, he retired the historic guitar. To take its place, Gibson built the Collector’s Choice #14 1960 Les Paul aka “Waddy Wachtel Burst”-a nearly identical replica of the famous axe.

I met Waddy in Middletown NY. at a tire shop, 6 of us were stranded there for hours, We listened to him for hours, the time flew by, he had the greatest stories to tell, he should have his own KZread channel, he has such a sharp memory, and an awesome guy to listen to.It's like listening to interviews with the Beatles, such great stories,.

@@kevinkuhagen1272 I was reading the comments here ; I didn't know Waddy & Russ Kunkel, plus David Lindley, played on the Church's Starfish album. Then there's The Wrecking Crew that wrote and played on a number of albums . _copy&pasted_ The Wrecking Crew was a loose collective of session musicians based in Los Angeles whose services were employed for thousands of studio recordings in the 1960s and 1970s, including several hundred Top 40 hits. The musicians were not publicly recognized in their era, but were viewed with reverence by industry insiders. Then there's The Brill Building of NYC. The R&R HoF should have a section dedicated to these to times and locations. They're are some of the backbones of modern music and should have their own wing .

Love this guy! What a LEGEND! One of the LAST true old school SESSION players from the day. He shows up at the STUDIO...he dont even know whats gonna be todays job?...at the end of the day...before lunch is finished..hes got your KEEPER guitar track for your record! Peice a cake! Miller time ! And hes played with so many of the GREATS! His shredding is on so many ALBUMS ya wouldnt think. A hired gun letting other people take the credit..just give him his commission!...they would have to find musicians who could copy his stuff for tours when he didnt tour with em. I didnt know that Wherewolves of London solo was HIM..but it figures.

It's interesting. I'm 54, American guitarist, started playing around 1977, played in mostly bar bands doing covers of EVERYTHING over the decades, and I've never heard of Waddy Wachtel. Don't know how I missed this fella.
