Rig Rundown: Train
Музыка
Full Rig Details: bit.ly/TrainRigRundown
After a five-year break in studio releases, Train came roaring back this year with AM Gold and a tour with dates stretching into 2023 that’s delivering their new songs and a sampling of the group’s 28 charting singles from their nearly 30-year history. PG’s John Bohlinger stopped in on the band’s two guitar players, Jerry Becker and Taylor Locke, and bassist Hector Maldonado, before their June 21 show at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater. They displayed the big bevy of instruments they use to recreate the Train sound live.
PS: Special thanks to techs Wayne Davis and Stephen Ferrera-Grand for help running down the rigs.

Damn one of the best RRs ever. Taylor seems a great guy and knows his stuff.
Always happy when the bassists share their gear
Has to be one of the best interviews, Train guys know there stuff & love their gear…very obvious. Cheers!
Excellent episode. Always enjoyable when the players actually know their shit in geek level detail. Love it.
Killer rig run down! Glad they have Hector on here too going over his bass rig. He's an amazing guitar player as well.
This is one great rig rundown! The guys know their stuff.
I’m glad Taylor got a rig rundown. Love watching his studio tour with Warren Huart - produce like a pro

Been walking down a Train man’s trail going to play hey soul sister and wake up in jail 🎶
For "Hey Soul Sister", former Train guitarist Jimmy Stafford came up with the unique non-standard tuning. Co-writer Espen Lind came up with the idea of using a ukulele on the song. Its in the key of E but instead of the ukulele being tuned to the standard g-C-E-A it is tuned A-C-E-A and using a low G string. My late mom purchased the Fender "Jimmy Stafford Signature" all Koa wood Tenor ukulele for my 44th birthday to add to my collection when the song came out. The song contributed to me picking up the ukulele again after i had put it away for 20+ years.

Since Jimmy left we went back to a closer tuning to standard uke but now its ECEA. No low g string. That way we can pickup any uke, tune one string and start playing.
This guy is great! So much knowledge 🤘
what a great bunch of gentlemen. Great review and rundown.
Awesome rundown! You can tell these guys are passionate about their gear. I love that!!
Taylor is super well-spoken and this made for a great conversation.
I saw train in Oklahoma, Cheyenne Arapaho drum circle an hour before the show. Giant storm behind the outdoor show slowly creeping up, maybe some mushrooms. GREAT SHOW!!

@@spieglass3211 I mean, I’m sure there have been some people that didn’t seem as knowledgeable during these (like one example I can think of was from the Avenged Sevenfold Rig Rundown, Zacky’s tech knew what he was talking about but Syn and Johnny’s just seemed kinda out of it)
I caught a tour where Hector’s brother played guitar- guy was a killer! Pat surrounds himself with great musicians. Also Trains Led Zep stuff (album too) shows these guys are the real thing. Great interview
What a cool bunch of down to earth dudes, great rundown!
Another great rig rundown .. well done John ......

Where's the Hey Soul Squire??
Best rundown yet 🤘
Pat Finnerty !
I have that same Gretsch resonator I love it, super cool to see it on a RR I’ve never seen another one
This cat's got some really nice guitars.
Without Scott Underwood and Jimmy Stanford, it’s not Train, it’s the Pat Monahan karaoke.
Not finished it yet but gosh I love this one so much. My favorite in a long time
So Very Cool Episode from a very Cool Band. Thankyou
Little Stinkers
The ES339 has the same laminated top and back as the ES335 - it’s the CS336 that has the carved solid top, and the back carved out of solid wood too. I only know this because I hunted for a Les Paul I liked for many years and invariably ended up liking ES339s more… then one day went looking to buy a good ES339 and ended up really liking the CS336. Still have and love mine!
That SG Classic is an awesome instrument. I’ll never get rid of mine.
I saw Train in Cincinnati this summer and was absolutely blown away. Taylor and Jerry are complete pro's! I did not know I was a Train fan, and left there a believer. I've been to hundreds of concerts over the past 30+ years and this was one of the best. They played all the hits and some of the most bad ass covers mixed in. If you have a chance go check them out. Taylor and Jerry (and the entire band / tour) thank you! Rock -n- Roll, Dream On!
Love seeing artists so exited to be in #rigrundown 😁
This guys on top of things.
Nice 👍 my favorite host of this series
How did I get to Pat Finnerty's channel?
it's so cool to see epi's are getn out there live....dollar for dollar, epi's are getting as good if not better money for value...I have bought more epi's over the last 2 years than any other brand....20 mins in setup, good as gold
He make a great case for the Line 6 HX Stomp. They have the history of effects in that pedal, it helps to keep it simple. It’s consistent from venue to venue, because it’s digital, settings can be stored and saved and shared. Its repeatable.
SO IT'S COME TO THIS
Another "premier" guitar video by big John - appreciated here in Portland. The 1973 double-cut Special reminded me of one I had, which had a bridge humbucker replacing the P-90. Unfortunately it had a very thin neck, too thin for me, the thinnest neck on any Gibson I've played - so I let it go. I once had a beautiful 1957 stratocaster reissue, but it's "V neck" was just too thin, so Fender did it too, but some players would love it, especially those with small hands, but I had to let it go. Love the videos here, thanks man!
I have a customized AC4 with a 10" Weber Blue Pup, and that does the trick. Ported cabinet, wadding, circuit upgrades and man......

"who doesn't love Train" Pat Finnerty
@John Bohlinger Yeah, my Strat weighs 7lbs + 1Cheesburger, my Tele weighs 8lbs + 1Cheesburger but my Les Paul weighs about a forklift pallet of Cheesburgers! Lol! (10lbs 8ozs as I recall) so I have two sheepskin seatbelt pads on the strap to keep it from injuring me further! Thanks for this one, it was a real pleasure.
Great rundown. I got the Gretch 1906 short scale guitar for my kid. It sounds great. These guys should consider the Taylor T5Z. I have one and it can go from acoustic to metal head. Very versatile and sounds fantastic.
Stop the Train
I long ago devised a Rig Run Down drinking game: whenever the presenter uses the phrases ‘high miles’ or ‘high mileage’I take a swig. Try it!
What year are those pants?…..Cool! #StopTheTrain
Cool 👍🤟 please give me one that Gibson 😁
@patfinnerty dude i blame you for making me watch this
So...who makes that strap with the roses on the goldtop? I've seen Warren Haynes use a very similar one. Would love to find one!
Pat Finnerty, where you at bro? We need your sharp9 chord. Beato.
Goldtops...mmmmmm 🎸

Maybe consider sharing presets for rig rundowns that are digitally modeled? You could have a link below!

Private shows. Oh, weddings.
Thought the 339 was Maple/Poplar/Maple just like a 335. I think the smaller body model that is solid/carved is a 336
#StopTheTrain

hey soul sister..... BARF! lol
Wow. Marty McFly
I really don’t understand the fascination and price increase in norlin era customs. They’re 10lbs +, frets are horrible but yes they do look cool. I’ll take any modern custom shop over those.
Taylor, dude, you’re almost 38 and I can see the grey in your beard… time to embrace the grey, bro! You should tell your lead singer too…
RHCP 2022 rig run down?
Is that true about the ES-339, i.e., carved top and bottom? Isn’t that the 336??
Taylor looks like and talks about gear the same way as Josh Scott and I am confused.
I really love the line 6 HX effects and everything it does but it suck the tone. I wonder if it was a setting I had wrong. I might have to revisit the Hx because it made life easy. There are a couple KZread videos that show it sucks the tone.
I have a bunch of pedals but since I got my modelers the pedals are collecting dust.
B25
Funny how he plugs in every guitar and doesn't play it.
another Gretsch, like a 6120, would have sounded just as good/if not better for the acoustic parts. IMHO
pls do this with john frusciante plsss
lol, so jimmy stafford played a cheap telecaster with a piezo pickup, really i was under the impression it was a custom one off benedict guitar............kids🙄
We are going down the rabbit hole with Line 6 & modeling units. *sigh*
A young Joe Pesci 😀
No sound so bad what's the point of seeing these beautiful instruments without even hearing 10seconds of each ????
please tell me tell there's some other Pat Finnerty fans coming around here... STOP THE TRAIN
They should have hired another bald replacement guitarist
