Rig Rundown: Train

Музыка

Full Rig Details: bit.ly/TrainRigRundown
After a five-year break in studio releases, Train came roaring back this year with AM Gold and a tour with dates stretching into 2023 that’s delivering their new songs and a sampling of the group’s 28 charting singles from their nearly 30-year history. PG’s John Bohlinger stopped in on the band’s two guitar players, Jerry Becker and Taylor Locke, and bassist Hector Maldonado, before their June 21 show at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater. They displayed the big bevy of instruments they use to recreate the Train sound live.
PS: Special thanks to techs Wayne Davis and Stephen Ferrera-Grand for help running down the rigs.

  • @TroyNaumu808

    For "Hey Soul Sister", former Train guitarist Jimmy Stafford came up with the unique non-standard tuning. Co-writer Espen Lind came up with the idea of using a ukulele on the song. Its in the key of E but instead of the ukulele being tuned to the standard g-C-E-A it is tuned A-C-E-A and using a low G string. My late mom purchased the Fender "Jimmy Stafford Signature" all Koa wood Tenor ukulele for my 44th birthday to add to my collection when the song came out. The song contributed to me picking up the ukulele again after i had put it away for 20+ years.

  • @Hecstasy

    @Hecstasy

    Since Jimmy left we went back to a closer tuning to standard uke but now its ECEA. No low g string. That way we can pickup any uke, tune one string and start playing.

    The ES339 has the same laminated top and back as the ES335 - it’s the CS336 that has the carved solid top, and the back carved out of solid wood too. I only know this because I hunted for a Les Paul I liked for many years and invariably ended up liking ES339s more… then one day went looking to buy a good ES339 and ended up really liking the CS336. Still have and love mine!

    I saw Train in Cincinnati this summer and was absolutely blown away. Taylor and Jerry are complete pro's! I did not know I was a Train fan, and left there a believer. I've been to hundreds of concerts over the past 30+ years and this was one of the best. They played all the hits and some of the most bad ass covers mixed in. If you have a chance go check them out. Taylor and Jerry (and the entire band / tour) thank you! Rock -n- Roll, Dream On!

    He make a great case for the Line 6 HX Stomp. They have the history of effects in that pedal, it helps to keep it simple. It’s consistent from venue to venue, because it’s digital, settings can be stored and saved and shared. Its repeatable.

    Another "premier" guitar video by big John - appreciated here in Portland. The 1973 double-cut Special reminded me of one I had, which had a bridge humbucker replacing the P-90. Unfortunately it had a very thin neck, too thin for me, the thinnest neck on any Gibson I've played - so I let it go. I once had a beautiful 1957 stratocaster reissue, but it's "V neck" was just too thin, so Fender did it too, but some players would love it, especially those with small hands, but I had to let it go. Love the videos here, thanks man!
