On the 62 S.G. of course, T.M. was one the major designers of the Les Paul's along with other Gibson lines and instruments.... excellent lineup of Paul's, great interviews... keep up the great work 👍

My favourite is without any doubt the Les Paul Deluxe owned by Adam Granduciel of the War On Drugs (RR November 2014)!

That Howerdel LP; wow, seems like a miracle that endgrain butt joint held up at all (wonder what he used) but design-wise far from "totally wack"; that shallower angle is probably a lot less failure prone than the usual 17 degrees

Huh! I never knew that Pete Frampton's guitar was lost in a plane crash. Amazing story!

while yes les didn’t design the sg body, his name really left the guitar around ‘63 because his 10 year contract with gibson had come to an end and he didn’t wanna resign and bring more negotiation possibilities to him and mary fords divorce that year. very common miss conception

Anyone else thinks Joe Bonomassa sounds like John C Riley when he talks ? I’ll bet he probably listens to the stereo while watching TV because he likes to party. Seriously I’d nodded off and awoke to thinking what’s Dewy Cox doing on a rig run down? Billy Howdrell fixed Gibsons headstock angle and is like I want a Gibson with an epiphone angle on it. They’ll probably build it for him. I’m not an SG guy but that first 61 dude had that looked like he drug it through the ditch was pretty sweet.

That black 68 custom is where it's at I would give my leg for that guitar

JJN really attacks that vibrato. Damn.

My understanding is the red eye les paul has a hotter neck pickup and is also hotter then the bridge when Gibson copied it they put a custombucker in the bridge and BB3 in the neck but it's strange that gibosn put an A5 magnet in the BB3 considering that the Magnet in the original has weakened over time . Unless the A5 mag in the BB3 was degaused .

As you sure know, back then there was just a bin of pickups, no neck/bridge variety.. they just slapped on a guitar whichever came first, and then second one. With HBs you can compensate that with pickup height tweaking.. not so much with P90, other than a shim in bridge position.. on my 98 R4, I have to ride the volume knob all the time to get them in balance.. or get bootique P90s..🙃 with neck underwound.

Marty's right hand looks a heck of a lot like Tony Rice.

ESP Eclipse and many Burny LPC clones still win for me, though. Better quality, more comfortable necks, Floyds. No shoddy wiring, even though I always swap pickups for ones of my choice.

@@Ottophil Poorly done. Dying pots, wires not properly soldered and falling off. Could also mention the lack of shielding for the sake "vintage-ness", but then we'd into the cork sniffing debate leading nowhere.

@@Ottophil Who said I am? Some friends are, for whom I have fixed several new Gibsons. Anyhow, a guitar at this price point shouldn't have problems you usually see on $150 Chinese superstrats. A friend of mine had an 80s MIJ Orville LPC and an another one has a 90s Gibson Flying V - flawless axes. Wish they still were as good.

LOVE me some Gibsons and SG's but those sideways vibratos are JUNK. Hard to stay in tune , have less sustain than regular SG's and if hit that floating mechanism it .barks PAF's are amazing but the vibratos suck. I had a 61 ...

Maybe because there’s no story to tell… because according to Gibson there’s only less than 500 of the 59’ Les Pauls ever made and it seems like every famous guitarist owns one so it leads me to believe that some of those guitars aren’t real 59s or those musicians got fooled into buying an old les paul that they claim it’s a 59

You're not even in the ball park with that comment. Adams Les Paul is only famous because of who owns/plays it. Other than it being Adams, it's not special in any way. It's just a nice, players grade guitar. I love Adam too, but I am not crazy enough to invalidate 10 really special guitars just because of a snub. That's just crazy talk. His original Silverburst is just another Les Paul.

If you are playing a Les, it’s a clear giveaway your just a poser and out of tune. Doing live shows you are okay ,but in a studio they’re garbage. Impossible to keep in tune even under gentle playing conditions. Disgraceful that a complete retune has to be done every 10 minutes, especially for the price. Gibsons are the “Land Rover” of guitars. Some of the highest priced junk ever made. There’s 65 dollar guitars pouring out of China that are far superior to Gibson.
