Rig Rundown - Thrice's Dustin Kensrue and Teppei Teranishi

Dustin Kensrue and Teppei Teranishi of Thrice have a hectic schedule of relentless touring. Luckily, PG’s Perry Bean was able to meet up with the band before their latest Nashville stop at the Cannery Ballroom.
A big part of the Thrice sound comes down to the way Teppei Teranishi and Dustin Kensrue find their own distinct tone. Kensrue has been getting a lot of mileage out of this Nash JM-63 that’s loaded with a Lollar High Wind Imperial Humbucker in the bridge and a Lollar El Rayo Humbucker in the neck. He strings it up with Ernie Ball Cobalt strings (.011-.056). The custom set features these string gauges: .011, .014, .018, .032, .044, .056.
Teppei Teranishi likes it low and rumbly with this Fender Baritone Custom Jaguar (which was renamed the Jaguar Bass VI Custom in 2006).

Fake worn guitars make me want to craw back into my hole. It's a bit like when everyone was buying jeans with pre-made rips in them years ago. It's like wearing huge fake gold chains. It's like going to buy a new car and asking the sales person to go ram it into a few trees to give it some style. Like buying a house then ripping half the siding off cause it looks cool. It's ridiculous.

We're limited to cover bands that tour through Nashville (unless it's AC/DC and the trip to Atlanta was clearly worth it). Please send any suggestions to info@premierguitar.com - and just for the record, Thrice has put out 9 albums since 2000 and just wrapped a sold-out reunion tour in the U.S. We know that everyone won't know, appreciate, or even enjoy every band we cover, but our goal is to possibly introduce our fans/readers to new music/bands that they might not hear of otherwise. Thanks for checking out our Rig Rundowns! Best, -PG Staff
