Rig Rundown - Testament’s Alex Skolnick, Eric Peterson & Steve DiGiorgio [2015]

Музыка

Article and photos: bit.ly/TestamentRR
Premier Guitar met with Eric Peterson, Alex Skolnick, and Steve DiGiorgio before Testament’s April 22, 2015, show at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville to get the scoop on what gear the Bay Area thrashers rely on for maximum oomph and practicality.
Alex Skolnick’s Gear
Alex Skolnick tours exclusively with his new ESP signature models, which feature splittable Seymour Duncan humbuckers, TonePros bridge and tailpiece, 22XJ frets, and a 12" fretboard radius.
Amps
Skolnick runs his 120-watt signature Budda AS Preceptor head into a matching Budda 4x12 cab. For gigs abroad that require smaller rigs, he uses a Kemper Profiler PowerHead.
Effects
Skolnick’s guitar signal first hits a Boss TU3 tuner, then runs into a Jam Pedals TubeDreamer 88, a Tone Concepts Distillery, a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, a Dunlop EVH Phase 90, and then into either a Boss DD-20 or a Rocktron Reaction digital delay patched through the amp’s effects loop. When using his Kemper, Skolnick changes presets with a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller.

I met Eric Peterson in 97 or 98 delivering his mail I told him I grew up a Testament fan and saw a lot of their shows in San Francisco and he gave me a cool looking poster and he was really nice, awesome day it was for me

I really liked this rig rundown, these guys are minimalist and efficient. I relate to Alex's approach to his sound and how it dictates what gear he needs. Too many musicians forget that after a point the gear is more tool than toy. This rundown may not have been as flashy as some others, but I really enjoyed the spartan approach. Thanks PG!

+tonellojohn the fact that you think knowing the difference between 'good Metallica' and 'bad Metallica' is a 'bad' thing, shows that you probably thought the 'black album' was 1)their first album, and/or 2) good... and therefore completely invalidates any and all opinions you may have now or in the future. Buh'bye!

The only good Metallica was BEFORE the album Metallica aka " The Black Album " Which sucked and after hearing that disc it became a frisbee, The last of the " Good " Metallica was And Justice For All and before....Metallica are just pop metal sellouts now, Saw them at the Big 4 in 2011 at the Polo Grounds in Indio CA. We left after they played Orion, People were walking out disgusted at James talking like a fuckin' fruit cake to the crowd....Comical really....

Does anyone know what amps, pedals, settings, etc. Eric and Alex were using on the first "Legacy" album? That tone on that album is prolly the most scooped "hollowed out / metallic" thrash tone I've ever heard. I'd love to know what the trick was to get that sound. In the MTV video, it's showing Marshall heads, but not sure if that's what they were using. Now, albeit, I've seen early footage of their live shows during 1987/88, live in Eindhoven, etc. and it looks like Marshall JCM 900 heads and standard 1960-A/B Lead cabs, but there's just too much gain, hollow, and scoop for it that tone to JUST be a stock JCM900. Anyways, let me know guys! Thanks in advance!

Perry is actually one of my favourite interviewers right now, but he does seem oddly pissed off in this vid. I wonder what's up.
