Rig Rundown - Intronaut

Enter to win Dunable Slugwolf pickups courtesy of Intronaut: www.premierguitar.com/blogs/4/...
Premier Guitar hung with cerebral metalheads Sacha Dunable, Dave Timnick, and Joe Lester of Intronaut before their Nashville gig at The End. These vinyl-printing, polyrhythmic-playing, hard-touring Californians roll with one-off custom instruments and plenty of paint-pealing power.
Sacha Dunable builds his one-of-a-kind guitars that are handcarved and equipped with pickups Sacha built from scratch and are handwound. His current No. #1 is this Yeti model and is loaded with Dunable Slugwolf pickups.
Dave Timnick now knows it’s good to be in a band with a guitar builder as his current main ride is a Dunable Yeti with a swamp ash body and Dunable Slugwolf pickups.
Joe Lester tours with a single bass, his 2013 Zon Legacy Elite 5-string fretless built to his specifications. Those specs include a 35" scale, 19 mm string spacing, mahogany body, bocóte (Mexican rosewood) top, carbon fiber composite neck, phenowood fingerboard with urethane finish, Aguilar OBP-3 onboard preamp, and EMG 40CSX soapbar pickups. The Zon is strung with Dunlop Super Brights .040-.120.

Intronaut is legendary. The band doesn't get enough recognition. The fact that Sacha also builds his own guitars isn't anything less than impressive.

Great rig rundown. I hope PG realizes how much John Bolinger has done for them, not only in demos but in knowledge and experience. He asks the right questions with an understanding of a gigging musician. Good stuff.

This video is going right to my favorites. Not only because it is a *GREAT* example of pedalboard setup with a few tricks to keep you interested and knowledgeable (for example, Dave puts his boost at the end of the chain) and musicianship (Dunable guitars are amazing!), but also because John Bollinger is a fantastic interviewer. His questions are intuitive and fresh, and they are innovative enough to keep the interview interesting musically- it actually makes a lot of things make more sense. For example, I had been having a lot of issues figuring out how to run multiple pedals to one channel and sanctioning different pedals for different "sub-channels" and outlets. Sacha's pedalboard fixes that. I had also as a musician who has taken up bass on my own time, been looking for a bass head that has the amp architecture of a warm tube-driven sound with all the characteristics of something that will cut through with two extremely heavy 7 and 8-string guitars (for my band specifically), and it seems the Aguilar might be a good example of that. I also found that John and Joe's conversation about a tone that sounds brash in isolation but sits perfectly in a mix, also explains a lot of joy forthcomings about bass as an instrument in a studio where at times my tone would be complete ass in isolation yet it cuts right through in our songs (also tuned to Drop B). But now, my tone is such that it cuts through in both terms, it is very aggressive and stocky, rash you could say, but in reality it is very warm and versatile and smooth, though not too smooth because I am still playing metal. Joe also talks about the b7k Ultra, in a way that allows him to color his tone with more character but without saturating it with drive, which is good on the newer pedal as the two are separate- something that actually made me want the b7Ku instead of the regular b7k. So this interview was actually so good, that it solved a lot of my main current issues on stage and in-studio, without skipping a beat or even having been made to do so. Isn't that such a coincidence? Intronaut is also criminally underrated, and I can't wait for their next album. Much love, thanks Premier Guitar!

Joe Lester is one of the most interesting bassists in metal and progressive music. He plays around timmick and dunable without being super Billy Sheehan busy. It’s really quite extraordinary actually the tones he’s able to get. Intronaut sounds so psychedelically awesome and he’s a big reason for it. Ohh and I want one of those yeti’s. Such sick looking and sounding guitars.
