Rig an Offshore Planer Board W/Sams Pro Release
Спорт
@RussellsFishingTech talks about how to rig an offshore planer board with a Sams pro release. Sams Pro Release allows you to release the front part of the board which makes it so you dont have to fight the planer board and the fish.

Would this work for 10 lb mono for walleye trolling? Thanks for these videos!
Never saw this explained so simply. Was size boards for copper? Would you wrap the backing braid-not the copper? Where can I purchase the releases? Thank you
Would the largest board that Off Shore puts out be able to handle 4 to 6oz inline weights for salmon? If so, what rods would you recommend for those larger boards? Thanks!
I see you put a ring on the Zams release. Does this help because mine don't always release. Mine are mounted to my bracket solid.
when you use the OR-16 clip on the back of the board (with braid) with a tattle flag, do you wrap the clip a few times? I had a black offshore snapper release on the back of my board connected to the flag and the tension of my lure would pull the slack out of the board rendering the tattle flag useless. I ended up switching to dreamwever ninja walleye boards, but trying to reel (swim) my outside board around my inside board when I have a fish on is a pain and most times I have to reel in my inside board, which I don't like doing. So I'm thinking of switching back to my church walleye boards with the sam's pro so I can just release the outide board and bring it to the back of the boat. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I fish for Walleye in the central basin of lake erie.
How much weight can the walleye boards reliably tow? Speaking of towing, ever lose a board when a big king starts towing it around?!
Going through the gear this time of year and prepping for next season. Saw this video in its original iteration and gave it a try. Replaced all my church boards with this setup and it is my favorite way to run boards by far. One question I have with this setup is that I tend to get boards that dive under the water especially with bigger fish. Is this a rigging issue that I'm having? Have you ever tried putting a swivel on the rear OR-16 release allowing it to spin around so it doesn't grab water? Or is this more an issue with boat control (ie I should slow down or give line to the fish until the board surfaces)? Any thoughts or tips on this issue...

That’s becusee the church boards don’t have enough foam in them and why I prefer the offshores

I have switched over to all offshores and it still happens. Any other tips?
Is the orientation of the Sam's Pro release important (whether it flips down or up when it releases)? Also, I have Church Walleye and TX44 boards. Wondering if they could be retro fitted to use the Sam's Pro on the tow arm and an OR16 added to the back just on the pin or install an eye screw like the Off Shores have?

Yes the arm needs to open toward the front of the board. Yes you can use a split ring on front and back to make them work
Does it make a difference if you have it on a ring or screwed in to the black plastic arm
I have used the orange offshore clips to allow for the release like this. However, this release seems better especially being able to control how much pressure it takes to release. Have you used the orange offshore clips for comparison to these?

These are way better. You can control the tension based on wave conditions and weight pulled behind the board
I see Off Shore is selling this Sam's Pro release in a kit with the option to use the split ring or fix it to the bracket with an included lock nut. Is one way better than the other?

I prefer the split ring
Must braid be used with the Sam's Pro Release or will mono also work? I only use mono with planer boards.

Mono works
In the setup you have with a fixed rear clip it appears that you would need to pop the release with the rod when a fish was on. Would it be better to have the rear clip on a spring and the fish to pop the front release?

You can set the front release tension to how u want it
How do you attach them to your boards?I thought I saw a split ring??

@@RussellsFishingTech do you prefer a certain size?
why not just use an offshore orange release in front? thats what I do.
@RussellsFishingTech

Not nearly as versatile. The Sam’s pro allows u to adjust the release pressure the orange one doesn’t
Why don't any of you Michigan guys run the big boards that's pretty much all anyone uses on Ontario.

Some guys do and there is a time and place for them but not when u want to spread your lines out. For example if you want to run a 100,200,300 copper you can’t do that effectively with big boards

Is there an effective way to run deep lines off the big boards (with a mast setup), say 45'- 50'? For instance running 3-5 colors of lead with a 4oz snap weight. Would the big boards pull 2 of these setups per side? Is there a release that will hold that much tension and still release when needed? Thanks!

@@TW14137 I run the Amish outfitters boards, and I can pull three long coppers per side. As far as releases go, Scotty PowerGrip releases work great.
