*correction… I mentioned the 30-30 having 30 grains of black powder. I meant smokeless powder. I also said 22 Remington, I meant 22 Creedmoor. lol, good grief.

My very first rifle was a custom built Sako 471 action/ Shilen barrel in .222. Took my first deer with it at 5 years old, sitting on my dads knee. i can't even begin to count how many women and young kids learned to shoot with this rifle, or how many tons of deer meat this little rifle has put in the cooler. i currently still use this gun, almost 50 years later still wearing the same Leupold 4X scope from day one. Although, I do currently own 2 .222's now. A limited run Browning micro medallion, and a Howa 1500 mini action. All shoot tiny less than to 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards. Accurate is an understatement! If I had to choose only one cartridge to shoot the rest of my life, this would be my first and only choice. But, alas, I live in a world where I don't have to make that choice. Sweet Pea always comes out to shine quite often though!

I once shot a 222 Mag at a bench shoot late 70’s. It was a friend’s rig and the trigger was so light it wouldn’t engage half the time. When I did manage to get five shots of in the allotted time there was always a flier. I told him and the guys there about that thinking it was me as I never shot that rifle before. He said next round when you get that flier put that case upside down in the box. We reloaded those same cases between rounds. I showed him which one it was and he smashed the case in an arbor press and said to use one of the spotter rounds. I was so far behind at that point in the 100 yard match I finished 14/14 dead last. The guy to my left had all the new fancy state of the art stuff to shoot and told me that had been his rifle and was shot out. At 200 yards I finished 9/14 with a shot out 222mag against some of the best shooters and gear on the west coast. One of the guys I beat was the guy who said the rifle was shot out. Lesson take away. Mark your cases that are fliers. It could be you but it might just be a case.

+ I inherited a 222 I’ve plinked with it a bit I did get some dies and brass for it awhile back Looking forward to load for it

I have a Remington 700 bdl in a 222 that I bought back in the early 1990’s it shoots pretty good with 50 grain bullets I got it to clover leaf at 100 yards and my uncle always shot 222 from when it was first introduced in 1950 he had a sako L 61 action that he had re-barreled it twice after shooting out the original barrel before he had died it was his favorite and almost shot it exclusively

I have a Savage 340 B in 222 Remington. It originally had a Weaver 3/4 side mount scope which I still have but now has an adapter with a 3-9 by 38 scope. I hand load and it is a fantastic shooter.

Staying with the .222 bases cartridges, the .221 Remington Fireball gives greater barrel life, less recoil and maximizes efficiency, all while still being extremely accurate. Some of the 22 Hornets I've had seemed to struggle with the accuracy part.

The Triple Deuce is far from being a "dead cartridge" in France and you can find it in almost any French gunshop. Of course it is mostly considered a varmint hunting cartridge here so that the usual bullet will be a soft point one and will weigh either 50 or 55 gr, but FMJ ammo is also available for shooters. I have a straight pull AR-15 platform in .222 Rem (illustrated on my channel) and it is one of the most enjoyable guns to shoot that I have at home. The .222 Rem being among the cheapest centerfire ammo you can find on the French market, I don't reload, which, in turn, affects the accuracy of my rifle, as I only shoot those cheap factory-made cartridges that I buy at the sports store. That said, accuracy is absolutely correct at 100 m, but surely I would get much tighter groups with match ammunition.

yo j'ai un AR-15 schmeisser straight pull moi aussi en 222 et oui très précis enfin je sais pas ce que tu a comme arme mais même pas besoin de développement de charge honnêtement enfin moi en tout cas ca groupe très très bien avec des ppu 50 grain soft point les moins chères c'est vraiment nickel :)

@@Salty-Frenchy j'ai une Schmeisser SP15 et j'utilise généralement des Solognac de chez Décath : c'est me semble-t-il la même que la S&B FMJ, mais commercialisée sous la marque de Décathlon. Elle groupe très très bien à 50 m mais les groupements s'élargissent à 100 m, tout en restant "corrects", on va dire.

222 is such a sweet caliber! I just bought a Tikka T3x Hunter with factory sights. So nice to shoot.

Thank you for this video about this nice and accurate cartridge as you said. I shoot it with a CZ 527 varmint. Lapua case, 52 grs HP Hornady and Vihtavuori N130 powder. At 100 meters, the result is an 0.480 height - 0.261 width MOA - group with a scope without any wind. Nearly boring ;) With a diopter, it begins a little more tricky. Next try, 200 meters. Greetings from France.

"222 Rem " is a handloaders dream. The thing that really hurt it was all the cheap 5.56 brass and surplus ammo, and once that ball started rolling it never stopped. Nice review of a "classic cartridge".

When Mike walker designed the triple duece he designed it with 50 grain bullets in mind. So a lot of rifle will shoot dime size groups while 55 grain may shoot nickle size to quarter. I also remember hearing that it had the same dimensions as a 50 bmg just scaled down! Which the 30-06 was the same when designed a scaled down 50 bmg! 50 bmg>30-06>222rem

50 BMG is an upsized 30-06, not the other way around. 30-06 is from 1906....50 BMG is from about 1920 (put into service in 1921).

@ShaunZimmerman668 I have shot five rounds while bench rested through the same hole at 100 yards with a Remington 700 BDL in Triple 2 with the right 55gr. load. 50gr. has not done as well in my rifle. So I have the rifle and cartridge both designed by Mike Walker. Precision rifle and cartridge. The .223 with the shorter neck is nowhere near as accurate (precise) as the longer neck Triple 2.

.222 Remington is a great ol cartridge. My Pop was into the varmint shooting scene which was quite popular in the mid 1960s here in my home area. He bought a new Revelation model 225 in .222 Remington. If you’re not familiar with Revelation branded firearms, they were Western Auto’s store branded guns produced by many different well known manufacturers depending upon the gun itself. This Revelation model 225 was a Savage model 340 and my Pop bought it in 1965. It’s a beautiful gun. Well taken care of and still looks like new. It’s also a tack driver in that fabulous .222 Remington caliber. I was six years old when he get it. Currently I am 65 years old and still enjoy this great old rifle AND the .222 Remington.

I have a Revelation 20 Gauge bolt action shotgun that was my dad’s.

I bought my first centerfire rifle in Cavalier ND at a Coast to Coast hardware store 9/72. The Remington 788 was on sale for 99.95$ in a few calibers. I was working at the SafeGuard missile radar site during the construction phase. One of the guys from my area of California said I should pick up the .222 Rem as I wanted something more than a 22rf. That rifle spoiled me for accuracy. In early 73’ I put a Canjar trigger in it and bedded the birch stock. Had a Lyman All American 10x on it until late 80’s when it went into a Lee Six Beavertail glass stock and put a Leupold m8 12x on it. I still have that rifle in that configuration. Could shoot dime groups all day long with varmint 50 gr bullets. Smaller groups with bench or match 52-53 gr bullets. Sierra bullets of choice & most accurate with IMR 4198. It seems to be a mini me of the grand daddy of many cartridges the 7x57 Mauser. I bought a Ruger 77 7x57 in 73’ and is very accurate too. I also have a 17 Rem, & 204 Ruger and had a .221 Fireball back in the 80’s. Going up a step I have a 22-250 & custom 244. My favorite will always be that 100$ 222 788 Rem that can still hold its own after more than fifty years

I'm pretty sure it's the cartridge I cut my teeth with reloading. Every few years we head out west after prarie dogs and in between that the trusty 222 claims the odd pest, groundhog, coyote, etc. Such a neat classic cartridge.

I’ve never saw a connection between the two, but you could be right. If you look at the 222 it’s just a scaled down 30-06. Similar to how the 50 BMG is a scaled up version.

It's hard to get any 222 to shoot a poor group almost EVERY combination of components works well. I currently have two a shaw heavy barrel and a Browning high wall

Its a top cartridge, i like inherently accurate cartridges, why takes second best, ifi can have the best, low recoil, not so bad on the ear drums,nice barrel life,and well priced too, and its a classic, dont spook all the animals like a 243, its too loud, better accuracy than 223,what more do i want from a 224 bullet, just❤ it.

In my experience the 222 slightly edges out the 223 in accuracy & reload-ability. Extremely easy to reload & obtain 1/2” or better groups Extremely stable & predictable cartridge. You will find, the 222 brass, exhibits more uniform case wall thickness, web & flash hole & true shoulder angle. This contributes to uniform case capacity & ignition. I suspect the 223 brass suffers due to its mass production & many various manufacturers. 222 is limited production & is hard to find. The 222’s limited velocity is of no concern to prairie dogs, They are equally as dead, hit by a 222 as a 223. In 222, light bullet expansion with soft points, tipped bullets or hollow points, is also remarkably violent & will dismember a light skinned critter into several bite size pieces. The buzzards & the eagles will thank you, for easing their digestion. 222 is king 👑
