Throw in a "Track number zero." somewhere for good measure!
I finally got around to watching this full thing (I've been moving into school)! I was so impressed by the graphic design - the "line complete" screens/sound effects and map animations were top-notch!

I did this challenge. I did it with a friend, actually. We rode every Metra train in one day. Started out at 5:30 a.m. and came back at 2:00 a.m. (Over 21 hours) And our goal was to try and ride every line from beginning to end. (Save for a few caveats to make connections.) We logged over 360 miles on Metra that day. But what a very fun and exciting day. Totally worth the adventure. 🙂 Awesome video! I wish I could have recorded our adventure, too. But cell phones didn't have very good cameras at the time. And I couldn't carry a camcorder because traveling light was essential.

Do you remember which lines you did from end to end? (Or end to near the end) I have to hand it to you, that’s a serious accomplishment. You should send a letter to Metra and see if they’ll give you any swag for doing “transit extreme sports”

@andrewhurricane I've been on every Metra Line from beginning to end except for the Heritage corridor to Joliet which at least at the time didn't run on weekends, and the Metra Antioch line which also doesn't run on weekends. So those are the only lines I haven't been on due to them not running on weekends. Yeah, that would be cool to get some swag from Metra. Unfortunately, it's something I just did with a friend, and we didn't record it. It was just something we did for fun and the adventure of it all. 🙂
The sign at Prospect Heights is from before 2020, when the NCS had all day service. CN ran the Wakesha sub as two single track lines, one for passenger and one for freight. So all but a few passenger trains ran on the West Main track. Also, your HC train was bording on track 30 because the HC trains are stored in the middle of the day at Western Avenue, so have to run through the station to reach the South Terminal platforms. Tracks 28 and 30 are the only tracks that can run through the station.
Great job on this journey! I would definitely recommend showing this to Metra and see if they can give you some sort of recognition for this amazing feat.

Haha I don't think its quite deserving of that, maybe if I rode the entire system as fast as possible
My understanding is that they close off cars because of the overall inefficiency of Metra. Demand is really low for some trains but they can’t decouple cars since it will be used later in the day for higher demand trains. In Oak Lawn the busy road you were on was 95th Street. It is basically a stroad except for the fact that there’s a sidewalk that follows along side it and the north/south street of Cicero Avenue (95th Street and Cicero is the closest major intersection to the station) for several miles. It is actually semi plausible to live a car free existence in Oak Lawn. Definitely not safe to ride a bike on 95th Street though. And yes SWS is ridiculously infrequent. I believe that it would be profitable for them to run more trains on it.
I've just re-watched this - I was half-asleep during the premiere on Saturday night. It looks like a fun day out, with an interesting variety of stations and trains. If you have time and energy for more exploration, I think there's material for a "Secrets of" series on Metra lines.

A “secrets of” would be a cool video!
Taking the Loop Bound Pink or 63rd Bound Green from Clinton to Washington/Wabash would’ve been faster
Despite being a daily commuter this is actually on my bucket list. Haha never thought of doing it on one day. I’ve been on more than half of the lines through normal commuting.
If I watch on 2x speed, can it count as a speed run?
"Track number two." - Metrarail
Ever since I was a little kid visiting my grandparents in St. Charles I've wanted to do this
Remember the sws will go to lasalle street where there us an existing stop at 35 street. However there is talk abou movingthe ox north if the st charlies airline and da river
Such an epic opening
I can't believe you actually did this, what a long day.
For the Southwest Service, I would've ridden to Orland Park 179th Street.
hey I love the video, but how did you manage to ride an outbound SWS in the morning... and an inbound NCS in the evening? those trains don't usually operate a lot of services.
@karatransitfur
Жыл бұрын
The SWS operates one outbound in the morning on weekdays, and the NCS operates one inbound in the afternoon!
My local line was the BNSF Line
this is an absolutely crazy challenge damn 😭
Love the video wish I could come to Chicago and ride the lines and enjoy a pizza lunch with ya 🙂👍
Clybourn both in and out? It's the sensible chage stop. Still, I feel a little like it's cheating since that's the same combined row to/from Ogilvie. Given, riding an extra stop along either line might have wasted too much extra time.
You're an amazing lunatic! Job well done.
Awesome video! My friend and I are working on trying to ride every Metra line. We still have a couple to ride, but it will be hard, since we have to do the Southwest Service and the North Central Service

Track number 2......................Track number 2, Track number 3..................Track number 2...................Track number 5.......................Track number 2 The Heritage Corridor is my favorite, hope you enjoyed that one!
They lack trains
What a cool challenge and video!
underrated video!
Cool idea. I am curious why you went all the way to Prospect Heightts rather than to Rosemont or O'Hare (or even one of the closer-in stations shared with the UPW line).
@karatransitfur
Жыл бұрын
I chose Prospect Heights cause it was a relatively short wait for the train back! If I'm being honest, I slapped together a schedule and went with the first one that worked haha, there's probably many more efficient ways to do this.
I hate when Metra HC go 78 mph 34:54
Awww...I was rooting for the blue island connection between Metra Electric and Rock Island.
I'm curious as to how many different tracks/platforms your trains used at Union and Ogilvie stations.

Nice
I was getting so bored this morning just scrolling until I found this!
You should have topped it off with a quick hop on the South Shore
Was this journey worth it?
It's U.P. North/Northwest, for Union Pacific. Not up like the direction 😂
