Good advice. Staying calm and looking ahead is key. I try not to chase other riders because I feel that will make both the other rider and I get too excited and make a stupid mistake.

Good tips. We need a hell of a lot more rider education in this country. Far too many people just rushing out to buy a bike without knowing what the hell they're doing. Ditto for all immigrant cagers over here in SoCal. FML I encounter buffoons just about every time I get behind the wheel over here.

I couldn't imagine riding a motorcycle without taking the Motorcycle Class first - sure glad I did. I don't know how people just buy it and learn to ride it on their own, learn all the rules and tips. I'm sure its possible but on a motorcycle one does NOT want to learn from his own mistakes.

GOOD ADVICE. even today I had a driver do a left hand turn in front of me while going thru an intersection. It is amazing how many people relly do not see you!

As is said over here, mirror, signal, manouvre. And the ambulance thing is to allow room for getting patients on stretchers in and out.

Cool video. As a kind of follow up I just remembered it would be cool if you made a video describing how you ride the ducati (I mean technically). How you prefer to ride it (use of the clutch, engine RPMs, when you like to shift, engine bracking, throttle use, etc). I noticed on other videos (with less traffic involved) that you like to keep the engine in the high rev range (specially when on low gears) instead of going for the next gear sonner. Things as why is that, and related stuff would be a nice video, if I may say so. Plenty to learn from that kind of videos from fellow riders, in my mind. I would watch that one.

The ambulance has a Keep Back warning to stop people trying to catch up to ambulances and crashing into other vehicles as they are turning back into their lanes after they have let the ambulance pass.

Man don't listen to people saying your bike is slow. I've got an M750, an R6, and a GSXR-1000. When I'm riding in town (and my town is nowhere near as hectic as yours) I take the Monster, because it's perfect for the kind of riding you do. I take the R6 if I'm going fast in the twisties, and I take the GSXR if I want to be stupid at 180MPH. For the kind of riding you do, there's no reason for anything bigger than your bike, unless you just like spending ALLOT more $ on insurance, Reg, Parts, and gas. If you move to Florida, yea get a big bike. Otherwise, tell those 'tards to stop being 'tards. There's allot more to riding than the # on the side of the bike. Peace!

I agree with you 100%. My bike is perrrrrfect for the city and the riding i do. It's also no real slouch on the twisties or for a casual cross country ride. I'm def in no rush to upgrade/update my bike just for a bigger engine. I love being able to wind my bike out to the max, and i'm still only going 45 :P

If motorcycling was just about max acceleration and power, we'd all be riding 1000+ cc superbikes. Fortunately that isn't the case. Anyways, good advice on big city riding. You're definitely adept at it and your bike is well suited for it.

Thanks man! Yea, I think my "little" 620 is spot on for the kind of riding I do. Nice low end torque and grunt of a Ltwin. Its a great all around bike. I can rip it up like a savage or ride it 5000 miles to California. At the same time on the same day. Variety is the spice of life.

Im from the bx and want to get a cruiser or something in that range to ride out here. Based on our roads what do you recommend? I was think a Honda Rebel? I can be a little aggressive on the gas petal and am an aggressive driver so I want to get used to riding since I have one experience, and that ended with me falling off the mini dirt bike and getting some road rash. Thats the last time I got on a bike. Anyway what are your thoughts?

Hi there. My buddy Moto Noir actually rides a Rebel - you should check out his vlog! I don't think a cruiser bike is ideal for NYC since you need quick movements and cruisers are longer and on a slower side. This Monster is my very first bike ever, and its comfy enough to ride across USA or to dip around town. That's the bike :)

i just started riding. i was expecting the suspension to be firm on my street triple r, but i wasnt expecting to have my ass in the air from time to time, or to recibe te equivalent of a blow from a giant hammer on some bumps (not potholes) city is hell to me, i wish it wasnt like that. did you had a similar experience qhen you started? your rides seem bumpy too, if you ride too much in the city will your lower back hurt from the hits?

No, no back pains of any kind from the bumps, but it does work your suspension. Had my fork rebuilt recently, new oil and seals and I adjusted it a bit better for my weight and its alot better. When its set to factory setting, which yours might be, its all over the place. Not sure if your suspension is adjustable, i would imagine it is. Play with the compression and rebound rates.

Yep, it def flys up once in awhile over especially large bump. My suspension is definitely not perfect.

By stating "Keep Back," I think they are instructing you not to pull up and stop right behind the ambulance where they can't properly open their doors and have enough room to safely load and unload a patient.

That makes total sense. Also I presume its due to them making quick turns/stops and that way no one slams in the back of it. Either way, gotta give them room!

i like watching other people riding naked bikes to reinforce that my misery on the highway on the sv650 is ok

"Obey the rules at all times," yet illegally splits lanes at every opportunity, rarely checks blind spots while changing lanes, changes lanes over areas where it's marked not to, illegal left turns, etc. @ 9:25 he changes lanes without signaling and literally the next thing he does is complain about a vehicle doing the same thing. Watching what he does instead of what he says, it's do whatever you personally feel safe doing. Which I do too on my bikes and I enjoy his videos and the ballsy way he navigates, but just sayin' the best teaching is by example.

@@ducatinyc OK fair enough on the blind spots; I just re-watched it but @ 3:15 you weave into the left lane, followed by a weave into the right with no observable blind spot check. There weren't any cars that I'd check for either in that situation either but your MSF instructor would be scolding you and you know it. ;) Like I said, I enjoy your videos and the way you ride -- I didn't have a car for 10 years and rode either a bicycle or motorcycle year-round in Wisconsin & southern Ontario, and wouldn't have the balls to lane split as much as you do in places where car drivers aren't expecting it. Keep it up man, the world needs more good motovloggers like yourself.
