RIDING A DRESSAGE SCHOOL MASTER | Talland School of Equitation | EMD Eventing

If you've already watched my birthday weekend vlog, you will know that Tina gave be an epic birthday pressie of riding a dressage school master at The Talland School of Equitation. Although slightly nervous to begin with I thoroughly enjoyed it and could have been left there 😂 I thought I would do a more in depth vlog of both my lessons ☺️

The cheek of the 'won't be on the bit then' comment 😂 It is amazing how quickly we get used to riding just our own horse/s, isn't it. Nothing gets your head in the game like a straight up, firm instructor making you do a lot of quick succession canter/walk transitions 👀😂 Once your head was in the game you pulled off some really nice work, well done! 😃

I know! I Couldn't believe it. Although then rode like a sack of potatoes for the first 10 minutes didn't help that point 😂 Yup feel like those canter walk transitions are what Miss Lola and I need to do. Thanks lovely it was so fab and already want to go again! x

I might be working towards those. My mare is retiring :( but I have my friends horse I'm riding and quick succession transitions (Not walk to canter yet she barely has those down) may be on our list.

Emily you did brilliantly. This is a whole different discipline. Like asking a Touring Car driver to take on a Formula One car in an F1 race - different 'buttons' as you said, & a different 'vehicle'. You rocked it. You made the podium across the finishing line at Silverstone🙂. Sorry about the car analogy, my hubby's a huge fan. You looked great, the horse looked great (on the bit too) - Charlotte Dujardin watch out!!!

So good Emily, the controlled canter and half passes got so good, And awesome changes through the diagonal, getting 3 in, amazing! and the extended trot transitions... honestly you are so good at dressage, I reckon you and Lola should definitely see how far you can go with pure dressage when she's back on form, you're so naturally disciplined and good at it!

That was great! One time I was riding a thoroughbred that was trained to do the Spanish walk, and I got to do it. Also the horse did passage/piaffe and maybe some other stuff which was so cool. I used to ride this guys horse, because I had no horse, which my uncle got me connected to years ago. I hope one day I’ll lose some weight and either take lessons so I can ride again. I hope one day I’ll have a another horseand can event low level in the future. You girls are so lucky to have nice horses and family and farms. ❤️ Hugs

Great job Em!! You looked fantastic even though you were so nervous. I bet a lot of people would have totally gone to pieces for the whole thing, especially with it being a surprise and no time to mentally prepare for it. At least now it has given you something else to aim for with Miss Lola's training hun. Lovely to see another video from you again, as always 🤗

Hey Emily. What a brilliant lesson. The difference from the start and the end was huge. He was a lot of horse to get motoring but by the end you were flying. Lovely to watch and totally inspiring. 👍😊

I had Frodo for my Schoolmaster lessons and he is sublime. His canter is amazing and I found I felt like I could sit to his trot forever. He taught me half pass, shoulder in and flying changes 😍😍

Well done Em, I’ve ridden a few school masters and it’s really hard to get on new horses and ride them when you’re used to riding your own horse. Super experience thank you for sharing it.

Thank you for sharing this! So I had a jump on my share horse this evening and was riding in front of his owner. I totally appreciate what you said about riding and nerves - because I had this this evening! I am an experienced rider but I lost my stirrup for no reason, flappy arms I mean what the hell. But I look at you at such an elegant and accomplished rider and it does make me feel better when you are honest and say that nerves affected you too. I hope you don't mind me saying that! :)

Well done for surviving Pammy! I had been riding my whole life when i got on a advanced dressage horse and for about 15 minutes i felt like i couldnt ride. I will say I think the trot work and lateral movements are so much easier in sitting trot than rising because you can use your seat and shoulders better

This is so weird! I used to school doing a lot of these exercises (Didn't think I was anywhere near this level. I only rode the rabble because that's all I got for voluntary work.) I know as a rider it takes a lot of work and effort. I'm just glad I've ridden all sorts once I got into riding and it stayed that way. Keeps you on your toes. I was doing those canter-walk-opposite canter transitions on a 3/4 Shire x.... I know I've said horses can turn their hoof to anything, but this horse barely got this level of schooling as he was mostly for novice adult riders. I'm impressed in hindsight that he was forward and receptive to do it. (And he loved doing lateral work! Maybe he was bored and enjoyed something other than plodding around the school)
