Surprisingly fun little machine. I'd love to spend a few hours on it.

Nice man! I don't know too much about them, but I know they're relatively easy to work on and I enjoyed racing around on this one for a while.

zach bennett just got an 80. Xj650 this makes me super happy! I’m studying for my permit test so I can get riding it. The only problem is that the petcock is crapped out so I can’t use it until the 23rd when the part comes.

I ride one, very reliable, it's quite normal that they will go up to 85000 miles. Just service at the right intervals. Parts are very cheap!

Let me educate you all that call these engines "in-line", technically it's a transverse engine. A good example of a bike with an in-line engine is the Triumph Rocket 3 and for the fossils out there, the Henderson 4. here's the rule of thumb, if the crankshaft is perpendicular to the frame it's a transverse engine. BTW I owned one of these bikes, and when accelerating as you pass 4k on the tach it was like hittin' the TURBO boost. You guys that own one know what I'm talkin' about.

  • @jacobcantplay4765

The engine itself is an in-line engine. However, the engine placement is known as transverse.

As Jacob said, I'm speaking to the cyl configuration being inline without regard to the config of the crank vs. the frame.

Why don't I ever see these bikes with slip ons is there something that messes with the carbs or something I have em on mine and it seems to be running fine after a carb tune bit loud but exhaust laws are pretty lenient in michigan

i wanted to ask you about the wind on an open bike being i just got my first bike 09 suzuki gladius same as yours. im trying to get use to the wind but it's not quite riding season in ny. im hoping when summer get here the warmer wind will be better?

  • @drossinitup

+k w I really only notice the wind at highway speeds, but I don't really mind it when it's warmer out. I certainly feel the difference when I get on the Gladius compared to my other bike (which has a windshield), but as long as it's warm enough, I don't mind. If you really don't like it, I know there are a few brands (Puig, Givi, etc.) that make small windscreens for the Gladius that should at least keep some air off of your chest: www.google.com/search?q=suzuki+gladius+windscreen&espvd=2&biw=1920&bih=979&tbm=shop&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj1id-w2frLAhWHg4MKHRHnDewQ_AUIBygB&dpr=1

A 4-year old GoPro Hero 2 shooting in 1080p at 30 fps. Still has a decent picture but I'd love to get one of the new ones. Microphone is a fairly cheap Olympus ME-52W fitted underneath my cheekpad and plugged straight into the GoPro for recording.

I only spent an hour on this bike, so can't really say. But I'd say it certainly is a good machine if you want something to maintain a bit and want something you won't get in trouble on. It's fast enough to be interesting for a beginner without being too fast, and it's simple enough if you wanna work on it yourself.

That bike would do a 13sec quarter mile. While that isn't too impressive by today's standards, it was was within the realm of what stock muscle cars were doing in the late 60's. Not at all shabby for a sub 600cc bike!
