Ridiculous Jobs Queen Elizabeth Actually Has Her Staff Do

Ойын-сауық

Any monarch or head of state is going to have a whole staff of people to make sure they’re safe and taken care of, but Queen Elizabeth II has some employees who do seemingly ridiculous jobs. Sure, she’s the queen, and she’s busy, but does she really need someone to wear in her shoes before she puts them on for the first time?
The footwear specialist is just one bizarre royal job, with others including the bagpipe player who wakes her up and the official meat carver. Let’s take a look at some ridiculous jobs that Queen Elizabeth II actually has her staff do.

I think she employs people because it is tradition and most of them can then say they worked for her . One of my relatives was a lady in waiting for queen victoria, she obviously was proud to be able to say so or we would know nothing about it.

Agreed, though there is a purpose to every job listed and not all receive financial compensation. Regardless of how one feels about the job in question, working for the Queen always looks good on one's resume. Here in America I have a friend who used to work on the staff at Buckingham Palace and now works at an upscale hotel in Florida. Just the mere mention of Buckingham Palace got him instantly hired at the hotel. They didn't even bother with an interview. They saw his resume and called him up and asked when he could start. They even gave him a choice between three different positions. He is now in charge of making sure the dining room staff treat all guests as royalty and he knows exactly how royalty like to be treated. he also happens to earn about twice what he was getting paid at Buckingham Palace which of course is often the reason people take jobs there in the first place. I would take a job as brass knob polish inspector there if it meant I could put on my resume that I worked at Buckingham palace and I'd do it for minimum wage.

The royal philatelist might seem silly to some but the royal stamp collection is the largest and most valuable stamp collection in the world and is worth north of $100 million and requires a lot of attention to detail. It is equivalent to a head curator of a major museum and should actually be a full time job with a large staff. My modest stamp collection requires as much attention as this gentleman devotes to the royal stamp collection and that is actually fairly typical of any serious philatelist.

I hope that the collection is located in a Royal Gallery that is open to the public, since the whole justification for allowing the monarchy to continue to possess such treasures is the expectation that the Crown can be trusted to hold culturally and historically important items in trust on behalf of the British people as well as the whole of the human race. Can any Londoners reading this shed any light on whether they can go somewhere to view and learn about the Queen's pictures?

Even this rather silly video explains that most of the somewhat archaic posts are "honorary" or ceremonial" which means that those who receive payment receive a "stipend"c which is probably that same amount as it was four or five hundred years ago - i.e. a piffling amount, but the honour of the post recognises their skills in those areas. It is easy for many to confuse "the Queen" (a person) with "The Crown" (a post) monarchs come and go, as they are human, but the crown is a continuous tradition and as such is where all ceremonial things and places are "owned" (The Queen doesn't "own the crowns, or most of the palaces, and other premises. The wearing in of shoes may sound ridiculous to some, but our ageing HRH attends many functions where she is obliged to walk or stand, and she merely ensures that she is able to meet the requirements. All in all the Queen (now aged 94) still works to serve the UK and commonwealth, and when inheriting the crown from her poor father in 1952 pledged to serve the people for life. Frankly, she has never put a foot wrong, Long live the Queen!"

That said, I doubt that she cares one way or the other for much of this traditional stuff. My point is that much of the "theatre" surrounding royalty - the gold carriages, the palaces (Buckingham and Windsor among them), the Crown jewels, vast art collections, the state banquets, etc., are NOT owned by her but by the British people. The queen, I understand, lives rather frugally when she's allowed to. I've heard her state that she rarely wears jewellery unless it's required as part of some costume. Joyce Randall Junior members of the Royal Family work for a living in some business or other. The late Princess Margaret's son is a furniture designer and cabinet maker. Senior members of the Royal Family have various formal duties to carry out depending on their status. The most senior member, next to the Queen is Prince Charles, he, as heir to the throne is now deputising for the Queen in many of the 'out-and-about' duties. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also represent the Queen, visiting various parts of the country or abroad. There can often be several 'representation' visits in one day. The Swans were also tasked with another job in ancient days, they are excellent anti-burglar guards. If they were still kept around the palaces & castles none of those trespasser stories we have heard would have occurred. Swans and Geese are extremely territorial and have no problem with attacking human strangers

If these were all full-time, full paying jobs this would be a horrendous waste of money. But they’re not and many are only honorary. As for the shoes, the queen is extremely firm about not missing any engagements unless it’s a catastrophe. At 96, a blister might really slow her down. Her designer/seamstress is a good sport.

FUN FACT: The death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791 at the age of 35 was followed by rumors that he and Salieri had been bitter rivals, and that Salieri had poisoned the younger composer, yet this has been proven false, and it is likely that they were, at least, mutually respectful peers.
