So here I little back story: Ren had medical issues with pain to the point where he was bedbound for a good 23 hours a day. The doctors were sure it was all in his head and that he was mentally ill. He was given heavy medication for said issues, which made everything worse. Turned out he contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite. As a result of misdiagnosis, he developed PTSD and brain damage from Lyme disease. He is currently undergoing daily treatment in Canada, plus surgery is coming up too. His pain and frustration is his motor and vent. Amazing artist with a vast back catalog worth diving into 🖤🖤🖤

@Wes Baumguardner It does and it will continue to do so. As someone that dealt with the same issues after 20+ years being told I'm crazy, can't hurt that much. It took forever but the vindication I felt was absolute bliss. I see the "Devil" as that dark voice that makes you doubt yourself, especially under those circumstances. We all are our own worst critic. I think it's time for something fresh, and this man fits that and then some. He's pure, raw creativity. I always describe him like that no matter what reaction I watch of this song and others by him. My gut says he's about to blow up, HUGE! I can't wait to see what he brings.

I grew up about 30 minutes from the town that coined the term "Lyme disease" (Lyme, Ct.). I'm 52 now and watched a lot of my friends be misdiagnosed with this as teenagers. It ruined scholarships, businesses, relationships. It was a scary time. I'm glad he was properly diagnosed.

“Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work.

As an older man of 63yrs, I've suffered most of my life with mental health issues. From C PTSD, ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR, SUICIDAL IDEATIONS, among other things. After countless hospitalizations and a ridiculous amount of drug therapies, I decided to turn towards God and ask Him to take on all of my problems, which He graciously has. I am blessed to say that at this time I am medication free and I haven't been hospitalized in 5 years. It's truly been a miracle for me. Thank You God. So yes, even though many of us have mental health problems we are human beings. 🙏🇺🇸✌️😎

Here is some additional information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales in 1990 or ‘91 (depending on which source you cite), he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

He was misdiagnosed with bi polar type illness. He was in so much pain was in bed 23 hrs. He was given meds for mental illnesses which messed him up. Later a correct diagnosis of Lyme Disease (he was bitten by an infected tick) was given. It all took years while the disease attacked his body and mind. He is in Canada atm starting initially 3 months treatments to try and reverse the damage. They extended it to 6 months due to the problems found. Ren is releasing recorded material every month during this time. He had a record deal in his teens, but was dropped due to the illness.

Ren was misdiagnosed with Bi-Polar and Depression but for years the doctors ignored his insistence that his symptoms were not caused by his mind. The awful truth is that he was bitten by a flea and he developed Lyme's Disease and it was untreated for years. Now he has many complications including brain damage and is receiving intensive treatment in a clinic in Alberta, Canada. We are all praying he has the fullest possible recovery. Ren has been compared to Shakespeare by many and is, demonstrably, a genius.

This actually a story of recovery. At the end he has accepted himself as "a coin with two different sides", before joyfully singing from the top of his lungs. As the monologue at the end, which is him reciting one of his blogs says, he's stopped fighting andb relaxed. The more recent song "sick boi" is a prequel to this and expresses his frustration and anger, when he was seriously ill and virtually housebound for years, and doctors were telling him it was all in his head. When in fact he had undiagnosed Lyme's disease and autoimmunity. He has since had a stem cell transplant, which allowed him to recover enough to start singing and playing again, and he is currently in Canada receiving a 6 month treatment program for the Lyme's disease and the issues it and the autoimmunity have caused. Sick boi is very much worth a listen also. As is the "Tales of Jenny and Screech (full) which is 3 songs back to back that truely highlight his storytelling ability.Kind of a Shakesperian tragedy in 3 acts, sung by a wandering minstrel. But he can also full on rap, try "the hunger" or "money game II", which the "She sells sea shells" line in Hi Ren is referencing.

Ren purposely used nylon strings on the acoustic guitar so he could get that thumpy bass tone. He also switched up riffs for the two different Ren's also. Ren has a band called "The Big Push" and they have videos where they play street shows in Britain. They do amazing, and I mean amazing covers of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." They do an incredible cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" and Ren's voice sounds so much like Bob Marley's. They cover The Rolling Stones "Paint It Black" with Ren playing bass and it too is incredible. Also the Police song "Walking On The Moon" It's amazing how much great music Ren has put out. It just sucks all of it has been put on I hold while he gets treatment in Canada for the long term effects of untreated Lyme disease.

I ignored this song until I saw that you guys did it, and finally gave it a shot. It's clearly good, but I thought one or two more listens and I'd be good, but I was wrong. I haven't stopped watching reactions to it since, and the song gets better every time I hear it. It has so much depth, and there is so much detail to appreciate. So thanks for that.

this song touches a lot of people , hard. it hits because it is a universal truth. we all struggle with self-doubt, temptations, negative thoughts etc. some even share that very powerful self-destructive voice. the one you want to kill. the one that tells you you're bad for everyone around you. the one that tells you you will only hurt people even though you don't want to. that you will never get better. and his answer is simple and elegant. it's to simpy acknowledge that as much power as the dark has, you have free will to not listen to it. And that it "free will" is more powerful than the dark. It can't kill it but it can match it. it can stand against it.

You haven't seen anything yet. I hope you keep going down the Ren rabbit hole. Every song is different and amazing. He writes, raps, sings, plays multiple instruments, and produces his own music. Every song is different, and will surprise you in a different way. Next should be The Tale of Jenny and Screech Full Version. Ren's psychosis came from a misdiagnosed illness. They doctors couldn't diagnose it so they told him it was all in his head and started prescribing him medication for mental illness that he didn't have. This went on for years until he was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. By that time the Lyme, the misprescribed drugs, and constantly being told his symptoms and pain were "all in his head" by Heath professionals had done a lot of damage. He is currently undergoing treatment in Canada with specialists to try and undo some of the damage the untreated Lyme did to his body and immune system. There's a go fund me on his personal You Tube channel to help fund his expenses while there.

I just discovered Ren the other day. This song came out in late December and has over 5.6 million views. His is an amazing artist. An independent artist. I've spent way too much time the last two days watching his videos. Solo, with others and with his group The Big Push. Not all rap. His band does covers of Black Sabbath, Bob Marley, and others. He play bass on some of them. Haven't seen a bad one yet. Don't be surprised if he watches your reaction and leaves a comment.

Another unique aspect from Ren is that he does every song live and only does 1 take. He always has his microphone on the top of his shirt in his guitar pack is on a a belt on his back. He is THAT GOOD!!! If he has to cough or wipe his nose in a song you will see it in the video!!! Lol He is currently in the hospital just underwent a surgery, then his gums got nfected....... It's just horrific that a person has to go through what he has!!!! And d he STILL has such a POSITIVE OUTLOOK!!! Ren quickly became one of my top favorite Independent artists!!!! Love your videos!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I absolutely love that EVERYONE kinda gets that same "wtf?" look at the start with the whoo oo oohs... I did too of course, then it I unfolds into such an incredible story and is simply a masterpiece. I believe his lyrics of not chasing numbers, stats or clout... I mean, we all need the bills paid lol, but I feel he truly is just sharing his story & wants (& needs )the right people to hear him and understand. I'm definitely one of those people! Lex, you are absolutely GLOWING! Love to you both....er, three!😉❤❤❤✌
