Tekken tag was pretty good for launch title too

Probably the best game in showcasing a car, the music and the camera angles are perfect.

I’m willing to bet that in the Ridge Racer world, instead of 2JZ and LS swaps, they have KA-30 and 6D swaps.

THE PLAYSTATION 2 WAS REVOLUTIONARY I'm still playing and really enjoying with game console until today!

6:34 Idk how many of you guys noticed this, but one of the sponsors on the Solare is called "XEVIOUS" which actualy was an actual Namco game on the old Arcade style games that you could play at home on one of those plug and play setups that was about a fighter ship shooter on a army bass shooting things out of the sky and dropping bombs on big buildings that tried to kill you.. Funny find I noticed but not sure if this is common knowledge or anything, but just thought it would be fun to point it out! Edit: The Fortune also has "Mappy" as the sponsor on the front end as well which was also one of my favorite games growing up with one of those 5 game plug and play TV Console games which that was the last one that was the one I played the most besides Pole Position 1

Ridge Racer's whole shtick is referencing a ton of Namco's other video game franchises such as Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug, Mappy, Xevious, and many more.

I have Ridge Racer V, both games for the PlayStation Portable, Ridge Racer 6, and Ridge Racer 7, and I love the simplicity of Ridge Racer V the most out of all the games. The fact that this is essentially a remake of the first Ridge Racer, which was a launch title for the original PlayStation, makes it even better. If Ridge Racer 8 and 9 used this formula, but served as mini-remakes of Ridge Racer Revolution and Rave Racer, that would be a match made in heaven for me.

You should try Ridge Racer Type 4 on PSX It's one of the best Ridge Racer ever

You're not true fan of Ridge Racer without knowing the iconic Kamata Fiera/Fiaro with that iconic F/A Racing Livery with white line and that Namco logo in the back of car

Retaining the borders of the UI makes loading look seemless, god Namco is on another level in the late 90s to 2000s

It would be really good if Ridge Racer 7 had some nice engine models like this one.

A car with a 6.4L W18 with a 7-speed manual is my wet dream

The Fiaro looks like the baby of a gen 1 Eclipse and a Mk4 Supra, the Toreador looks like a 90s Mustang and an R32 Skyline had a baby, the Solare is loosely based off a Testarossa, the Fortunes is loosely based off of an EG Civic, the Mercurio has elements of Lamborghini, Aston Martin of the time, and the jaguar XJ200, and the EO is a hatchback hybrid of a Porsche 911 and a Lotus Elise

I was gonna say that the Mercurio looks like a Ferarri (575 M. in the front, 360 scaled down lights at the back, and has the body of a Ferarri) Excluding the drivetrain as it has a twin turbo v6 and AWD, a refrence to the Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT. This is just my take on it.

(before video) Maybe, someday I'll get to actually play this, and not just for a few hours. 9:58 All of the standard cars have Euro-Japanese styling, but this one in particular is a combination of the Ferrari F50 backend with the frontend of a Lamborghini Diablo. 11:10 Saleen S1 Prototype, really. 12:20 You can clearly tell this was modeled after the late Vespa P! series. 14:14 Ah, yes, the odd one out, Clyde/Sue. 23:48 "Oh, I've never driven it." "Why's that?" "It scares the shit out of me..." lolz 25:44 lmfao Of course, it's the pellets. May the drug addict memes ensue. xD 26:10 Nice, Namco. xD 30:40 'Devil' looks more like a kobold, but okay, sure, we'll go with Devil. At least it's not Lou. lolz I definitely loved the premise of this game, but as I said, I never got to play it past the few hours the one time.

Finally someone cares about this game.

Ridge Racer 8, much like Metroid Prime 4, was canceled by Namco's Singapore branch. I'm desperately hoping that Ridge Racer 8 is still in the works since Retro Studios is now working on Metroid Prime 4 instead.

Honestly as much as I like 6 and 7 the older games are way better in car’s’ menu presentation and music omg why can’t the music in newer games in general be this good also wish there was a new ridge racer one day

Kamata Fiaro's headlight resembles Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE111, and the Denver Toreador's tailight resembles Toyota Corolla Levin AE111 (1996-1997).

Good old days of tearing up tracks in the Himmel EO or Kamata Angelus.

I haven't played this game in years

As much as I like the new cars I prefer the old cars especially the Solare but the Raggio is pretty good as well

Himmel E. O. was the car I always used. It had the best handling imo.

Really? I had problems getting used to driving it. Anytime you turn in, it understeers immediately. I tried turning earlier before the corner (which is how ive been driving it ever since) and it sort of worked but still, that sudden turn-in understeer characteristic of the E.O is weird.

R4 had a slick soundtrack and stunning sytle and presentation. But from a gameplay standpoint RRV and Rage Racer owns it.

Yeah but can someone tell me why Namco skipped this generation?

All 4 games have reached 7. Ace Combat, Ridge Racer, Tekken and Soulcalibur.

Kamata ka-30fr looks like rb26de plasma with 7mge design While the four cylinders are looking like b18c J20f looks like Honda c30a And ka43 tft has displacement of Thor four cylinder engine (4.0 vs 4.3)

The Himmel EO came a long way after this game. Glad it got be a supercar

I don't think they are displaying incorrectly.. that is exactly how they look like on a real PS2. It's just that RR5 being an extremely early PS2 title meant that the game wasn't using the PS2's full potential. It's really odd that the textures look so pixelated, but I'm guessing Namco was more accustomed to PS1 hardware than the brand new PS2, hence the textures. Maybe they didn't put as much effort since it might have been rushed to meet the PS2's launch window, but it is definitely noticeable compared to Gran Turismo 3. Gran Turismo 2000 was kind of the same case as this, which I'm glad PD chose to delay instead of trying to release ASAP.

I meant car textures are totally corrupted using the hardware renderer. On the video XTG is using the software renderer, which looks fine but then you can't upscale past 480p. At least the dreaded "blinking shadows" bug was fixed, look up gameplay of RR5 emulated and you'll see what I mean. Excluding the glitches this game still looks great :)

Fantastic short game with one of the best racing soundtracks, playing on a real PS2 is ideal, as emulating still isn't good

Go for it. Compared to the games that came after, there's a bit of a learning curve (especially for the grip-type cars), but Ridge Racer V is still a great arcade racing game.

Hard Game

So this could sound kinda strange but, I'm searching for a game that somehow has to be related to Ridge Racer, you see this game that i don't remember the game it has real cars and the protagonist is a girl somehow looking like the Ridge Racer girl, the game first cinematic was about that girl driving fast an ambulance. That's the only details I remember of that game and also i think it was for PS2 so if someone knows about the existence of this game it would be a pleasure to know the name.

Yeah, but is it really as fun? Can you really drift in gran turismo without skill? The sim racing experience is a largely different one than the arcade racer experience. Content and features really don’t matter when you’re having unbelievable amounts of fun.

Besides, these are fictional cars. Where as Gran Turismo has Hundreds of cars, all of them were Skyline GTRs, same shape, same color selections, only differing years and spe titles per each generations. GTR, V-Spec, M-Spec, Z-Spec, V-Spec Nur, M-Spec Nur, V-Spec N1, M-Spec N1 Not to mention Subaru Impreza's WRX STis, Applied C, Applied B, Applied T, Applied Endlessness.
