Pellizzari is the youngest rider of this year’s Giro at just 20 years old, so I’m pretty sure finishing the stage 2nd to Pogacar and being gifted his glasses and jersey is probably the most monumental thing to happen in his young career.

In Stage 15, Pog closed a gap of 3 minutes in around 12 km. Today he closed a gap of 30 seconds in about 1.5 km. You may not realise how fast he going if the camera is focussed only on him. It's when it shows him zooming past others who are rocking from side to side with the effort, while he maintains that serene face and hardly any body movement that you realise the amount of power he is putting into the pedals.

I did see in one of his interviews, TP saying they didn't want to go for the stage 'but Movistar were chasing, so...'. As knuckleheads go, Movistar are the most entertaining, purely for the utter confusion going on with the tactics at times. Considering the experience in the Movistar team car, it's a bit odd.
It looked like Movistar had a plan to use Nairo to launch Rubio to Sanchez as a stepping stone but when the time came, Rubio didn't have the legs.
@ChrisHornerCycling
25 күн бұрын
Yep. I agree that was their plan but it was a bad plan. Better to stop pulling and let the peloton slow, the attacks start, Rubio gets lucky and slips away, Pelayo waits, Rubio gains some time. The way Movistar did the tactics Rubio would need to be the best climber, which he is not. When you are not the best climber you want the pace to slow and then you need some tactical luck. 🤔🦋👊🍀

I was not a huge fan of Tadej prior to this year. I just thought he was not very mature and not at all very respectful of other riders. But I've seen a difference in him this year. His interviews are so much better and what he did today shows his level of maturity and respect for the other riders as well. Great vid CHris and great ending story about the jersey gift. Watching this stage made me reminisce and recall the 1988 Giro where Hampsten showed us how tough a competitor he really was. Love the insight as always. I was sitting on the chesterfield watching the stage and all I could think was typical Movistar going full gas and getting nothing to show. I was waiting to see how many times you would call them knuckleheads but you know this sport way better than I. One rules question I have not ever riding in a peloton. I noticed in the valley that Alaphillipe took off his rain gear and handed it not to the Soudal team car but a different team car. (One of the Italian teams who isn’t a uci world tour team but I can’t remember which one.) is there a rule preventing a rider from handing stuff to or taking from an opposing team car? In any case great to see him back, and I don’t know if Soudal will have him helping Evenpoel in the TDF, but I hope the French Olympic team brings him, because that course looks perfect for a guy like him. It’s a shame they didn’t bring him to Tokyo three years ago.

2 questions: 1) Is Pellizzari ever going to wash that jersey? 2) Should Ineos make its primary goal of winning the White jersey for Arensman over cat-killer Tiberi, or should they support Thomas's regaining 2nd place? In other words, when the crunch comes, should Thomas do a Majka for Arensman, or should Arensman do a Majka for Thomas?
@ChrisHornerCycling
25 күн бұрын
1. He should wash it. I kept all of my TdF stages from each day unwashed one year. It’s was pretty when I got home. 😂. But I can still say that I have stage 17 of the 2006 TdF jersey (2 really because I have a washed one from Robbie McEwen that is a green one) that has France dirt and sweat on it. But, it still wasn’t pretty when I opened the bag. 😂. 2. Is a bit harder because G has to be 100% truthful here. If he was having a bad day then Arensman should stay with him because 2nd or 3rd is better than white. But if G feels as though his form is dropping then it’s better to have Arensman go for 3rd. Difficult to know for G which he is feeling though with just one bad day unless the legs are really hurting him. G looked really tired in his interview after the stage which is not a good sign. 🤔🦋👊

There is rumours swirling that TP was paid to attend the Giro by the organisers. I would love to know how that works in terms of the UAE riders. Does TP put 50% of his fee into a rider's pool along with race prize money? I know it's a question that has an open answer. In terms of managing a team and the riders within it I find it fascinating. On another note Wout WA wears a Red Bull helmet, Red Bull lead sponsor of Bora next year....? Just saying....It is another illustration of how difficult it must be to manage a team of individuals for a collective goal.
Every time while i was watching pogi's commentary, i got to know how he is a nice and gentle guy :) someday i want to get his jersey too, but it doesn't need to be pink 😂😂
