The slowly speeding up in Perfect time is like taking a drug & I flashback every time I hear it.

This was my intro to RIDE in 1991 I think. Bought EP in Gainesville FL because 1) from UK, 2) liked the cover, & 3) was on heavy vinyl. Glad I did, sad I never found anymore! But had lots on CDs over the years. Saw them in a tiny venue in Atlanta GA around this time too! They were great wall of noise!

all their records were 'heavy vinyl'? unlike the Happy Mondays - all their were like flexi discs that you got free on magazines. i have all ride albums and EPs. And all have hot rocks burns and scratches... teenage hazard. (UK - south London)

Gainesville 1991 for me too! Lush, Slowdive among others. If i could relive any year thst would be my choice. UF was just so cool and the music then was incredible

No, you are right. Everything up to & including Nowhere is their best by far. Especially those first EPs. Weather Diaries is really nice too, it feels nostalgic, so I want to give it a nod.

Not being a d*ck at all. It may be age. No idea of your age, obvs, but as a 51 yo, this was part of my 18/19 yo soundtrack. The years of 1988-1993 or so formed such a basis of my listening that everything I listened to in those years seem the finest. Lazer Guided Melodies, A Catholic Education, Blue Lines, Screamadelica, Beatsongs, MBV. This is a well-trodden argument but it's rooted in some kind of truth. Certainly for me. These here tracks, as @Ex-Voto says, and all up to and including Nowhere, were their period of novelty, explosion, vitality. UK guitar music was in transit and Ride possessed a unique sound (subsequently copied) that oushed things forward. Think they were in their early 20s at the time which makes it all the more incredible. Great, great times. Seeing them in small venues, bouncing around to their stuff at indie discos, sharing slabs of vinyl with likeminded friends, introducing each other to newly found EPs.... Do kids these days even know what music is?!!!
