Ricky Ponting - Australian Story
The cricket captaincy occupies a unique place in the national consciousness.
When Ricky Ponting, the first Tasmanian to lead the team, retired from international cricket last December, grown men cried, parliamentary business was interrupted and a gaping hole was left in the once all conquering Australian cricket team.
The episode reveals how a prankster from a tough housing commission background in Launceston made the transition to one of the most decorated cricketers of all time and the nation's best batsman after the mighty Sir Donald Bradman.
Wife Rianna is credited with being a major influence in the transformation. In Monday's program she provides her first ever extended interview with some surprising, highly personal and candid insights.
Former teammates including Shane Warne, Michael Clarke, Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist recount their memories of playing on and off the field with the man they call 'Punter'.

Ricky Ponting, a man who could do anything on the cricket field...well almost anything. From being the top most batsman annihilating the greatest of bowlers on his day, and such days were quite a few, to stupidly get into avoidable controversies! But truly a champion cricketer and one of the all time greats...

As a Kiwi, I hold a huge amount of respect for Ricky Ponting, the cricketer, the man, the husband, a lot of men could learn from him. Thank you for his story.
He wasn't only a great batsman, he was a fantastic captain and one of the greatest fieldsmen of all time. Some of the greatest gully catches ever seen, and a number of fantastic runouts. He was deadly in the field. Thanks Rick, you did us proud.

2000 to 2009, The best thing about that Australian team which I’ve observed is that they knew how to win a match even on a bad day. When you thought it is not their day with the bat because they lost early wickets. A tail ender will came out of nowhere to produce a 100+ runs partnership with a middle order batsman that will help them reach a respectable total. When you thought “what happened to Mcgrath and Lee, they aren’t bowling their best spells today.’’ Bamm!! Here comes a great catch or a crucial runout either from Ponting, Clark or Lehmann against the Batsman who was playing the innings of his life. Even on a bad day, they produced these magical moments and outsmarted their opponents.
This video brought so many of my childhood memories back. What a time it was! Even though I'm not Australian, I've always supported them with my whole heart.
Absolutely hated Ponting when he used to play. But have found utmost respect and love for him and his team. That speaks volumes about him and Aus. 🙌🔥💯❤

What a superb batsman. One of the best I've ever seen in my 50 years of playing and watching cricket.
Over a 52 test match period he averaged 75, scored 25 100’s… no one since Bradman over a 52 match period has averaged 58.. Plus he also has over 25 more run outs than any other player in history. I think the best since Bradman. Tendulkar, Ponting , Lara , Bradman.. IMO the greatest 4 batsmen of all time

Actually, Ricky was put under pressure for some reason or other by the persons forgetting his contribution to the world of cricket. Pointing could have continued for some more time had he been encouraged by his critics. I am a die hard supporter of Australian cricket for its approach to the game of cricket. Ricky was mis-judged I should say. SAD
