RICKY HATTON v KOSTYA TSZYU (FULL FIGHT) | IBF WORLD SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE | THE QUEENSBERRY VAULT

Спорт

FROM THE QUEENSBERRY VAULT...
It's June 2005 and Manchester hero Ricky Hatton took on by far the toughest test of his career. Kostya Tszyu was a pound for pound star and a big favourite to defeat 'The Hitman' and retain his IBF World Super Lightweight Championship. Hatton had other ideas...

This fight was funny. 1. As a Challenger he got the home court advantage. 2. The commentators was way to biased and obvious can only see Hatton's punch or just ignored Tsztyu punch, every round they associate Hatton with great and incredible round from him. Keeps on hyping Hatton even on a missed punch or being hit by tszyu. They acknowledge that the crowd reacts on Hatton more but they were worse. 4. They even give Hatton a 3 points lead after 6 rounds but a round by round expert scorecard showed Tsztyu was up 4 points and they completely ignored the scorecard update. 5. The 7th round KO was actually a good punch and after round 8th they even talk about concern and will Tsztyu's corner stop the fight. 6. The fight only change by a low blow and from that moment Tsztyu was never really into the fight. 7. The stoppage for me was really weird, had the lead or tied going into the 12th and just surrender like that. IMO, Hatton had the win before it began.

I agree with the others here...Hatton just bum rushed his opponent, hugged him, pushed him against the ropes, and those poor excuse for announcers acted as it Hatton had done something great. Every time that Kostya Tszyu hit Hatton with a good punch, they just said that that was a good punch, but when Hatton barely tagged Kostya Tszyu, they said, "Oh, and Kostya Tszyu is staggered by that punch!" Talk about biased announcers! When I heard that Hatton was going to face Pac Man, I knew that the Pac Man would knock Hatton out, because Hatton has no style, he is easy to hit, and I've seen him get staggered in other fights. I like what Pac Man said after the fight when he was being interviewed in the ring. He said, "I didn't think it would be that easy."

Every fighter usually gets a slight edge from his home country judges but in England it's taken to another level. If they're guy is competitive at all he'll get the decision. This fight up until the 6th round is a perfect example( I haven't watched past the 6th yet ). The commentators were doing their usual job of hyping whatever Hatton was doing. They didn't seem to be too biased during some of the rounds, calling Tszyu's name fairly often when he deserved it, but somehow his efforts weren't giving him the round in their mind. After the 6th, one commentator asked the other, and the 1st guy said Hatton should be ahead by 3 points, the other guy said yes, 3 or 4 points for Hatton. Just then their official scorer, a guy named Jim Watts flashed his scorecard on the screen, it had Tszyu ahead by 2 rounds at 58-56. He had the same score I had and each round scored as I did, the first 2 for Hatton, the next 4 for Tszyu. The difference of opinion between them equaled 5 or 6 points. A 5 or 6 point difference is ridiculous given only 6 rounds had been fought up to then. Even though the commentators aren't professional judges, they've seen more fights then most or all and therefore should have developed some accuracy, if indeed they didn't have good scoring skills to begin with. Isn't it ironic that the commentators agree with each other and were just about in lock step, with the official scorer being the odd man out, despite being the 'official scorer'. The commentators and judges in England will be biased against one of their own if both fighters are British, favoring one sometimes heavily over the less well liked British lad. Yes I have an example; For whatever reason British fans love to dislike Chris Eubank Jr. I sort of understand why they don't seem to like him, having to do with his father and partially due to Jr. himself. I happen to see it the opposite way; I like both of the Eubank's, in the ring and out of the ring, but the Brit's struggle to find a polite word for them. I first noticed this when Jr. fought Billy Joe Saunders. He's a talented boxer but at the time only an English belt champion, and Eubank was showing great promise as well. The styles were far different and the fight was pretty ugly for the most part. The officials had Saunders ahead by 4-0 after 4 rounds, some had it 5-0 after 5 rounds and others 6-0 after 6 rounds. At that point the fight is nearly over, let's say it's 5-0 after the 5th with 7 rounds left...…..... Jr. needs to win all of them, or 6 of the 7 with one even round in order to win the fight. Saunders needed only 1 of the 7 rounds remaining to secure no worse then a draw, and one even round after that to secure the win. That's more or less what happened however. The judges and commentators were extremely biased toward Saunders so when Eubank started winning round after round, they began hedging and conniving to make sure that they had Saunders winning one way or the other. The scoring was extremely close, Saunders winning by split decision. Given the bias factor, I think the scores were close enough to say that Eubank won the fight. The judge that favored Eubank Jr. had it 116-113. The two judges that scored it for Saunders scored it 115-113 and 115-114. That tells me that one judge gave Jr. a 7-4-1 score in terms of rounds, a solid win from a likely biased judge. The 2 judges that had it for Saunders apparently found a way to squeeze out a couple of points from somewhere. I n a biased scenario like it was, if the fight should have been scored a draw by most opinions, then the judges would have their favorite fighter winning by 3 to 5 points, I've seen even wider scores in very close fights and always favoring toward the bias obviously. Generally the way to recognize if bias will occur in the judges scoring is to listen to the commenters rhetoric. If their comments are very biased toward one of the fighters then you can bet the judges are in on the game as well. Very biased commentary occurs because someone has paid for it or has other influences over the commentators. If that's true then the same scenario will play out in the scoring. It wouldn't make sense to pay off the commentators to create a winning atmosphere for a particular fighter without spreading the money around under the judges table.

@@peterhandy2551 UK ex-boxers are the worst. Why do you think a UK ex-boxer would be fair when a Brit is in the fight? If you don't think that Brit commentators are extremely biased maybe that's because you're just as biased as they are. Who won between Eubank and Saunders? How about between Eubank and Groves? I'll bet you have Eubank losing both, when in fact he won both. The most outrageous bias was Eubank vs Nick Blackwell. Watch it and tell me the commentators weren't biased. They had the fight 3-2-1 after 6 rounds. Eubank won every round in the fight easily. At the end former Brit fighter Richie Woodall said, 'let's face it, Blackwell was always in the fight'. He was never in the fight, not from the first minute of the first round.

Kostya's usual weight draining from 80+ kgs down to 63.5 seems to finally catch up with him this fight - he didn't have the crisp, sharp laser-guided right hand to nail Hatton who was jumping in - it was clear also that Tzsyu didn't have his legs under him for much of this fight as he tried to pivot away from Hatton's battery of frontal assaults, yet Hatton dug in and ground Kostya down. Despite this fight which was played at 2am in front of a very hostile crowd Tzsyu ought to go down as one of best of all time 140 pounders.

Hatton was the best fighter of his generation at 140. Pacman and mayweather were 2 of the p4p greats of all time, he went up in weight to fight them both. Fantastic fight. Pound for pound Ricky Hatton was a magnificent brawler. Physically very very strong, rough and unrelenting. Think about the only time his style didn't work in his prime was against 2 of the greatest fighters in our generation. Not bad, not bad at all lad. He almost troubled Mayweather with that rough style in the beginning of the fight until the ref kept interfering and didn't allowed him to fight his fight, that discombobulated Ricky. What Ricky should have probably done was to dismiss the ref and continue doing what he's doing disqualification or whatnot because if he can't fight as Ricky Hatton it might have been better not to fight at all. With Pacquiao fight, It's just too much for him. He was getting hit with so much clean heavy punches when he tried to get inside. Pacquiao was too accurate--just too good for him. But it's okay, he was dealing with one of the greatest fighter in the history of boxing.

Lmao that 'referee' excuse is only viable for the first 2 rounds and then he let them get on with it on the inside, but Floyd was constantly catching Hatton with clean counters on his way in and by the middle of the fight it was actually Floyd who was roughing up Hatton on the inside and doing the better work up close - Floyd beat him at his own game.
