You have teachers like Danaher, Ribeiro bros, Chris Haueter then you have Renzo and Royler Gracie, Pedro Sauer who are on a higher level. Then comes Jean Jaques Machado an Mauricio Gomes who are above them. Then you have Rickson who they all see as their teacher or example.

Re reading his book breathe. Good book, would love a bibliography with it to look more into his breathing, meditation and other techniques (there was one that he said helped him where you emulate animal movements). He seems like he’d be very intimidating to work with though, kind of felt sorry for that girl who seemed a little bit confused a few times about what he wanted lol.

Most arts have an invisible component. But, few people can appreciate and grasp it. One way to get a bit closer to it is to recognize that it’s not about a technique but about some basic principles. Once you understand the principles, you can apply them to many situations.

Actually, the instructions were somewhat inefficient; I have seen a world champion black belt not be able to follow the simplest verbal directions when in front of an audience and trying to process instructions under stress. It is far better to demonstrate and model in-the-moment than explain. But excellent stuff.

I really appreciate Rickson share the knowledge! I practiced taiji and southern praying mantis before, honestly I never understood the ground game why ppl want to learn wrestling... but actually watching UFC and mma I started to understand and want to learn myself too. I have a question if I may ask here. So the girl's breathing sounds right in the meaning when she exhale, but Why she has to make actual sound of it? With all in my knowledge it is bad for her health... or is it just for practicing as showing, signing to Rickson how she does it when she exhales? I'm not sure why it is bad, but every master I learned from said it is wrong, we had to breath as silence we could... Im imaging the taoist view like every living creature has an amount of heart beat and breath, of course you have to use more to build your muscles but using it in an excessive way lead to disharmonic state.

This brings up the thing of why the Gracies did not perfect their throwing techniques working off all the knowledge they have in jiu jitsu? As judokas have very good throws as a sport, but it'd seem the Gracies would have lead throws to evolving as well. Of course just get them to the ground it's over, however, as Kitoryu jiu-jitsu it's said to fed the throwing styles of Kodokan judo. Which their jiu jitsu is said to be real jiu jitsu totally disconnected from the Kodokan as I understand it. There's the sport version, but I'd want to know the actual jiu jitsu they learned so well.

Exhaling is very important in GJJ, getting rid of CO2 buildup in the body which also results in lactic acid buildup, which in turn causes your muscles to stiffen. Every instance people push or pull they have a tendency to hold their breath, increasing CO2 & lactic acidosis. Basic physiology 101. So, she breathes that way, taught to her by Rickson, to keep everything in check. My instructor trained with Rickson many years ago and he took was taught the same breath control, as he taught us similarly.

It’s good breathing but whistling like this it’s ridiculous. He forgot that when he was a champ he did not have such breathing. They did not even repeat before it’s like a guru! There is nothing fun here she has full of stress! You can not even say something contrary.I think also he is not polite with her ans the minimum is to present her to people watching. It’s better to take a black belt.
