Rick Steves Art of the Baroque Age
Rick Steves' Europe © 2023 | In the 1600s and 1700s, the art of "divine" kings and popes-and of revolutionaries and Reformers-tells the story of a Europe in transition. In the Catholic south, Baroque bubbled over with fanciful decoration and exuberant emotion. In the Protestant north, art was more sober and austere. And in France, the excesses of godlike kings gave way to revolution, Napoleon, and cerebral Neoclassicism. Rick Steves is the type of show I dreaded my dad putting on when I was younger. Now I love it and could watch it all day. Funny how that works.

Afraid the youth today, wouldn't even hangout with dad, even if he watched Rick on KZread on a 55 inch smart TV. They would choose to isolate themselves with mindless tick tock on their phones. It's sad 😢
Another incredibly good, non elitist, clear, easy to understand, informative, well put together, upbeat, relaxed, first class documentary on art. A masterpiece itself.....and he even plays the piano like a pro.
Rick Steves is the man.

I remember when he was just a young adult, a verifiable hippie. Great guy all-around. I'd feel relaxed doing psilocybin with him.
Ok ! Wow such a talented man, he plays the piano too !
I wish Rick's scholarly, fun, kindly video-musical-discussions of art and architecture and history had been available to me during my formal education. He nails the essence and spirit everytime, succintly, memorably, sweetly and with kindness and magnaminity every time. You really should package these on a few DVDs for high school and college humanities and sciences studies. Whenever I want a break or inspiration or just some positive fun, I'll watch one of Rick's videos or just a few minutes. I know I'll always have an accurate view of reality, clear understanding and a dose of Rick's goodness, humanity and natural spirituality. His work is good service.
Rick Steve’s european travel documentary is the best, no doubt about it. very insightful and rich of knowledge and history
… and you play piano, too?! You’re too much. I loved this one. Thank you
really happy to find this mental escape today! Steves is pleasant and so professional in his tours.
😂😂😂 Unbelievable. 4th new Rick Steves episode in 1 day.
Thank you Rick steves for such beautiful documentary congratulations
I'm proud to be a Catholic. But I admired the protestant emphasis on realism and simpleness.

Excellent review..thank you Rick Steves...
Love your art video n description
The title music in the recent episodes suit very well when it comes to defining the indoor architecture and the earlier one suits well for the outer scenario !😊

Thank you, mister Steves, super-interesting! Danielle, from Montréal
Those vivid blues and reds in baroque art are so energizing and beautiful!! I got to go inside the dome of St.Paul's in 1974. You could clear hear the whispered words of someone on the other side of the dome!
Very clear and understandable video. Thanks
Thank you for posting this video, I appreciate it. I love Rick Stevens travel shows and Art shows, they are informative and entertaining, I love them, enjoy them immensely. Be safe, healthy and healthy. Jesus Christ loves you ❤️ God bless you 🙏
If you enjoyed Rick's presentation, as much as I did; check out Anglo-Polish art critic, Waldemar Januszczak, and his in-depth 3 part series on the Baroque...
I wonder if someone knows who could possibly had crafted, built, decorated with gold, composed, painted and carved all that in just of two centuries. I mean every single piece must be invented, designed, produced, assembled, delivered and placed beautifully. I mean every single stage requires equipment, adjustments, tools, materials and energy. Etc., etc. Very complicated process.
Thank God for Rick Steves.
Great summary. I love it
Very nice looking beautiful temple amen merry Christmas and happy New 🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent, as always!
❤❤❤❤
Great music at the Rembrandt part. ❤ What’s that music ? Can I find it somewhere?
Thes could be used in the classroom as overviews.
Oh, I think you have to use the green chair. Ive grown quite fond of it and it doesn’t fit in that bedroom I think you’re spot on there. If it is as comfortable as it looks, sit in it a lot😁
So sort of a Baroque / Rococo 2-fer, eh? Nice!
Please -- can anyone tell me the artist of the painting at 25:34 ?
I find it hard to believe that anyone could have a hard time appreciating a baroque cathedral. But there you go, I guess that's your mind on Protestantism.

Napoleon wasn't a ''Tyrant". He was a brilliant defender of France from anty-France coalitions (which it's started before of him as even a general). By his genious reformations France and Europe transformed into much liberal way as never before. Your attandance to Napoleon is unprofessional and ungreatfull. Im regreet i spent time to watch this.
