He’s the first one to say, get a job so your art can be free. I agree with him. So many creators have been miserable or given up because they were taught your creativity has to pay for your life, or you’re no good.

I think this is a limiting belief that will have most people have their art as a side job. Nothing wrong with that if that’s what you want, but there is always a way to monetize your art.

@@allstrongfitness there are so many artists struggling, many went to art schools and they find it hard to survive and pay their bills. Sure, you can make your art more appealing to a bigger audience, make it more commercial....but then it's not art anymore, it's not who you are, not authentic, not what you actually want to create. You are a craftsman, a cookie cutter like Rick said, not an artist. Not all art is appealing for a greater audience. And art that does sell, the competition is enormous. To be able to sell consistantly but still stay true to yourself as an artist, your work has to be really original or very appealing(originality not necessary). If you want to be a real artIst and make the work you like instead of pleasing the audience, if you want to be free in your expression, the best way is to have a source of income outside of art creating( art related or not) to be able to continue to create without the stress of thinking how to pay your next bill. Meanwhile, keep on making art and sharing it, finding new ways to make a living also fom you art and eventually the hard work will pay off (or not). Some artists (many) got recognition much later, sometimes even after death, because real artists, courageous artists are usually ahead of their time.

You want to know a language that will give you depth whereby you'll be able to figure out hidden meanings? Classical Arabic. Arabic has diacritics and dots, but in the past, they used to write Arabic without diacritics and dots. If you learn Arabic, then learn it first with dots and diacritics, but if you're done, then go to the next level by understanding Arabic without diacritics and dots. This way you will maximize your depth. Your contextual comprehension will become better. Why is this? For example; without dots, the Arabic B, T and TH look exactly the same. So if you read without dots, you'll have to figure out the context by digging. It's like a code language. A secret language. Lots of letters will resemble each other without dots in Arabic. Classical Arabic without dots makes you dig, and this is good for creativity.

Write the characters you want to be, you want to interact with, you want to know... the ones that you're in love with- even the antagonists.

Rick Rubin has such a gift for expressing the often unconscious thoughts and feelings behind the creative process... As a musician myself I constantly find him to be constantly expressing things I'd never outwardly verbalised or even internally conceptualised, yet when he says them it strikes such a deep chord of resonance and truth.

I ran into to these videos looking up what is happiness trying to help my sister find happiness. And i here and believe in all you talk about. I started listening to Jake Ducey, Wayne Dyer, Bob Proctor, Les Brown. As a man Thinkith by James Allen. And more i am convinced tha we have been programmed to think and be a someone we were but i always knew i was different and refused to act and think the way they wanted me too, i try to get my kids to watch these videos. I have been watching everyday since 2018 and even watch the same ones over and over and practice these methods. And have manifested results due tomy way of thinking. Thanks again.

I kept skipping this because I thought it was just going to be about recording and producing. It popped up out of nowhere and I decided to listen a few minutes. I’m about ten minutes in and I can tell this is going to be a good one. Same happened earlier with the base player for the police. It popped up out of nowhere and was one the best interviews I’ve watched in a long time.

@lewishowes this might be my favorite so far! Thank you! Every one I listen to ends up bring my new favorite. Thank you for bring one of my health coaches, just by simply sharing your school of greatness. I'm 35, my mom committed suicide on 10/11/23, then on 11/5/23 after running a 9 minute mile (not my fastest) I sustained a vertebral artery dissection, blood clot, and stroke. I have three young boys. I will get thru this. But YOU have helped me tremendously by having these beautiful souls on your show. Please don't stop. Talk soon, your friendly neighborhood stroke mom ❤

What a timing! Thank you Lewis and Rick for this motivational & uplifting conversation. Lately I've been feeling like I'm on some crossroad as I was slowly loosing my inspiration and started giving up from my creative practice. Around the same time, Rick's book really caught my eye in a bookstore, and since have been seeing it almost anywhere I go. As if that wasn't enough of the sign, this video confirmed it! I'm really looking forward to reading the book now, and thank you again for creating amazing content Lewis 🙏😌

Rick Ruben seems like the person I have been seeking my whole life with my music. There's just something in the way he talks, that dances with my soul. Like I have gone my whole life never having been heard, but for some reason in my mind, he would hear me.

OMG, I clicked on this video because I wanted to see how two Pisces men talk to each other and then you both mentioned it in the middle of the conversation. I was just shocked that you were aware of that and I felt like I was trying to hide behind a curtain, but was found out and called out. Although, should have learnt by now that Pisces will shock you, no matter how soft-spoken or gentle they are. I personally love Pisces. Happy New Year everyone!! 💖
