Cutter's Way needs a Criterion! Great film. Criminally underrated.

Loved to see Criterion give Cutter's Way some respect.

I was disappointed on the first watch a few years ago after searching high and low for it, I rewatched it tonight and I loved it.

I am beating myself over the head for not knowing anything about this film.....I had always connected The Long Goodbye to The Big Lebowski without ever hearing anything about Cutter's Way, caught it on Criterion channel and holy fuck what a great flick and Heard is amazing. Definitely a huge source for the coen brothers. Man, what a shame Heard did not get better roles.

Although I’ve only seen this and Long Goodbye once, each, this was much better to me. I wouldn’t have predicted that, considering the greatness of Altman and Gould

Wonderful film - just seen it at BFI Southbank, London. The seventies were a great period of American film-making...

I wish I lived in Austin. This film in particular holds a special memory for me. The marching band in the parade sequence is my high school marching band. I'm in the line of trumpet players. The few days spent shooting that scene were really eye opening for me. I never realized before that how much work was involved in shooting a movie. I just thought stuff happened and someone filmed it and then we watched it. There was a huge photo of me in the Santa Barbara News Press the morning after the first day of shooting, sitting on the curb holding my trumpet and hugely yawning. When I first saw the film, I found it super creepy when Cutter is watching our majorette go by and remarks that he'd like to hit that. When our band director first told us that we were going to be in a movie and that it was titled Cutter and Bone, our first reaction was that we were going to be extras in a trashy horror film.

I happened to spend my honeymoon in Santa Barbara a few years after the film was released. We were just driving around and had no plans to go anywhere in particular when I spotted a small sign that said "El Encanto". I had no idea it was a real place until then. We decided to eat dinner there (it was a high end French restaurant at the time) and wound up sitting in front of Larry from Three's Company. LOL

Shout out to “The Cinema Snob” and his retrospective of 1981 movies video. So far I’ve watched this and Thief based on his recommendation, and he’s 2/2

inane conversation . whatever happend to passer and ms eichorn ? I saw a film about class status and power. Silly question : did Cord really kill the victim ?... its unclear in the book as i recall.

I think it is deliberately left up to the reader/viewer to make their own decision as to whether or not Cord really killed the girl. It really isn't as important as the underlying message of what wealthy and powerful people can get away with.
