Richard Jefferson On Winning With LeBron, Losing To Kobe, Steph and Pop & Unpacking His Beef With JJ
Спорт
Welcome to a very special episode of The Old Man and The Three with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter. Today's guest is former NBA player, ESPN analyst and host of the Road Trippin' Richard Jefferson. This is one of our longest episodes ever so let's get to it. Topics include: Getting into podcasting and media, the early days of his player in-season podcast Road Trippin, the difficulties of actually winning a championship in The NBA, how he was sort of responsible for The Golden State Warriors dynasty, why Shaquille O'Neal (Shaq) was the most dominant player he's ever played against, who is on his Mount Rushmore of NBA greats. Why Magic Johnson is the greatest Laker ever (according to RJ), how Michael Jordan changed the NBA for everyone, RJ reflects on his New Jersey Nets teams, why he despises The New York Knicks, how he got into broadcasting, reflecting on just how dominant LeBron James was in the 2016 NBA Finals against Stephen Curry and The Golden State Warriors, how he evolved his game by becoming a 3-point shooter, why The Denver Nuggets have the most pressure on then to win the NBA Championship this year, why he's picking The Milwaukee Bucks to win it all and so much more.

They'd fit great with Channing Frye and Jamal Crawford imo. They'd have great chemistry, and I think the only thing they don't have is a comparable level of success in the NBA compared to Shaq and Barkley.

I want to hear the full, unedited, uncut version of this episode. Another 30-40 minutes would be great to hear RJ and JJ riffing back and forth. The occasional shot to Tommy looking back and forth trying to determine if they’re actually bullying each other or if they’re close friends. It would be fantastic.

This is a classic. What a great episode. Besides hilarious, it’s insightful and simultaneously a masterclass in how to be funny.
RJ’s success has been quite underrated! National championship game Numerous finals runs with Nets and Cavs 20ppg scorer at one point Now wildly entertaining on tv and calling games, not to mention GOAT internet troll

RJ has a perfect personality for media. he's very eloquent and intelligent, thinks and speaks rationally and honestly. Love to see him popping up more.
I realy appreciated the Wilt disclaimer from Richard. People talking about player domination and never mentioning the (by the numbers and eyewitness accounts) most dominant player ever is ridiculous. But saying "i cant vouch for someone since i haven't watched him play, but i need to at least acknowledge him" is something i understand and respect.
@willspinner2968
Жыл бұрын
I get he is dominance in terms of the definition. BUT, context is always necessary, shaq was bullying better players. I have no doubt Wilt wouldn’t still be great, but we don’t know and that means the fact he played against plumbers does in fact exist. Shaq takes the mantle of say
this is by far, my favorite JJ episode. We need a part 2 with Richard and no time limit haha
The fact RJ doesn’t curse on network tv is amaaaaaaazing 😂
This is one of my favorite episodes. RJ is sarcastic which makes him so entertaining. The two of you are a great media Duo, and both are intellectual and articulate. Top teir content keep it up JJ, Tommy, and rest of the crew behind the scenes.

I love the chemistry between these two, so entertaining lol. RJ was such a great player. Solid role player later in his career and got to play with Steph and Lebron.
This dynamic is *amazing*. Watching too sharp, witty dudes go at each other with full respect is amazing. This is what First Take should be. XD

Probably my favorite episode so far. Lots of interesting NBA content while having a hilarious back and forth. The Shaq and Chuck comparison is very accurate.

Bro this duo was amazing. The ego battles back and forth made this so entertaining to watch.
Perfect combination of entertainment and a wealth of knowledge. You two are great together!
The emotion RJ has when he said "there is no F-ing guarding him (Shaq)". You can feel the frustration he still has remembering the futility it was to go against Shaq.

The chemistry is undeniable , this ep is a banger
So impressed with JJ’s knowledge of the game. Entertaining wisdom. Truly glad this is available. Loving the real game talk. Definitely enjoy RJ too, he’s got jokes and his delivery is smooth.
Mannnn this interview was amongst other things, motivational AF. I wasn't expecting that.

Nah there needs to be a part 2 of this. Amazing episode!
The back and forth shots, the break down of the Warriors dynasty and the retrospective takes was 🔥!
this is easily one of the most fun interviews yet. RJ and JJ's banter is hysterical.
Just hitting the doordash ad and I'm loving this combo of JJ and RJ. I would love to see them collab more. Instant win.
This is the future, I barely follow NBA, and two guys who love the game the way they do is contagious.
Someone somehow please put a show with the two of them. I can watch them banter all daylong

No lie, this was one of the most enjoyable sports podcasts I've ever seen. Comedy. Wit. Sports knowledge. History. Insider info. An appropriate amount of messing with eachother. If these two aren't in a TNT type scenario when I'm older, I'll be so angry 😅
