@@Sartjediebee Dawkins is very close minded as well. He really believes in the myth of natural selection. His pretension that beautiful creatures could only be designoid object only presenting an appearance of being intelligently design. I agree with Richard Dawkins views but I think we could have done better job. debating Wendy Wright. She does score some points by pointing out some errors in discoveries scientist had accepted. Further she prods Dawkins to provide evolution evidence which I don't feel a man of his excellent caliber does a good job providing in this beginning clip.

Time between begining of creation and beginign of destruction is kalpa (day of brahma) = 4.32 billion years Age of earth according to modern radiometric data is around 4.54 billion years(As you have quoted) Puranas quotes that currently we are in 7 th manvantara , 28th mahayuga of current kalpa. So age of earth = = 6 * Years for Manvantara + 28 * Years for mahayuga = 6 * 306.72mil + 28 * 4.32 mil = 1.92 billion years But I am not sure , why it would be roughly half estimated time by science. Puraans Quotes that currently we are in 7th manvantra, 28th mahayuga of current kalpa. So age of Earth = 7 * Years for Manvantra + 28 * Years for mahayuga = 7 * 306.72 million * 4.32 million = 1.969 billion years.

@Michael Brown I know. With all the archaeology alone, consistent with key Bible narratives, that's been found, the atheists prefer to live in denial. They prefer their junk science over the science of archeology. They deny how God could exist or perform supernatural acts. They deny forensic science evidence of the crucifixion and resurrection. I guess they figure if a majority concensus denies it all, heaven and hell and objective truth will not be so.

The most clueless man, actually. RD believes we got all this by...."literally nothing." Wendy believes we got all this by a supernatural creator. You are a tiny brain like RD admiring his patience. The 1LofT states that energy can't be created or destroyed, it can't happen naturally. One aspect of the 2LofT shows that the universe is winding down, usable energy is becoming less usable. It is clear creation had to be done supernaturally at some point yet it is still denied because people are just too proud to accept that, among other things.

+Baxter Stockman "The creationist is asking for evidence. Seems legit." - of course, evidence cuts both ways. Where is the evidence supporting the account in Genesis? - There isn't any. Whereas there are mountains of evidence supporting evolution, but a lot of it is very technical. The available evidence shows that the events in Genesis never happened. Even the Bible in Genesis, contradicts itself. Yet the omniscient, omnipotent god didn't notice and couldn't even proofread his silly book, which rather undermines the claims of omniscience or omnipotence.

I think it's an instinctive body-language reaction thing to be extremely uncomfortable around people when they do that. I'm sure there are experts out there who could explain it better, but it's very con-man-ish. It's like when you're talking to someone and they use your name in every sentence and nod their head constantly hoping you'll pick up on the sympathetic reflex. It's a giveaway that this person has had to employ subconscious manipulation as a coping mechanism... probably due to a total lack of self-esteem and confidence... or a person who knows they're being dishonest or their position is unfounded and is trying to win the day on charisma alone. Anybody with any life experience sees body language like that and immediately distrusts it.

Well, there must be valid evidence of Creationism and Intelligent Design if she is already accepting defeat to the point of advising all evolutionists not to debate because they'll lose!! I, for one, applaud Bill Nye for having the courage to debate Ken Ham of the Creation Museum this month. Why shouldn't atheist evolutionists answer and tell us their evidence!? If they want to teach it to all children, then answer the scientists who have alternative interpretations/explanations. How did you get around the first verses of the bible with God creating and giving life? Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. We KNOW these laws. We have NO doubts about them. We also KNOW that the laws of nature can't come about without a Lawgiver, God. So if you want to pretend to be smart, please give me the laugh by giving your science how creation really happened by natural means. Also, throw in how we got the laws of nature, naturally. Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis. Plus she's never studied evolution so she knows barley anything about it, plus she keeps saying there is no material evidence for evolution (even though there is tons) she keeps saying that DNA doesn't count as evidence (even though it does) she says that you're showing evidence to people who don't except it shows that it's false (it's not we can't make people take facts as facts) and the reason why the evidence for evolution is because they refuse to believe it, not because it isn't true. When they say show us the evidence science does it, they just refuse to believe it's evidence.

speciation is a fine example, there was an observation done on two groups of birds (I believe) that were geographically separated over many generations, and surprisingly enough the two groups were no longer able to reproduce with one another they had drifted to far genetically and were no longer compatible.. now imagine that occurring over millions of years, they would very different. to me, evolution is just an error in copying, sometimes it's beneficial sometimes not so much, if it happens enough you get a different creature. there are examples of evolution today in folks with genetic disorders, turns out some mutations may harm the organism in time but surprisingly protect against other maladies. some people have mutations in the shape of their red blood cells that actually protect against certain infections, bam evolution.. if you don't like the word evolution you can just call it "change" lol

I just don't think creationists understand evolution. One species does not turn into another overnight. It is gradual, slight mutations in DNA, which create slight differences until we classify them as different. Truly we are all the same, just with different mutations that branched from one organism that just happened over the long period of time to have the chemical make up to "live". How do you explain breeding of dogs? We rapidly evolve the dogs to new species through selective breeding, which in nature only occurs over long periods of time.

Religion is a huge & very profitable, very influential business. It has billions of believers & supporters & to maintain itself, it must keep the message attractive so the money keeps rolling in. Religion uses it's wealth to hire people like her, to defend it, they hire lobbyist to push for special treatment by governments & to get their beliefs taught in schools. Every major religion uses both bait, the empty promise of "heaven", & fear from the empty threat of the horrors of a "hell". Doesn't it seem odd that "hell" & it's horrors don't appear until the new testament & Jesus, the man who allegedly said he came to bring war? leon scott DNA and genetics have proven it a long long time ago. Cold hard facts, i suggest you read up on it beforte saying that there is no evidence. We are Primates. The end, Not hard to accept really. . . Unless you base your entire world view on a moldy, inconsistent, written by multiple people over a long stretch of time, book. That was written by people who had no knowledge about genetics, that had no knowledge about astronomy, that had no knowledge about science. In other words ignorant people, But hey you can not blame them right? No you can't, but you can blame the people who are alive at this day and age, for accepting those ancient falsehoods. So stop being ignorant, and learn a thing or 2. Knowledge is not dangerously, it is enlightening.

ray salmon The key sentence here "you don't think there is evo biology" . . It is not what you think, it is what has been presented by us through facts and repeatable science. How do you think we manufacture vaccines? How do you think we are able to study Neuroscience. So many crucial study area's depend on evolution. This is not a case of what we think as individuals, but was is reality. And reality may not always conform to our own beliefs. Beliefs are just that, beliefs. Facts however are proven things, things that have been tested, rigorously, by many different people. To all come to the same conclusion. The bible is a great piece of literature, it is a great epic. But should not ever be taken seriously or as a guideline. Never ever. Science may not hold the answer to everything, yet. But it is far better to just say, we do not know yet, instead of presuming an ever greater mystery. Do not see this as an attack on you as a person, i see no benefit in it what so ever. Reality is far more interesting than fantasy ever will be.

I spoke w a creationist once, a rather unfortunate discussion. He actually believed that the Earth was only 6,000 yrs old because that's when Adam and Eve were "put" on Earth, that even though they only had sons, we are all direct ancestors of the first humans, that the Earth was created before anything else in the universe, including light, and that the Earth was originally all water before "god" created land. What I learned was that a creationist, in order to believe all that nonsense, had to completely disregard almost all scientific findings and nearly all facts. They force themselves to believe that all scientists had no idea what they were talking about, because the only person who could possibly understand the universe was "god". It was very frustrating because no matter what fact or scientific law I presented him with, such as radiometric dating to prove the Earth was over 4 billion yrs old, he countered by calling them "facts" (he used parenthesis) and saying that I put to much faith into science. The worst part was his argument for creationism, was the exact argument he should have been using against it. It was like talking to a 6 yr old who couldn't understand simple concepts and their only defense when cornered with commonsense was, "nuh uh".

I have had many of those conversations as well... and correct me if I am wrong.. but my story about the rejection of faith (at least the books and common dogma's) allready began in early childhood. Call it a bullshit meter if you will, or call it a hunger for how the world really works. From early on I was interested in other cultures, dinosaurs, cosmos... so that when I had biblical class I allready disagread with the pastor telling me that man came from a rib, or that the earth was 10.000 year old (at that time I was eight or so). I even got expelled from class for that, and my parents where phoned that I disrupted his lecture and was a very bad boy. I couldn't know then that many other statements in the bible were also untrue. But from then on I knew that something was terribly dodgy with his teaching, and that the rest of his tellings were to be treated with great suspicion. The next weeks I started raising many conflicting questions to the pastor for which he didn't have an appropriate answer, further weakening his credibility. What still puzzles me to this day is: How is it possible that I had that as a kid.. that hunger for truth/science, or a high BS meter... wanting things to be crystal clear and backed up, longing for fair and universal truth for everyone. While others never seem to learn that, not as a kid, not as an adult. And want their believes to be the truth. The solving of religion has to be found in that psychological tendency I believe. Actually Sam Harris is doing a research on that... why people reject science/universal truths.. even if it's made crystal clear.. and prefer to believe in false things. That rejection is the pathology about it, and I believe we should treat it as such.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I started believing in god not because I was actively taught there was a god but because my parents believed there was and it just rubbed off on me through prayers, such as god bless mommy and daddy and general comments made that implied god existed. When I was around 6 or 7, and since we were Catholic my parents started me in CCD, which of course is the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. We never went to church except for Christmas and Easter and it is was more on the demand of my grandmother, but my parents wanted to have an understanding of our religion, which was good in a way because I am now educated on religion and I'm not just making blind observations and judgments. I don't remember exactly when I started having doubts, but I remember it first started when I had doubts about the doctrine of the catholic church and I do remember that by the time I was confirmed by the church I had serious doubts that God existed. It seemed that the more I learned, the more questions I had, and the less sense religion made. As I got older and further from the church, it was like I was able to see a bigger picture, I was on the outside looking in now. I learned that when you are active in church it's like constant brainwashing. You can't see the forest for the trees, and every tree was someone or something reaffirming god's existence. Free of the mental constraints formed by religion I was able to ask my own questions and doing my own research and the things I learned quickly began adding up and disproving the things I learned from the bible. I'm now so far removed that I'm able to form my own conclusions and find religious people almost laughable because of their ignorance. What saddens me is how they can't see how crazy and at times stupid they appear by the things they say and do. I think creationism is the pinnacle of religious ignorance because to believe it means you have to completely disregard real, tangible facts and evidence. Even common sense tells you that the Earth is older than 6,000 yrs old. So you have to be either brainwashed or a complete idiot to believe that every person on Earth are ancestors to Adam and Eve, even though they only had sons. Separation from religion will benefit all of mankind, it will alleviate this kind of superstition and basically take the blinders off.

I guess that depends on what you consider evidence. And valid, verifiable evidence is devoid in the bible. The parts of the bible were compiled hundreds of years after Jesus died, from stories that were supposedly written by eyewitnesses but none of them can be substantiated. Many stories were only passed down through word of mouth and there's no telling how much the original version changed as it was told from person to person. What's funny is that the U.S. Court of Law won't allow hearsay, yet some people base there entire belief system on what some people said happened over 2,000 yrs ago. If I were to tell you about talking donkeys, walking on water, rising from the dead, and parting seas, you'd think I was full of shit, but a couple of tax collectors and fishermen who lived thousands of years ago tell it and now millions of people accept it as fact.

Steven C Yes, so even more respect to you because you were part of a the church (or doctrine as they rightfully call themselves). And you managed to break free.. however, I have a friend who had it pretty bad during his struggle to make peace with his indoctrinated upbringing. In the end he ended up with this modified personalised christian god. Somewhat more too buddhism, and based on the values. I don't even mind the stupidity of many religious folks... I am also stupid on many subjects.. (I can't fix my car for instance, or bake bread, or do mathemathics). But I have encountered so many remarks/judges by christians that I am not a good person, or that I will go to hell.... even had 2 christian girlfriends which went bad because of it (family disaproving, stating I will go to hell, or won't raise my kids right). So in that sense the consequences of religion are very real in my life, and absolutely not in a positive way. And the people who make those claims don't really care for everyone on the planet, don't really care for the environment, they didn't study social work or practice it. They didn't went on voluntary programs to Africa like I did. They just cannot seem to grasp the fact that you could be a very good human being if you don't believe in God. And in a way you cannot reason with them. You cannot even defend yourself in a proper way. So in that regard I see religion in the same way as for instance the slavery, racism/apartheid. Which were also based on very unfair and unscientific claims, but people acted accordingly to it. And then you begin to see the sheer narcisism that is involved with religious folks. ''I believe in God, and I have eternal life, I am saved so therefore I am perfect'' And all the people who are less off than me... well that's obviously because God loves me more... the narcisstic stupidity, the unequality, and the different standards is what I find to be the saddest thing.

Questioning a scientist's ability to interpret scientific findings is like a store owner (with no legal education) trying to tell a lawyer how to handle a case. My Point: we all have the right to speak on any given "issue", but don't be so surprised when the people who are trained to operate within a field, are the ones who do it the most effectively.

Wright was interviewed by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins for his 2008 programme The Genius of Charles Darwin, in the episode entitled "God Strikes Back". Dawkins wrote of the exchange in his 2009 book, The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution. In a book review for The Guardian, Wright's dialogue with Dawkins led palaeontologist Richard Fortey to write that "one sympathises with Dawkins's attempt to talk evidence with convinced creationists" and that Wright "would have most rational souls tearing out their hair."Sarah Lyall of The New York Times said "it is as if [Wright] doesn't hear him". - Wikipedia's entry for Wenty Wright
