Many dyslexics are very good swimmers. I swam like a fish while in school and loved it.

It warms my heart to hear people talking about Dyslexia in such a positive way, As when I was in school I remember being told I was just thick and the help wasn't there. It took my Mum years to get someone to listen and get help. Keep up the great work.

My dyslexic thinking got me a degree in mathematics back in 1996, but now I been living in Germany for the last 10 years and I've been trying to learn German for about 7 years and it's not the type of thing I can delegate. So in a way Richard Branson is right about focusing on the things that you are good at, because my mathematics degree has got me a good career as a computer programmer (although I'm currently unemployed). But what Richard Branson said it's not always the case for example when the German language just makes absolutely no sense. It doesn't help that no part of adult education in Germany is focused at people with dyslexia or any learning disability. In fact the German teachers who teach adults have far lower qualifications than teachers who teach children. When I do find another job and I have the money to pay for German lessons, it just will not be possible to find any teacher in all of Germany who teaches adults German but also knows teaching methods used for people who have dyslexia. When I was a child living in Bristol the Thatcher government didn't recognise dyslexia so there was absolutely no help at school specific to dyslexia (just additional teaching by teachers who didn't know anything about dyslexia). But when I turned 18 and I was preparing to go to the University of Bristol I had some money from the LEA for a computer and help from someone who was a dyslexic specialist, so I had the money. But in Bristol at that time there was one school for children who were 5-11 years old and they told me that they couldn't help me and no help was available. So although when I was 18 years old I had the money to get help that help didn't exist. However at that dyslexia school for 5-11 year olds the teacher showed me around and then sat me down in a chair which was too small and she talked through different teaching methods used for dyslexic children, (which I didn't write down). But I was just amazed that when a school teacher is educated to understand dyslexia they can use different teaching methods to help the students rather than learning being more like banging your head against a wall. So going back to the topic of me living in Germany and wanting to learn German, I know that if the German adult education system did try to help adults with dyslexia then they would have teachers who know those specialist learning techniques, but the the German adult education system offers absolutely no help to adults who have dyslexia. The German adult education system for learning German is based purely on profit. Teachers are qualified to read out of a book and that's the limit of their qualification, teachers are not qualified to design a lesson. And considering how basic the level of training for the teachers is it is really amazingly expensive for the lessons. It would be different if the teachers for adults learning German had complex qualifications but that is not the case. I'm not going to find a teacher who has studied educational psychology, how to design new lessons, and teaching methods for dyslexic students.

What level of German language learning have you been able to achieve? What helps you the most? I have the same problems with learning a foreign language, and I am trying to develop a methodology that would be suitable for people with difficulties in learning a foreign language due to dyslexia. Therefore, your experience is valuable to me, and if you shared it, I would be very grateful to you.

I got diagnosed at 53 (1 year ago). Thanks for raising theses points, I am hopeful future generations get the help they need ❤️

Not about not being good at school depends what and how your are learning regardless of the teaching methods who attempts torote learn anyway ??
