Richard Ashcroft - The Drugs Don't Work (Acoustic) - Live in San Francisco
Музыка
Richard Ashcroft - The Drugs Don't Work (The Verve song) (Acoustic) - San Francisco, Live, 5-10-18, 1st row, The Masonic. Richard: ‘Woke’… I want to kill that word off tonight. lol
Other Tidbits:
Richard Ashcroft and Liam Gallagher embarked on a week’s worth of North American concert dates together, starting in San Francisco. For this very short tour, the former lead singers for Oasis and The Verve will specifically play San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston, New York (Central Park SummerStage) and Philadelphia.
Richard later came out to take pictures with the fans, which was very nice. One fan even got a funny picture with Ashcroft holding up his t-shirt which features a picture of Ashcroft wearing a t-shirt which features a picture of Ashcroft, which features a picture of Ashcroft wearing a t-shirt which features a picture of Ashcroft, lol. They also sold posters which had the same Droste effect or Ashcroft’s picture recursively appearing within itself. :P
Oakland native Steve Wyreman, joined Richard for the final 4 songs. Steve also has got a feature in Ashcroft’s new upcoming album this September. RA was scheduled to play in SF last year at the Mezzanine, but the show was cancelled due to illness. Everyone was excited to see him as well as LG.

Right on brother, I was 27 years sober and slipped, sober again. Always work at it for your kids.
Ashcroft is, and in my opinion, has been for sometime, the most underrated working musician. Great, consistent voice, heart felt lyrics. For anyone aware of his catalogue of songs and albums appreciate him for the legend he is.

Ashcroft knows how to pen a tune, but his production and understanding of how to compliment a song with talented musicians has been long gone since the Verve days. Nick McCabe held his songs together.

Loved this song in the 90s, and after 2020 it became the anthem I used to steady my brain. Such a beautiful song.
one of the great heart felt love songs
My favourite song ever Richard is just pure class. He is one underrated singer in the UK.

The beginning of this video was the first time I heard him not singing.
I'm an admirer from an earlier generation. Richard Ashcroft is easily as brilliant as John Lennon was. Stay in your truth, young man.
After this speech I love this man
Boy, what he said in the beginning applies now more than ever. The greatest.
I respect this man even more now.
He’s in a great “head space” right now...great to see him doing so well. Fucking cool guy.
Evokes so many emotions. This is about his father passing. I was 18 when Urban hymns was released and this was number 1. I losted my dear mum when I was 15 from the same terrible disease has Richards dad. Cancer. She was 43. Beautiful dedication this is and obviously we can all interpret the song how we see fit. I've been clean for 2 years now from the brown. Music saves lives.
Its 2024.... Silk the best song 💯 drugs don't work. 🙌
He explained publicly what he learned in this life. Few people will understand but he knows that someone will. Great man.
This guy is really one of a kind. Genius

Martin Canosa Lopez amen!
There is no end to this man's talent. Yes, on one hand I agree that he is underrated, but on the other hand there is a quote by the man himself - 'the right people like me and the right people don't like me'.
This song really does something to my soul
Ashcroft such an icon..im ex vet & his lyrics are so insperational whilst im on recovery with ptsd! thanks Rich

Amazing words!
• Highly Underestimated • DEFINITELY ONE of the GREATEST SONGWRITERS of ALL TIMES !!!!!
A true singer - songwriter. His talent is limitless.
The passion in his words are still alive today. Pure legend.
Love this man...❤❤
Clearly, this is a subjective statement, but I think Richard Ashcroft is the greatest vocalist in rock & roll I have ever heard. The level of control this cat has is exceptional.

One of the top voices on the planet. Love this bloke!
The man. The myth. THE LEGEND
amazing musician and songwriter, but an even greater man.
I was a fan of the verve at school and ever since. But only after watching this have I realised how good Richard Ashcroft actually is. His voice is amazing. He’s inspired me to buy an acoustic guitar and start learning his songs.
That voice still gets me after all the time.blessings RA
I have been studying guitar and music for a number of years. It has been an incredible journey as on the way I have discovered lots of new artists and bands that I potentially wouldn’t have. I can honestly say that in my opinion, The Verve/Richard Ashcroft have wrote some of the best music I have ever heard. Though there are many great bands and artists, The Verve/Richard Ashcroft always gets played on my phone. Great music never gets old, just the musicians get old. But their music will always be here. I have read lots of different articles with regards to the meaning off these lyrics. People have their opinions. Richard once said they don’t mean anything and are open to interpretation. But my interpretation of these lyrics are that the drugs he is referring to are the drugs used to treat cancer. “The drugs don’t work they just made you worse.’ And “like a cat in a bag waiting to drown’ I think is very accurate when describing somebody sadly suffering from this illness. “I hope you’re thinking of me as you they down on your side’ I always visualise somebody suffering in bed and somebody is visiting them In hospital. Just my interpretation, either way it is still one of the greatest songs ever writing.

To me 'a cat in a bag waiting to drown' is just about how I felt as an addict, fucking useless and waiting to die. Beauty of art is you interpret it any way you want, there is no wrong or right.

Richard Ashcroft is a legend
He speaks the truth... couldn't be better said. A true artist and legend, standing up for what he believes in!
Every single time he sings this, wow, it’s just perfect, like he doesn’t even need to try…😍
Greatest songwriter ever !!!
One of the most underrated musicians in the UK. A fabulous body of work, with yet more freshly out right now. I don't even know what my favourite Ashcroft track is, there's so many belters. Long may it continue.
I was at the show and Richard did a phenomenal job. It perhaps wasn't Liam's best performance. But, on balance it isn't fair to say he "blew Liam out of the water." Liam came out with a full band and had to sing on top of all of that density - it wasn't a good setup to showcase his voice. Richard's setup - just a man and a guitar, by design is always going to sound soulful. Long live Richard and Liam - legends and rock n roll stars!

This is my song for my mum RIP beautiful. It hits as hard now as when she passed. I've never heard a lyric convey the emotion of panic and helplessness as well as "like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown"

He nailed it...... death sells. he has a family so he isnt attractive to the evil industry
I can still remember this show like it was yesterday! Simply amazing, the Masonic in SF is truly one of the best sounding venues in music and Richard sounded so good.
Me encanta Richard Ashcroft eres lo mejor.🎵🎶😘
Legend. I appreciate his work even more in 2020 than I did back then.

please upload all the songs he played this night, the quality and proximity to him make these an absolute treasure! many thanks for uploading these :)
Im here! And so are you!
He's an under appreciated legend. But legends never die. They are never forgotten like some of these artificial pop stars.
What a natural talent up there with the best of them
What he says before the gig is right - take heed younger generation coming through. The Verve were a band I looked up to as a 14 year old lad and I look back now and I'm happy I was into these bands when I was a snot nosed hoodlum that turned out alright hahaga just a beer bellied balding man with a 4 piece family. God bless you all like Richard said
That was fucking beautiful. Lucky people seeing Richard and Liam together again. The best concert of my life was The Verve/ Oasis in Earls Court London 1997. I was 16. Never loved a gig so much as that one.

Thanks for uploading! I was hoping someone captured his statements before this song.
All this talk of getting old It's getting me down my love Like a cat in a bag Waiting to drown This time I'm comin' down And I hope you're thinking of me As you lay down on your side Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again But I know I'm on a losing streak 'Cause I passed down my old street And if you wanna show Then just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, ooh If heaven calls I'm coming, too Just like you said You leave my life I'm better off dead All this talk of getting old It's getting me down my love Like a cat in a bag Waiting to drown This time I'm comin' down Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, ooh If heaven calls I'm coming, too Just like you said You leave my life I'm better off dead But if you wanna show Just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again I'm never going down, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down, I'm never going down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
