I'm just a stoner, but Rich is such an inspiration to be sober. He makes me want to quit coffee and tea as well. I feel like in the next 10-20 year's, there will be more Rich Rolls! He's such an inspiration.

This is so inspirational for me... I am vegan but also alcoholic, his story is so much like mine, I was an excellent student in high school and did well until college I started to derail but still kept it together and graduated, now I am 25 in a sound engineering school and need to get a job, make connections/friends and pursue my dream in music but I feel disconnected from myself. Thank you for this video!

Wherever you are today Lillian don't ever give up. AA works for me; whatever works there are people who will never judge you, out of gratitude for the gift of honesty will listen when you need it most === and as my sis said, sober 30 yrs, last house on the block. Don't let go of those dreams!

Rich Roll rocks, he is a great inspiration for me. I am overweight, 60 and have totally blown out knees which are bone on bone. I used to weigh over 400 pounds and I am now down to 290 pounds. I need to be 275 pounds in order to get my first of two knee replacement surgeries. I am eating a whole foods plant-based diet. My downfall is exercise, it's hard to get motivated to exercise when you are in severe pain and depressed. But guys like Rich Roll, David Goggins and Anthony Robbins are great inspiration and motivators. Monday I am starting my TRX and stationary bootcomp. I know what I have to do, I just need to get off of my ass and do it! I am over 4 years and 4 months clean and sober and a CCAR Certified Recovery Coach.

Rich’s book/journey was the inspiration and support that got me through my first year of sobriety. I had no intention of ever running an ultra, but three weeks before my 10-months of being clean, I found myself registering for a 50k and by my first year, I had completed it. He has been such a hero to me and so many. And Jonathan, your podcast got me through some really dark times six years ago when I would walk to work because I had lost my license to a DUI. Your inspirational conversations with world-shakers stirred me to want to be a better person and helped me to see a light that I didn’t think was there at the time. I appreciate, admire and thank you both so, so much. 🙏🏻🤍

"Be in gratitude. Be of service." It feels so hokey and like something you'd read on a motivational poster but it's physiologically sound. When you're thankful and when you do good for others, your brain lets up on that karmic debt that you feel you owe to yourself and others. It gives you mental space to be free and grow and move around.

Wow....This is so amazing. I'm so envious of Rich and can relate to so many things that he shares..... I'm 37 and I've decided to change to a plant-based life-style 6 weeks ago.... I have so much to learn... I also carry impossible dreams that long to come true. I've had these dreams since I was a kid. I was Chronically ill for the past 12 years. Was praying and looking for a way to feel myself again. Was doing research on behalf of my dad that has cancer and diabetes. Then I discovered the 'Plant-based diet'! My dad hasn't caught onto it yet, so instead I decided to experiment with it myself. After just 2 weeks I was schocked at my high energy levels and all the changes that I noticed in my body. Thank you guys for doing this interview....and thank you Rich for being so transparent and inspiring people like us to become all that we were meant to be.... Hope that one day I can do the same, and leave behind a legacy for my kids to remember.

I've had a similar experience with raw vegan food and running. I had so much energy that I went for a run at midnight and I ran 10k veeery easy, whereas on a normal day I would struggle through 5k. Gonna get some kale and spinach!

Great interview. Rich was fortunate that he had the backup($) to spend 100 days in a rehab clinic. Most alcoholics and drug addicts don't have that same luxury and they end up homeless and on the streets. I'm surprised this was never brought up in this interview.

I admire your achievements Rich in sports. It is impossible to have something happened without a cause. You own the listeners an explanation on the causes of the downside of your life. It will be very good for you to tell the audience the causes after you decided to do it. It will release yourself for whatever had happened and it won’t do any harm to anyone including you! The listeners can learn from you definitely. Buddha taught us to be honest, pure, fair, have right view, have compassion and kindness, achieve realization, let go, let it be, keep your faith. Each and everyone of these will work against you if you practise the opposite! Wishing you all the best Rich.

I know Rich Roll has been candid in this way also more recently but I really wanted to honour his candour and emotional bravery; yes major endurance athlete but if you're fucked up in your mind the building blocks to reach that level of following your bliss -- Joseph Campbell was not a waste of time by any means -- it won't happen. So much to take away from this interview. I'm bipolar -- so is Stephen Fry; addiction doesn't always go hand in hand with this cycling of dopamine and the absence of foreign substances (booze was the biggy) but in my case, certainly did and healthy veganism and a great shrink plus in my own minor way doing laps in a pool which may be nothing compared with what this man does -- saved my life. Still try to edit myself, rabbit on but this interview was inspiring.

Rich Roll includes coconut oil and other oils in his diet, but isn't oil 100% refined fat? Why would a super athlete like Rich who's so switched on in the area of nutrition, want to include oils and other products which also contain oils such as veganaise? All the major plant based doctors such as Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, Micheal Greger, John Mcdougall, Dean Ornish etc. recommend not including oil in one's diet as it offers no nutritional benefits whatsoever and 100% of calories are coming from fat. Can someone please shed some light on this issue? Thank you.

Impressive what he's done, but I kinda think most of these people like Roll do this only so they can have these sort of movie-like, showbiz-like sitdown interviews where they talk about their life. Like that's what their whole deal is, trying to turn their life into a movie. It's impressive, but weird at the same time. And I for some weird reason never trust a man who seems so wholesome, peaceful, positive. Like something about that in this world seems just off to me. Not in the sense that you just have to be grim, foul mouthed and brooding, but I like men more on the cynical, grumpy side. A guy like this to me strikes me as someone who's pushing away reality so he can feel like a teenager in his 50s.

To be this educated and self accomplished and knowledgeable, I find it ridiculous that Richard roll believes that alcoholism is a disease. There is mental illness there is emotional instability. There are all kinds of things that are part of our biology, but we were not born with alcohol in our bodies. Disease is a breakdown of something internal.
