Amen! Rich's music, along with the incomparable Keith Green, forged the path .. my lifelong journey to follow King Jesus Christ. I was heartbroken, at both of their passings, while humbled at their lifelong passion for God. Loved their transparent talk about God, injecting a good sense of humor which, irrefutably, God Himself certainly has as well.

I was saved the year Rich died. I sang Awesome God every day. I went to buy his album or cassette. I told the girl at the desk I can’t wIt to see him live, and she was like, “you don’t know do you?” I was like know what? They said he died in a car accident a few months back. I was crushed however his music lives on in me even to 2020 and this Corona 19 junk. Gloria Deo!

I've never been very caught up when a celebrity passes, as I don't know them. It was all different with Rich Mullins. I remember getting the news that day in my college dorm. I freely admit I still shed tears but I know it's selfish. I long for more of his music, but I know when the time is right I will sing to God with Rich. (I can only hope God is tone deaf!) This music has given me strength through nearly dying of anorexia, through recovery and now 18 years as a wife and mother. It helped me persevere while recovering from more than three dozen surgeries, multiple resuscitations, coming off a ventilator and learning to live again. I am fascinated, truly astonished and blessed as well that the music of one man can reach my heart in all circumstances.

I think of the time of his passing and I was 500 miles from home living in a terrible place in Oregon pondering suicide or at the very least my lack of being what I thought I should be in life. When I listen to If I Stand, the lyrics just remind me that I should be looking heavenward and not staring at my own problems. I almost feel bad sometimes when I draw inspiration from his life and not from scripture as much as I should. He just seems like everyone, like me - and God uses that and I want God to use me.

Something within us writes these in hopes they will make it to the artist. So here goes, Thank you rich for your broken life, one which claimed to not be perfect. Thank you for embracing your faults and not hiding them. It's a reminder how imperfect each of us are and just how much we need the love of God in our lives. You are home with the Father but your life still says the example and points us to God. "So go out and live real good and I promise you'll get beat up real bad. But, in a little while after you're dead, you'll be rotted away anyway. It's not gonna matter if you have a few scars. It will matter if you didn't live." Rich Mullins

Rich Mullins reminds me of Keith Green.. For these men, it wasn't about album sales, big stadiums, and fame.. They were raw and honest, even controversial.. It was about the broken and lost and the heart of God. The industry wanted to make them idols.. The complete opposite of what the God commands in his Word.. What would they think of today's churches, Christian Artists and Worship leaders?.. Because truth be told when we go see these worship bands, we are not really worshipping God, we are idolizing man amd giving THEM the glory.. not God, not really.

I was hoping to see stories of how songs came to be and they barely used any of his songs. People around him seemed fictional. Where was Beaker? Where was Mitch McVicker? Where was Reed Arvin? I was hoping to see a depiction of Reed Arvin and little Allie who was always patiently waiting. Well... Amy Grant looked like Amy Grant, so I guess there's that. But, ultimately, this movie did not "take me there."

Just goes to show us all…never judge a person who walks into your church barefoot. He might just be a prophet. “It always cracks me up when people try to impress God because you don’t have to impress God…He’s already knocked out by you. And Picasso once said something that I really like, he said, “Good taste is the enemy of great art,” and I think that’s really true because good taste has everything to do with being cultured and refined and if art has to do with anything it has to do with being human. When I was a kid I was a typical depressed adolescent…people’d aleways come up to me and say, “cheer up…God loves you!” And I’d say, “Big deal…God loves everybody!” It don’t make me special…it just proves that God ain’t got no taste. And I don’t think that He does. And thank God. Because I think that God takes the messiness and the ugliness in our lives and He makes the most beautiful art in the world out of it. And if you were half as cultured and refined as most Christians wish you were, you would be useless to Christianity. But God is a wild man, and I hope that someday, you have the chance to encounter Him. But if you do, let me warn you because you better hold on for dear life…or let go for dear life…maybe that’s better.” Rich Mullins, Ragamuffin (movie)

I totally love his laugh near the beginning about eating the chocolate. And his take on Jesus playing with children is priceless. Of course, Jesus played with children! Although the Bible doesn't implicitly tell us that, there is a lot of logic in believing it. The fact that Rich would play in the mud with the kids at camp reveals his own joy of doing it.

7:40 The good bit begins.

Its interesting to me that God took both Keith Green and Rich to heaven early in their life. They both were amazing song writers that glorified God. I've always wondered what Keith and Rich would think of America today. It has changed so much since the 80s and 90s.

For all the political commentators here...I believe Rich Mullins, If he were to be a voter, would pray, and ask God for wisdom in voting in the best person for the job that fits today. He would probably consider their views, and persuasions. He would probably not vote party line, talk negative about the opposing candidates... He, like all of us was a sinner. He struggled like the rest of us with his own sins. He clearly loved the LORD. I believe he would probably ask each of those on this thread, to consider what they wrote, before they wrote it, then say something like "Keep it clean" or, "Be nice to each other", maybe he would look back and if he could pass a message from heaven, quote John 13: 33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

It was life and no one's fault. The Lord has already seen their ends and in their last moments, their souls were absent from their bodies to be present with Him. God would never WILL for His servants to die so young and in such a way. But they did. Their work here is done and those who loved them will continue the work for them.

Why? Bad decisions by both of them. I love both those guys, but they chose poorly at the end. Rich wanted to drive between shows even though he was exhausted. Keith overloaded his airplane. Smart people can do stupid things. But, the rest of us pay the price by having to endure their absence. 😢

I’m a singer and no matter how much I try, I cannot seem to get down “if I stand” He switches from soprano to alto so effortlessly, as a female. That one is hard one for me. I’ll just keep practicing. I had the same issue with an Alanis Morrisette song. I think it’s harder to do when dealing with male vocals when you’re a female.

"It's not about what you do. It's about who you are." RM Me thinks Rich may have been a Closet Calvinist. 😅 ~ A wonderful interpretation of "You must be Born Again" starting right around 34:07 (I think). 🤓 I wonder if Jesus actually even said "Born Again" at all! According to some great scholars, that phrase in Greek can is also translated, "You must be Born From Above". In fact it is a time or two in scripture! That makes a lot more sense to me. We must be Born in the Flesh and Born of GOD! Nico seems to have taken the alternative interpretation, which Jesus then picks up to use as a picture lesson. Something he did masterfully. 🙏🏼

It is a shame because I love both you and Derek Webb's music and Caedmon's Call is my favorite Christian band to date even higher than the first concert I ever attended DC-TALK the Freak Show in Fredericksburg VG of course now i love better bands like my favorite Phish and DMB and other great Jazz that far surpasses Toby Mac and anything Christian Contemporary has to offer but LYRICALLY speaking CC was great and Derek loved YOU Rich so much that he called YOU the songs that made HIM as an artist but that tells me you both are unbelievers and if i have to articulate why just read my former post because Jesus can say something ONCE like Born again and mean it as if he said it 100 x 1 x in the WORD is fucking ENOUGH period This word has nothing for me and this world has every fucking thing all that Justin could want but nothing that i need And I need to be BORN AGAIN TO SEE THAT SHIT !!!!! That belief is supernatural that kind of faith is NOT TULIP but it is fucking Supernatural If you rich and Derek are secretly still closet Augustine LIARS so be it but I hate Calvin and his lies so i love the verse that says I must be reborn and if you think it cannot possibly mean anything real or truthful simply because Jesus only said it once and your parents highlighted and underlined it in YELLOW that is disturbing as fuck to me because it shows how cults like TULIP Jehovah's Witness 7th Day Adventists Mormons and the biggest in terms of money in America the Church of Scientology which is not even a church in terms of the definition of Webster but David Miscaviage was a real scum of a lawyer vulture and greedy whore that loves manipulation and getting rid of his wife by murder and throwing away the key and he is according to his father and myself the epitome of LILLIAN and RUTHLESS Business practices only in love w money and his own cock he murdered his own wife think about that shit and Katie Holmes the woman Tom jumped up and down on Oprah's couch for now divorced her gee i wonder why that shit happened could it be a cult CALLED Scientology or in the case of Derek Webb and Rich Mullins TULIP Augustine and Calvin Determinism cult that says Jesus is secretly in cahoots w the devil and evil is really just a made up construct what a load of garbage

I think I found them all (You Tube was jumbling orders until I turned off "Top" for comments.) You seem passionate about scripture (a trait shared with Rich)... But it feels like passion drowned in the seasoning of anger, betrayal, hatred, and vitriol so much that the two are hard to separate and identify. I think I've been feeling some of the anger and betrayal myself recently and I've had a very hard time keeping perspective. CCM artists and wonderful book authors "deconstructing" their faith and calling evil good and good. As much as I've learned not to I still struggle with putting people on pedestals. I built them high... So when they fall... And it's not enough to just step back, they need to "deconstruct" their faith, and by implication, the faith of whomever trusted them. Sorry. Babbling. Just want to understand where you're coming from.

As someone who loves scripture, perhaps you can listen to this passage “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭29‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Not sure if any hearers are edified by your posts here.
