Oliver was at his lowest, fell to his knees and asked God for help. God used Oliver’s soul to touch every working and struggling human. This is the average Citizens, worldwide, soul song. God Bless.

You know the way this world is. And yes, I am a strong Christian. I'm a working man. I am 62 years old. My knees are worn out. I work in the collision industry. @@philhowell6779 Reminds me of Woody Guthrie (Dust Bowl Troubadour and Arlo's father) in the 1930s -- who also became one of Dylan's mentors before succumbing to Huntington's chorea in 1967. This "right-wing anthem" links directly back to left-wing folk music from the mid-20th century, starting in the Great Depression, songs of the poor and dispossessed, giving a voice to people who had none. "When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose. You're invisible now..."
This song has hit the entire planet b/c it resonates with ALL working people who are watching their world crumble before their eyes through no fault of their own.
I’m consider myself a man’s man. But as I was approaching the middle of this song, my eyes welled up with tears and I’m not even struggling like many people. His delivery is so powerful and moving, one would be a bimbo not to be stirred by it. Indeed, it IS the protest song of our generation. This is art that can galvanize the masses in a revolution.

Thank you also for including the reading from Psalms. I have seen some of Oliver's backstory of depression, alcohol and questioning his life and faith. I also learned of his battle with possible suicidal thoughts and ultimately pleading to God for deliverance and guidance. Thanks so much for this inclusion. Mark
Latest statement by Oliver(Chris) Anthony---It's been difficult as I browse through the 50,000+ messages and emails I've received in the last week. The stories that have been shared paint a brutally honest picture. Suicide, addiction, unemployment, anxiety and depression, hopelessness and the list goes on. Im sitting in such a weird place in my life right now. I never wanted to be a full time musician, much less sit at the top of the iTunes charts. Draven from RadioWv and I filmed these tunes on my land with the hope that it may hit 300k views. I still don't quite believe what has went on since we uploaded that. It's just strange to me. People in the music industry give me blank stares when I brush off 8 million dollar offers. I don't want 6 tour buses, 15 tractor trailers and a jet. I don't want to play stadium shows, I don't want to be in the spotlight. I wrote the music I wrote because I was suffering with mental health and depression. These songs have connected with millions of people on such a deep level because they're being sung by someone feeling the words in the very moment they were being sung. No editing, no agent, no bullshit. Just some idiot and his guitar. The style of music that we should have never gotten away from in the first place. So that being said, I have never taken the time to tell you who I actually am. Here's a formal introduction: My legal name is Christopher Anthony Lunsford. My grandfather was Oliver Anthony, and "Oliver Anthony Music" is a dedication not only to him, but 1930's Appalachia where he was born and raised. Dirt floors, seven kids, hard times. At this point, I'll gladly go by Oliver because everyone knows me as such. But my friends and family still call me Chris. You can decide for yourself, either is fine. In 2010, I dropped out of high school at age 17. I have a GED from Spruce Pine, NC. I worked multiple plant jobs in Western NC, my last being at the paper mill in McDowell county. I worked 3rd shift, 6 days a week for $14.50 an hour in a living hell. In 2013, I had a bad fall at work and fractured my skull. It forced me to move back home to Virginia. Due to complications from the injury, it took me 6 months or so before I could work again. From 2014 until just a few days ago, I've worked outside sales in the industrial manufacturing world. My job has taken me all over Virginia and into the Carolinas, getting to know tens of thousands of other blue collar workers on job sites and in factories. Ive spent all day, everyday, for the last 10 years hearing the same story. People are SO damn tired of being neglected, divided and manipulated. In 2019, I paid $97,500 for the property and still owe about $60,000 on it. I am living in a 27' camper with a tarp on the roof that I got off of craigslist for $750. There's nothing special about me. I'm not a good musician, I'm not a very good person. I've spent the last 5 years struggling with mental health and using alcohol to drown it. I am sad to see the world in the state it's in, with everyone fighting with each other. I have spent many nights feeling hopeless, that the greatest country on Earth is quickly fading away. That being said, I HATE the way the Internet has divided all of us. The Internet is a parasite, that infects the minds of humans and has their way with them. Hours wasted, goals forgotten, loved ones sitting in houses with each other distracted all day by technology made by the hands of other poor souls in sweat shops in a foreign land. When is enough, enough? When are we going to fight for what is right again? MILLIONS have died protecting the liberties we have. Freedom of speech is such a precious gift. Never in world history has the world had the freedom it currently does. Don't let them take it away from you. Just like those once wandering in the desert, we have lost our way from God and have let false idols distract us and divide us. It's a damn shame.

Thank you for your reaction and your insightful commentary. I had not seen the video of Oliver reading scripture, and I am glad you included it in your reaction. The fact that this song got over 19M views since its debut a little over a week ago tells you that the message transcends age, color/race/ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, and even nationality, and resonates with ordinary working folk the world over. This should be mandatory listening for everyone in government, whether elected, appointed, or just employed. Even though "the rich men north of Richmond" is a reference to politicians and “power players” in Washington DC., and probably to the financiers on Wall Street, it equally applies to politicians and the “elites” anywhere. The fact that the usual suspects are already calling this the new “right-wing anthem,” means the song has struck a nerve and is right on target. "I wish politicians would look out for miners and not just minors on an island (Eppstein Island) somewhere" is certainly an indictment of the elites who seem to get away with their crimes too often. Not wanting your taxes, which fund food stamps to be used by recipients to buy junk food (fudge rounds) does not imply that one is against food assistance programs for the truly needy; it just means that benefits should be restricted to essential, and relatively nutritious food items. I hope this anthem will wake up more people and get us ordinary folks to unite and take a stand before it's too late. May God bless you and yours.

Thank you for this review. I worry that some Christians are too hard on their brothers and sisters. Not everyone comes from a perfect background. Some people have more battles to fight than others. Gods people come in different packages and our mission should be to be a help to our brothers. Not to accuse so much. We should pray for each other if we have concerns and not be so quick to cast people aside. It's really heartbreaking to see Christians be viscous to other believers. (So glad you included the clip of his scripture reading at the end of the video. So important in this day for our culturral examples to exhibit actual ethics and moral courage and humility. God bless you and God bless Christopher Anthony Lunsford and i pray God to have mercy on our once great nation.

Stop growing weed. It’s poisoning the minds of our nation. God will not bless that. I know it sounds harsh, but deep down you know it’s true. Take up and carry your cross daily. Ask for forgiveness and give forgiveness. Pray unceasingly. This life is not yours. It belongs to Christ.
The biggest hit in 20 years and not a peep from the music industry or media 😂

What do you expect ..I can't even listen to the new music anymore ..all they talk about is booty clapping butt smacking hoes.. swinging on poles and robbing people..then you get a song that makes sense..and the media gets mad and the radio won't play it...something weird is going on

That says it all.. right there
Ive been watching a lot of reaction videos of Oliver Anthony. It's a song for all of us no matter what race.
This song brings tears to the eyes of everyone who hears it.

Did me thank you for him Jesus.
We spend the majority of our lives working for the rich to feed and house our families. Every hard working Family knows this on the Daily. Many times each one of us thinks these things in his song. He put it all in one song. Of course the bulk of the country loved it. It's addressed to the world of hard workers! Mr. Wilson's analogy of the song is very spot on too. God Bless one and all.
I've had Pastor Wilson as a guest on my channel, and I too made a reaction video to both the song and the prayer. Iron sharpens iron.
Brasileiro aqui: gostei muito dessa análise e me emocionei com o Oliver Anthony lendo o Salmo 37.
Thank you for this… love the way you explained it!! Perfect! I’m not religious but when I heard him read that psalm I felt it resonate with me. He speaks truth!
You hit the nail in the head. That’s the message. God bless and God bless whoever reads this message
Brother Doug Reacts! Day officially made sir

I couldn't agree more! I was just saying to my wife " I can't wait for Doug Wilson to do a reaction video " . Then literally 30 minutes later, there it was lol
Finally! A song that puts into words the feelings that normal, good, hard working Americans can relate to.
God Bless Chris on his journey forward !! This song connects to so many individuals from all walks of life. We need to use him and his music to wake up some folks and get them off the bench and back into the fight for the future of this great nation.....
Well said, Rev. Wilson. Loved the fact that you included his talk about Psalm 27. I pray that this song ignites a fire within the populace of the USA to understand what is happening in today's world. May this be the new "Uncle Tom's Cabin".
Never stop reading the word Oliver.
I couldn't be more proud of this guy. Thanks for doing this video Doug Wilson
God bless this man reading a Psalm to the crowd.
Never addressed the issue to his bar about the evil people out there who are part of the human trafficking ring. We’re in the middle of a religious war right now…& we have to protect the children
Oliver is a national treasure.

And to the whole world.
Thank you Oliver for speaking for us people and getting world wide attention and so glad this truthful song was not censored for once!!!! Keep telling the truth Oliver in your songs
His singing voice is off-the-charts powerful. He could do a rendition of "99 bottles of Beer on the Wall" and drive people to tears.
When something like this blows up over night it just shows how hungry the world is for authenticity.
Spot on Doug
The best translation for "dung" used by Paul in his letter to the Philippians is "shit."
Plain honest truth told in a simple beautiful way. Heard & felt around world. This song speak to everyone. The Few fear it but the Many embrace it. This is the power of art.
He's not an established artist. Just a factory working man, with his guitar and dogs, on his land with his $750 craigslist camper making music for the people, not the industry. He's as real as it comes.
As a fellow Christian I think I’ll take this one. To all offended by the use of the word “bullshit” in this song: I’ll say a prayer for you. I’ll also remind you that we have free speech in this country. That said I’m certain many persons have said things that others found offensive WHILE SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER. Maybe these Christians even know someone like that. All that said, GET OUT OF HIS WAY. He’s an adult in the actual sense of the word. You can go act like a child somewhere else. He, and others like him. Have a country to save.

I mean I agree but those who disagree would probably cite that “free speech in this country”is not citing scripture. at which point they will then cite ephesians.
His reading of the Psalm was passionate...the wicked and high minded WILL fall and God will judge!👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏
I have maintained for the past few years that we will not rescue our Nation until we return to our Judeo-Christian roots!!!!!!
I've probably listen to this 100 times. I begin to believe it's more than just a song. It's a PRAYER.
We all understood that when you said “Oh, good grief” and the end of that reaction what you really meant was, “That’s bullshit.” 😂 Great review sir.

Im thinking Charlie Brown
I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day Overtime hours for bullshit pay So I can sit out here and waste my life away Drag back home and drown my troubles away [Pre-Chorus] It's a damn shame what the world's gotten to For people like me and people like you Wish I could just wake up and it not be true But it is, oh, it is [Chorus] Livin' in the new world With an old soul These rich men north of Richmond Lord knows they all just wanna have total control Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do And they don't think you know, but I know that you do 'Cause your dollar ain't shit and it's taxed to no end 'Cause of rich men north of Richmond [Verse 2] I wish politicians would look out for miners And not just minors on an island somewhere Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat And the obese milkin' welfare [Verse 3] Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds Young men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground 'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them down [Pre-Chorus] Lord, it's a damn shame what the world's gotten to For people like me and people like you Wish I could just wake up and it not be true But it is, oh, it is [Chorus] Livin' in the new world With an old soul These rich men north of Richmond Lord knows they all just wanna have total control Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do And they don't think you know, but I know that you do 'Cause your dollar ain't shit and it's taxed to no end 'Cause of rich men north of Richmond [Outro] I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day Overtime hours for bullshit pay
28 years ago in the mountains of North Carolina one Sunday in May when I went to the small Baptist church near my college. I heard the preacher give a great message of salvation and spreading the gospel. I honestly cant recite the message verbatim but his final words are burned in my mind... "there are millions of people who are bound for hell...today most people who consider themselves Christians don't give a damn about them. The harsh reality is some of you are likely more concerned with the fact I said the word "damn" from the pulpit than you are with those folks who are lost and bound for hell." I don't condone profanity...but I try not to let it get in the way of truth anymore.
This could be a good anthem for the fire victims of Lahaina HI. God bless their souls
If Jeff Durbin can utter that word, why can’t anyone ?

If the Apostle Paul can utter that word, why can't anyone?
God will use sinners to spread his gospel and also the devil will use good people to spew his lies.. Great song great message!!! Love it
I'm sure someone else has pointed it out by now, but north of Richmond is DC. He's referring to the federal government.
Good word. And the man was tearing up at the word of God. Beautiful. God, Lord Jesus Christ, let it be so. Have mercy and bring justice on this nation.
