Four plays changed Detroit’s season…the missed INT that Aiyuk caught, the Gibbs fumble and the two huge drops by Reynolds. Those four plays completely changed the momentum of the game. What showed up in the second half was Detroit’s youth. SF is a very good team and the Lions and their fans should be proud. Sometimes you just need someone to make a play.

This is hilarious. All these "experts" are pissed at Campbell for doing exactly what he's been doing all year! The Lions played like they always have. The defense has to make a big stop. I don't regret those decisions if I'm Campbell. The way he coaches is the reason they were even there.

Campbell was going for the kill shot on that first fourth down. If Reynolds catches that ball and they go down and score a touchdown, they’re up 31-10 and the game is over. It’s really was three lucky plays that bailed the 49ers out. The drop, the catch off the face mask, and the fumble. The Lions outplayed the 49ers, but the 9’ers got lucky.

His ego got the best of him. Dan gambled way too many times and it caught up to him. I don’t think they’ll ever make it back to the NFC championship, too many up and coming teams, plus we all said that about the Eagles last year too.

Been waiting for this since the game ended.

When you play the Bears during the season, of course it look like your team can always get the momentum back. You got to kick fields goals on 4th downs against good teams. Points matter.

Lions had it. They freakin had the game and just took their foot off the gas. Credit the 49ers for making adjustments but those decisions not to kick the FG were HUGE. He'll learn from this. Shannahan has learned from many tough losses. Lions should feel proud of the season they had.

As a lifelong Niner fan, I honestly would not have been super bummed if Detroit had won (I kind of expect Kyle to choke...). I could root for them against KC.

It all turned on that 4th and short dropped pass. After that is was all downhill. The 2nd huge drop, the interception that hits off the DB's face fir 1st and goal 49ers, misplayed long TD catch that should have been....yeah they totally blew it and gave it away every chance they got starting with that 4th down drop.

I don't think so. Campbell keeps doing the same thing over and over again. There’s a time to be aggressive and there is a time to score whatever points you can. Until Campbell learns that, the Lions are never gonna win anything significant.

You didn't lose cuz of Goff, I don't think. The 9ers woke up and our defense decided to come to work, ....and some errors were made but Goff didn't seem like an issue. He drove down that last TD you all made. He got u close.

Take the points....twice. Early 3rd quarter after SF scored 3...that was bigger mistake IMO

No Dan Campbell slander will be tolerate. He's the soul reason we made it this far.

Lions fan here. Dan going for it is how they got there. I said they should kick, because SF had just scored a FG so you wanna at least keep the margin, but 3 consecutive errors is what did them in: 1. When they went for it on 4th down, Reynolds didn't make the catch. That guy has been clutch all year and like 90% of his catches were for 1st downs, but still he should have caught it. 2. The bizarre 51 yard catch off the defender's face. Vildor should have had the INT but instead it set up SF for a TD. 3. Gibbs fumbling the ball to set up the tying TD. Gibbs has been great especially at protecting the ball, but that whole play seemed botched from jump. Any one of those 3 doesn't happen, The Lions likely win. Not many predicted them to win and they scored 31, or the road, and lost by 3. Great season, but yeah, disappointing way to lose even if the outcome (SF winning) was mostly expected.

Can we please not have the argument of who won them the game? They don’t win without Purdys amazing second half, Bosa’s 2 sacks and TFL’s, Warners amazing game, Aiyuks incredible catch, and of course CMC. The team willed that comeback. All of them deserve credit.

They don’t win if lions catch the balls

Of all of the teams I thought had the cajones to make a big comeback, I would not have suggested the Shanahan and Purdy 49ers. Of all the teams who could go up 24-7 on the 49ers and blow it, I would not have expected the Dan Campbell Lions.

Im a 9ers fan but somehow the NFL is feeling more like a carefully choreographed play where teams and players will do Uncharacteristic things and ultimately the darling (or chosen) teams ultimately still come out on top. I dunno. Maybe im just jaded but the last several seasons it feels like things are planned more and more.

Early in the season when Campbell started his obsession with fourth down I knew it would cost them dearly. You just can not leave points on the field

Purdy beating Mahomes in the SB would be a direct hit on the philosophy of the draft system. Its driven by politics and it doesn't work the way they say.

The Clutch gene is something only a few QBs have. Purdy has it..seen it now for 2 weeks. And his full arsenal was brought out too. He gashed those dudes on the ground man. Just wow. That kid is special

I have NO PROBLEM with Dan Campbells decisions. Its what has worked well both in the past, and statistically. You can't leave anything on the table at this point of the post season. Nice year lions, be proud. (a Bills fan)

Yup - they guy who has never been there behaved like a guy who has never been there. Horrific decisions on those two FG freebies. He elects to kick, and the Lions win this game 37-34. Hindsight is always 20/20, but - so should coaching decisions be in key games. Regular season - OK - put the trust in your team. NFC Championship Game - take the FREE buffet!

Heartbreaker for us Lions fans. A couple bad decisions by Campbell and drops by Reynolds shifted the momentum drastically. That being said, the 49ers still had to execute to make comeback and they did exactly that. Now do the rest of the country a favor and beat the Chiefs. If we have to see Taylor Swift after every other play, I want to see her pouting.

You know there's a meme pic of looking at Montana without glasses, then putting them on and it's Purdy? Well watching Purdy run was hauntingly similar to Steve Young, reckless, unsuspecting speed and legs, and he goes head first which is terrifying as we know Steve's career was cut just a bit short due to them bell rings. So he looks like Montana in the pocket, and Young when running... And he took those hits, no fear, running, and in the pocket. Give me that shoutout Rich.. Purdy giving those flashes of Steve Young!
