    This gun was my 10mm gateway drug! It was so amazing with the 10mm at a great price I just had to delve deeper into the world of 1911' and 10mm, later adding a TRP and then a custom bobtail commander all in 10mm. I would hands down recommend this to anyone interrsted in the platform and cartridge.

    Just a note, RIA also produces the Rock Ultra 10mm in a high-capacity version. It has a sixteen round double stack magazine and of course, is just that much more fun.

    How much wider does the grip feel? I wear size large gloves. My G17 feels large, I prefer the G43x. I've shot single stack 1911's and love them. Never shot a double stack 1911.

    I've the 17 , and a double stack ria 22tcm 9mm combo, same grip size as the 10mm , I'm saving back for the double stack 10mm with the 6 inch barrel, maybe the 7 inch barrel. I'm more comfortable with the oldschool 1911 45 government model, but I can handle the double stack in both , These days, might need the double stack more than, oldschool look . Lot of fools getting shot breaking in on homeowners at home . 3to 4 bad guys at once , and a driver in a car in the driveway.

    I have the same RIA 1911 mod 51914,Awesome gun👍. I loved working on this gun from out of the box to make it my own. 1. Filed and sanded all the sharp and pointed edges in and around the mag well entrance for easy placement of the magazines. 2. Filed and sanded the breach face area b/c of scarring of the brass. 3. Adjusted the trigger bow and sanded the track for smoother movement. 4. Removed the parkerized finish from the bull barrel and the mag well,sanded and highly polished both for the bright shine. 5. Replace the stock hammer and hammer strut,trigger,sear and the firing pin stop with all Stainless Steel Combat Wilson Parts. A. After shooting at the range or else where,I remove and clean the carbon from the gun with "mobil 1- ATF". The smell is bad but it IS the best thing out there for cleaning. B. To lube the gun inside and out,I use "Mobil 1 - motor oil".After lubing for the parkerized surface to soak,I wipe off the access with a micro fiber rag, I then use "Lucas red tacky" to lubricate the slide that reduces the ware of the metal and helps protect the surface of the metal. I have done this the same way for decades,my guns continue to look great and keeps on ticking...👍😎🇺🇸. I also have a Sig P320 40 cal.,I clean and lubricate it the same way.

Unbelievably the second guns FTF and the grips loosened up inside 100 rounds. This gun is most effective when dropped in a sock and swung like a club.

    Sweet gun and the 9 mm version is on my list. One thing though..as you fire you release your grip with each shot which then forces some to have to refocus on the front sight and target. I’m unsure if you’re aware you’re even doing this but a consistent and steady grip is requires for maximum accuracy along with sight picture and breath control. Great videos keep them coming

    I have three Rock Island 1911s from the Ultra FS series, in 9 mm, .45 Auto and 10 mm. None are the TAC models, but share all the same features without the accessory rail. Only the 10 mm models have the bull barrel. I started off with the 10 mm model, then decided that my life would not be complete without the other two. All are enjoyable to shoot and have been trouble-free.

  • @jackhall290

    @jackhall290

    Жыл бұрын

    Out of curiosity why did you buy three frames when you could just swap barrels/slide onto the same frame? I know the 9mm and 10mm mags interchange in the frame, although for functionality it's better to go from the 10 to the 9 or you'll get light primer strikes. I haven't tested the .45 mags in my 10 to be fair but I think they're the same minus feed lips Edit: I totally didn't realize till just yet that you didn't specify if it was doublestack. Which mine is. Idk about the standard platform mags

  • @jaydee5156

    @jaydee5156

    Жыл бұрын

    @@jackhall290 That's not the way I work at all. I don't swap parts or use conversion barrels for the sake of additional calibers or options. I just buy another gun. I may upgrade grips sometimes, but in the case of the Ultra FS models, I liked the G10 grips so I kept them. Sorry Jack, I almost forgot to address the frame and magazine question. The 9mm and 10mm models feature a ramped barrel, while the ramp for the .45 is machined into the frame. In addition, the frame-mounted ejectors are tuned slightly different due to the different cartridge diameters; 9, 10 and 11.4mm, so frames aren't universal. Now magazines are a different story. I have 1911s in .22, 9mm, 10mm, .45. As far as "fit" is concerned, one magazine will fit all, but that doesn't mean they're universal. Not only are cartridge diameters different, so are cartridge lengths. 10mm "can" work in a .45 magazine, depending on feed lips, but not the other way around. "Can" and "should" are also not universal.

    ANY 1911 break in: 1. Break down, clean and lube pistol with oil (not grease). Reassemble. You want the parts to wear into each other. Make sure to get into the rails well with q-tips 2. Grip pistol normally, hand across top, cycle by hand 200 times (magazine NOT in gun) 3. Breakdown, clean, and lube with oil. Get into the rails well with q-tips. You'll probably notice alot of black on qtips, even with stainless guns . Microscopic wear /parts mating. 4. Hand cycle for another 200-300 times. 5. Breakdown, clean well , and lube. 6. Should feel a lot smoother. Take to range.

    10mm fanboy here. 1911 fanboy.I have a SA TRP 10mm, Ruger SR1911 10mm, Glock 20, and my favorite concealed carry is a G29 with Xgrips...10mm. Several other 1911's in .45, .40, 9mm, and 38 Super. However...given the size of the 1911 10mm platform, it is a big downside to me that capacity is fairly low. I got a Tanfoglio Witness Match 10mm, comparable size and weight...14+1. I carry the Witness Match in the woods more than any other 10mm. Also carry it concealed here in winter, since we are parka weather 4 months a year. I kept a couple 10mm 1911's, including the first 10mm 1911 RIA released, but given the much higher capacity in similar size platforms, alas! Traded most of the 10mm 1911's to fund better guns.

    KS I have shot numerous RIA 1911 in .45 acp but never one in 10mm. My last experience with a 10mm steel frame was a S&W from the late 1980's. I used to have a Glock 29 10mm and it was an OK pistol but I will say that 10mm in a 1911 style pistol is definitely a bit more comfortable shooting than the Glock. I have nothing bad to say about RIA they make a well equipped 1911 for a more than reasonable price. Truthfully if you are looking for a 1911 on a budget I feel that they are the best budget friendly 1911 on the market. They do not skimp on quality or functionality to be able to offer an affordable firearm. I have definitely shot much worse brands of budget friendly 1911's like a Star or 1970's Llama they were so unreliable it wasn't funny. The thing is that manufacturing technologies have advanced so much and the 1911 design has always been very popular so it goes without saying that even lower tier companies are making very reliable offerings these days. The days of choices being limited to Springfield, Colt, or Browning are long gone. The funny thing is that almost every large pistol manufacturer makes a 1911 anymore and there are custom shops that make some really sweet hand fit high end models for those that are discerning collectors. One day I will have every pistol I have ever dreamed of and one of these RIA 10mm 1911's in 4.25" will definitely be on the list of must haves as 10mm is probably one of the best rounds for getting the blood pumping it is a fast hard hitting slug that is extremely accurate what is not to love?

    One role for which a 10mm Auto is ideally suited is as a woods carry gun. An auto, like a 1911 or Glock, in 10mm, when properly loaded, can provide enough power for bear and cougar, while providing additional capacity for the true apex wood's predator, man. They are also much easier to put a light on that a large caliber revolver. A light is important, because many predators are nocturnal. I love the 10mm Auto as a do it all cartridge. My Glock 20 has been my constant companion for a decade and a half now, my shadow, trusted implicitly. I like Underwood's 200 gr XTP load for all around carry, though I will go with a 200 gr hardcast some times in grizzly country. I've been looking at these RIA for a while now, just beautiful guns with loads of features at 1/3 the price of many competing 10mm 1911s.

    Armscors ammo has been a flop for me when working with 357....seem to have hard primers but ive sometimes had half boxes not fire on performance center revolvers. Yes... I've adjusted the hammer spring to be heavy as possible and it's not a problem with just one revolver....ill use them for other ammo but not 357

    Dang... I know it's been out a long time, but I'm just getting in on 10mm... Great gun for mountain tracking, also considering their 2011 version at 16+1 cap...hard to beat that package, but the weight could be a factor...

    A nice pistol. I'm not sure I'd want to have to go through all that to clean it, but that seems to be a 1911 thing. I'd also have to have the lower righthand portion of my rib-cage removed to carry it w/o printing - a minor concession to be sure. 😁

    Another Great Review The Tac Ultra has the same look as the Great Springfield Armory TRP Operator with the full length dust cover/rail The TRPs are accurate but expensive $1700. TRP has the same paper clip take down. For Series 70 style guns you can make them more drop resistant with a titanium firing pin and Wolff heavier pound firing pin spring. BTW Double Tap makes awesome 10 mm ammo for every purpose.
